La lanterna della #cupola fu realizzata dopo la morte di #Brunelleschi, seguendo il progetto del maestro. È una torre marmorea alta 21 m., che col proprio peso controbilancia le forze di spinta. Sulla sommità svetta la “palla d’oro” di #Verrocchio, che la mise in opera nel 1471.
