the queen trilogy by ekj is like aggressively fine and i have many bones to pick but i think one of the biggest issues i have with it is that they had the absolutely golden opportunity to really expand on cordé and versé and make their deaths more impactful + shed light on padmé’s subsequent grief and then they just. did not do that

Cordé ~ Senator Padme Amidala's decoy

Cordé, formerly known as Cordyn, was a handmaiden who served Senator Padmé Amidala in the days leading up to the Clone Wars. She was acting as a decoy when she was killed in an attempt on Amidala's life by Clawdite bounty hunter Zam Wesell. On the painting, she is seen just before boarding the shuttle, which would take her, Amidala and other handmaiden Versé to Coruscant (who both are presented on the left). We can also see the royal crest on the wall on the right.

Her resemblance to the senator would make her an excellent decoy. Cordé was also able to perfect Amidala's voice to the point that even a voice identifier couldn't tell the difference.

The painter did not include there any weapon, it was becasue she lacked combat ability, especially with a blaster, due to poor hand-eye coordination. This excluded her as potential handmaiden, when Amidala was Queen, but was not so vital for being a decoy of senator.

On the painting, we can also see pins in Naboo style, one in handmaiden's hair and others on the chair. Cordé had her sister design and make pins that could be used within the hairstyles for the senator that could double as weapons or tools, yet be small enough to pass most security scans. Cordé also designed a few pins. Dormé, a fellow handmaiden, was recorded to say that Cordé's whole family was very talented.

Was anybody going to tell me that at least three of Queen Amidala's five handmaidens are canonically sapphic, or is that something I just had to learn, on my own?

Sabé was in love with her, and Saché and Yané got married.

Additionally, per Queen's Trilogy author EK Johnston, Versé from AotC was intended to be trans, but she opted not to mention it, since she didn't want her being trans to be reduced to a quick mention, and she was doomed to die in AotC, anyway.

As far as she's concerned, Versé is still trans (also, Sabé and Tonra (a Naboo soldier from TPM) are bi and/or pan):

Versé is trans (I cannot stress enough how little credit I deserve for that as it isn't actually "in canon"), and Tonra is bi/pan, same as Sabé. I do not know which variety of queer Yané and Saché are, but I don't mind if they end up in the lesbian column. :)

This handmaiden training is no laughing matter. I suppose it can’t be, as we’re the last defense between Amidala and death. If I’ve learned nothing else this week, it’s that my life is expendable and hers is not. I haven’t had the time to sit down and think about that, but it occurs to me now that this principle is a bit hard to swallow. If it came right down to it, I wonder if I really would sacrifice myself for this woman I’ve still not met, but know so much about. Who is she to demand my loyalty this way…to ask for my life?

And what am I, Versé Tylish, to her? Does she know how I was born two months too early, sickly and small, and that my mother wept when I was at last placed in her arms? Or how I love to read? And if I were to die, could this Senator stand before my mother, who suffered three more miscarriages before finally accepting I was to be her only child, her best beloved? Could she stand there, drawing breath and gloriously alive, and thank them for my service, thank them for my sacrifice? ...
