It’s Veruka! She’s an old friend or as she puts it “rival” of Serenity. Here’s a bit about her.
She’s a Lophiiren. Basically a siren/ angler fish alien.
She is about 11′7 feet from head to tail. She’s about 7"7 feet when she’s “standing” on land.
She‘s quick-tempered, sassy, a bit defensive, has a bravado, she be acts and talks however she wants, and is very confident in herself.
She wasn’t initially amphibious, but with Piko’s help, she becomes amphibious.
She’s like a weird aunt to Piko.
She had a crush on Serenity, but always got defensive when asked about it.
Now I’ll talk about how she met Serenity and later Piko.
Serenity met Veruka out of pure luck. Serenity got a boat so she could explore the seas and maybe look for a safe haven for fellow ‘Sonians. On the first day out at sea, her boat bumped Veruka in the head. That immediately pissed her off and she jumped onto Serenity’s boat to fight. Serenity couldn’t even apologize because Veruka wanted to square up. They duked it out and then Veruka left after Serenity finally got to apologize.
They kept meeting up several times throughout the next few years. Eventually they were both looking for this gem that would apparently grant wishes. Unfortunately for her, Serenity got a hold of it first. She tried fighting her for it, but to no avail. Eventually, she sorta gave up trying to steal the gem from Serenity and would spout an empty threat about killing her and taking it.
Years passed and Serenity was pregnant. She visited her one last time during her pregnancy telling her she’d be away for a while, but would bring her children to visit Veruka once they hatched. Veruka never saw her after that.
Many years passed and Piko found out about Serenity’s boat. With his dad’s permission, he sets sail with it. Veruka seeing and smelling something familiar goes to square up. Seeing Piko confuses and disappoints her. Basically a “You’re not Serenity” moment. When she says that, he’s a bit surprised. He asks her if she knew Serenity since she’s his mom, and she’s like yes. So they talk for a bit and he finds out about how they knew each other. This is also when she finds out that Serenity’s been dead for years, which catches her off guard.
Piko also learns that she wanted Serenity’s necklace, which is now his, so he offers it to her. She didn’t want to take it, considering she basically gave it to him on her deathbed. He was curious as to why she wanted it, and it was to trade it to a sea witch so she could leave the ocean, basically becoming amphibious. Piko decides to help her out and see if this witch is legit, and in return Veruka would tell him about his mom and her adventures.
When they finally reach the witch, it turns out she’s a sham. Veruka’s at a loss for what to do, since she really wants to leave the ocean. She’s starting to lose hope, when suddenly Piko remembers learning about something on his trips. On some other planets, they make artificial organs or use medication to make certain aquatic species amphibious. To do that, Piko would need to bring Veruka closer to where he can actually leave the planet.
So he carries her home with telekinesis in a water bubble. She has to bunk in the tub as it’s the only place with water. Even then she’s still too big for it, but it’ll have to do. His friends and dad were shocked and scared to suddenly see her there since he brought her without warning. Once Piko explained the situation, they were quick to accept her (even if it was begrudgingly). Eventually things worked out and she got the ability to live amphibiously.
Now she’s like a weird aunt to Piko who brings him cool and occasionally dangerous souvenirs. His dad isn’t keen on his interactions with her, but Piko, much like his mom, is a free-wheeler.
