The songs from HS1 serviced a very particular fantasy - they told women that they were successfully navigating the impossible demands femininity was put on them. The women Harry is singing to in HS1 is a flower and a feast, is a good girl and feels good, and is an angel and a devil between the sheets.

Listening to what was left off of HS1 gives me a sense of this very fine tuning of who Harry was going to be. Complicated Freak is too much, Baby Honey is too much like 1D and won't give his audience a sense that they've grown up etc. The songs that were included aren't generic songs about being in love, but they speak to a very specific fantasy that lots of women who have to navigate this shit society have.

I’m not going to make any friends by saying this, but I’m okay with that. It’s not cool to exploit an abuse victim’s story for roleplay. It’s not cool to only support one gender when they go through something and completely discredit the other when they go through the same thing. It’s not clever to do the same things as everyone else just because they are doing them. It’s not cool to be in autopilot and not question things, not try to do better. To only go with the flow.
