ao3 version
while the thought of a quiet office party was nice, the phoenix program didn’t work that way. there was suddenly an abundance of alcohol that seemed to appear out of nowhere and in less than half an hour, 75% of the employees were sloshed out fo their minds. you’re pretty sure you saw prism making out with water boy in some poor soul’s cubicle (thankfully not yours).
seeking a little quiet away from the party to not have bass pounding in your ears of some strange remix of ‘last christmas’ by wham and techno music, you made a quick pot of coffee to ward off the sleepiness that alcohol usually gave you.
it was automatic at this point: coffee filter, pour in way too much ground coffee (what can you say, you like it strong), and press start.
standing alone made you realize just how tipsy you were. not quite world spinning, but it does somewhat feel like you're aboard a ship.
the small ding of the abused coffeemaker brings you back to dry land as you sift through a variety of mugs to find your favorite one.
just as you finished adding in the cream and sugar, the door opened and shut just as fast. you looked up and saw victor, smiling up at the bat hybrid who held a red solo cup that you could smell even a few feet apart.
“what the hell is in your drunk?” you asked with a scrunched nose, cupping your coffee close to your face and helped neutralize the smell.
“oh you know, a little of this, a little of that,” he said with a grin. “want some?” he offered, holding the cup towards you.
“i’m good, i’ve got my own,” you smiled and took a sip of your perfectly made coffee. somewhere on the drink table, you had snagged a shooter of coffee liquor, keeping your buzz alive while you tried to wake up a bit more.
victor chugged down the rest of his drink and let out a small burp, tossing the cup into the trash can that was across the room.
“did you hear flambae singing ‘santa baby’ earlier?”
you snorted into your cup and giggled, “i’m pretty sure the whole block heard his off key rendition of proclaiming his sexual relationship with santa. i wish prism would’ve given him her autotune mic.”
“oh believe me, she offered but he refused!” he exclaimed, shaking his head in disapproval with a chuckle.
a warm silence filled the room and you swore you could see a tipsy blush on victor’s cheeks.
right as you were about to break the silence, victor glanced up and you followed his gaze. in front of the cabinets, someone had hung mistletoe from the ceiling.
you would call it another hr violation, but it was after hours so who cares?
warmth creeped up your cheeks and you looked back at victor, who was already staring at your lips.
“it’s tradition to kiss under mistletoe right?” you commented softly, more for yourself than actually needing confirmation.
“yeah, we wouldn’t want to break tradition now would we?” he said with a wicked smile, practically vibrating in his polished loafers.
“no we wouldn’t,” you agreed and slowly closed the space between you two.
placing your hands on his chest as his found your waist, your lips met in an unsure kiss as you got lost in the taste of whiskey and coffee. you leans more into him and wrapped your arms around his neck, deepening the kiss. victor clutched at your shirt and walked you back against the counter. he easily lifted you up onto the slightly sticky surface, standing between your legs. your lips molded against each other as if you were made for each other.
keeping your hands firmly in his fur, you experimentally rolled your hips against the front of his pressed slacks, already feeling him starting to harden against you. victor let out a small moan against your mouth in response and bucked his hips up to your heat.
"fuck you're killing me sweetheart," he groaned and buried his face into your neck as the two of you fell into a clumsy rhythm. you could feel his hot breath and fangs grazing your skin as he pressed desperate kisses into your skin. one of your hands gripped the counter as he pressed his formerly crisp slacks against your inviting sex, a wet spot starting to take shape.
your mouth found his once again and just as you were starting to open the buttons on your uniform, the door swung open.
"hey vic, we're gonna-" malevola started and abruptly stopped as she said both of your dishelved states.
your face heated up and you attempted to brush your hair back to save some semblance of your dignity, but victor remained unfazed.
"be there in a sec, i'm a little busy right now," he said with an all too cocky grin.
"i see that, have fun you two," she teased with a sing song voice as she slipped out of the room, leaving you two alone once again.
he immediately leaned back in to kiss you once again, to which you leaned away and slapped his chest, "really? that was humiliating!"
"what? nah, she's caught me in way worse situations than this," he attempted to reassure you and trailed a few pecks down your jaw.
you huffed and shook your head, his touch once again persuading you to put down your guard.
"Why are you even considered a rescue?" Her harsh words made you flinch as your body slowly felt sluggish. Not only were you tired from the recent match, you were also slowly being drained by the argument that you were currently having with your fellow survivor.
It was quite understandable really. The match was exhausting, especially since your team was up against the Photographer. The constant redoing of the cipher, the constant healing, the constant hiding you had to go through was excruciating. As a rescue, you were tasked to look out for your team, to be there when they were captured.
However, it was quite shameful to admit that you failed to save the one survivor you should have saved in order to avoid this fight that you were in.
That survivor was Emma, who was now laying down in the infirmary in order to recover fully. Emma, who had yet to open her eyes after your match. After she was sent flying back to the manor. So now, here you were, arguing with the overprotective survivor who had her back.
You sighed as you rubbed the temple of your forehead, feeling a headache coming your way from the constant scolding that you were getting from Emily. "Can we talk about this some other time Emily? I really have no energy left to deal with you after that match I had."
You heard her scoff, "What? The match where you failed to save Emma? I can hardly believe that you did anything to warrant your fatigue." You pursed your lips, allowing her to continue on, thinking that she would soon run out of words to say. You knew that Emma was really important to her and it was true that you failed to save her despite being the rescue of the team.
"Emma did everything in that match. She was the one who contained the hunter, the one who decoded, the one who saved and even body blocked Tracy so what right do you have to say that YOU'RE tired."
You could only nod, not finding it in you to retaliate. If you were being honest, you were the one who did everything despite not being too familiar with machines. The only thing that you didn't do was rescue Emma, which was the one thing that set Emily off.
You felt tears build up in your eyes but you refused to let them fall. You refused to let your moment of weakness be shown. You could feel the stare of some of your fellow survivors, making you feel worse. You hated being watched at your most vulnerable.
"What? Why won't you speak? You're making me feel like I'm the bad one here when in fact it's-" A laugh stopped her from continuing that sentence, causing Emily to direct her anger towards its source.
"Is there anything you'd like to tell me Edgar? Please do enlighten me."
"I just find this whole situation really." Edgar stopped his laughter, eyes staring pointedly at Emily, "You're a hypocrite."
"What?"
"You heard me, peasant. I said, you're a hypocrite and you know it. The only reason you're scolding her is because it was Emma who got sent flying but I know that you could care less about the others, you selfish mongrel. And you," You flinched at his tone before hearing him sigh, "Learn to defend yourself at least. With your little pity act, I doubt you'll be able to survive in here. Now please, if you two want to fight, go somewhere else. The sound of your voice irritates me." Without a second thought, you left the other survivors, feet leading you towards the comfort of your room.
The moment you entered, you sat on your bed as your tears fell freely from your eyes. While you did your best to wipe them clean, your tears showed no signs of stopping. Your heart fell heavier than it did before. Edgar was right, you wouldn't be able to survive in here. You sniffled, soon letting your hands fall to your side as tears continuously fell down from your cheeks.
A few minutes later, you heard scratching on your door, causing you to look at it. Slowly, you walked towards it, wiping any excess tears that you have. You opened the door, only to be greeted by a familiar companion.
In front your door was Wick, the postman's closest friend. His tail wagged as he jumped happily, showing you what he had in his mouth. Slowly, you smiled, crouching in order to pat the head of your cute companion.
"Hey there Wick. Do you have something for me?" Wick merely barked, his head seemingly nodding as you giggled, taking the letter from his mouth. You scanned the envelope, searching for the signature of the person who sent you this. When you saw that there was none, you opened the letter, finding a neatly folded paper inside of it. You glanced at Wick as you opened the paper, curious as to who the sender was. When you saw the familiar handwriting, you knew immediately that it was from Wick's owner, the closest friend that you have in this manor.
'My Dearest (Y/n),
Are you okay, my friend? I heard of what happened on the lobby from Mr. Valden. I have to say that whatever Ms. Emily told you today was untrue. I know how much work you put when you're in a match. I may even go as far as say that you're never one to be idle, seeing as you're often on the move. I'm sure that a lot of them would agree if I were to say so. Cheer up my friend, don't be fazed by mere opinions of someone who is enraged because most of the time, they are never true.
Sincerely yours,
Victor Franz
P.S Do you perhaps need a companion? I'm more than willing to listen to your woes, my friend. I'll be awaiting your reply.'
It was a simple letter, one that you were sure was written by the Postman himself. That fact made you smile, the feeling of sadness you had earlier slowly dying down due to it. You glanced at Wick, giving a head pat once more. "Can you wait for me little buddy? I will just write a reply to your friend." Once you heard him bark happily, you chuckled, soon walking towards your table to write.
You sat down, grabbing the materials needed to begin. You thought deeply about what you were going to write, not wanting to seem like it was rushed. When an idea came to mind, you begun writing.
'Dear Victor,
Thank you for sending a letter my way, I deeply appreciate it. It was successful in lifting my spirits up and bringing a smile on my face. About your question, do you mind if you head towards my room? I do not wish to be alone right now and I feel like you'd be perfect in keeping my thoughts at bay. If it is not a bother to you, I would be grateful if you'd accept.
Sincerely,
(Y/n) (L/n)'
Once you were done writing, you sealed you letter inside the envelope before walking towards Wick. You crouched once more, patting his head as you gave him the letter. "I trust that this will be in good hands."
The little dog barked happily, as if telling you that he was dependable. You giggled as you stood up, opening the door for him. "I'll see you later Wick!" Once he was out of your sight, you closed the door and head towards your bed. You decided to wait, already knowing that Victor was a man of his word. Already knowing that he would soon be with you.
Minutes passed by and soon, there was a familiar scratching by the door once more. You rushed towards it, smiling when you saw Victor and Wick in front of you. The man mirrored your smile as soon as he saw you, handing you the small letter he held in his hands. You looked at it curiously, slowly unfolding it as you read its contents.
You shouldn't need to ask for me to be your companion, (Y/n). I would gladly listen to your woes, even if you don't ask me to.
You couldn't help but brighten up at his words, your head shooting up to look into his eyes. You gave him a hug, nuzzling your head into his chest. "Thank you." You whispered, allowing the postman to let out a chuckle, hugging you tightly to somehow give you comfort.
The two of you let go after a few seconds, Victor looking down at you due to your height difference. He then took a pen and a paper from his bag, writing down the words he needed to say, 'Do you feel better?'
You nodded, "I do now that you're here." You stepped to the side, allowing a path for them to enter. "Do you want to head inside?"
Victor nodded as both him and Wick entered your room, immediately heading towards the chair before taking it and placing it near your bed. You smiled as you closed the door behind you, soon sitting on your bed and right in front of Victor. Wick placed himself on your lap the moment you did, the dog thoroughly enjoying the head rubs that you give him. Victor could only look at you apologetically, causing you to merely wave it off. "It's alright. How was your match?"
"It's not really that interesting. With Luca, Mike and Jose on my team, it's safe to say that we've all escaped." He wrote before staring at you, a worried gaze soon directed towards you. "That's enough from me. How about you? I heard it was a rough match."
Your smile slowly fell as you felt the negative emotions from earlier come back. You pursed your lips, not sure whether you wanted to remember the earlier events. You forced out a smile, "I'm okay. Thanks to Emma, we're okay." There was a slight quiver on your voice, making your statement less believable to Victor. He took your hand into his, drawing circles on the back of it comfortingly. He smiled encouragingly at you, as if saying that he was there to listen.
Slowly, you nodded, sighing as you told him what happened in your match. "I tried. I really did but I was too late. I wanted to save Emma from the chair, you know? But she told me that we shouldn't, that Joseph was too strong for us. That we should only focus on decoding and that's what we did." You gripped his hand as you bit your lip to prevent the tears from falling. "I was the one containing Joseph before her, and she was the one who made sure I wouldn't get chaired. We had each other's back during the first half. When Joseph got sick of her destroying the rocket chairs, he decided that she should be the one to fly first. It was all going well until she got hit while vaulting through the window. I wanted to save her but..."
He looked at you curiously, encouraging you to continue what you were saying. "Annie popped the cipher too early. She was so nervous for her first match and this caused her to do so. I get it though. There is no one in this manor who wasn't nervous on their first match but her mistake caused Joseph to activate his detention."
You glanced at him, "I was so scared. I didn't want to be in pain. I didn't want to be chaired so as a coward, I ran." You removed his hold from yours as you hid your tears from him. "I should have saved her. I should have just took her and ran. Oh God, what she never wakes up?" You whispered silently, scared for your fellow survivor's state.
Victor slowly took your hands from your face before you could spiral down. He wrapped his arms around you carefully, rubbing his hands on your back comfortingly. He removed his hold on you, writing the words that he wanted to say but couldn't. "It's not your fault. It never was. You did your best for the team and everyone is okay."
"But what about--" He cut you off by gently placing a finger on your lips.
"Ms. Emma's going to be fine. I saw her earlier before coming here and she wants me to tell you that it's not your fault." You broke into a sob, relief washing over you when you heard that the gardener was okay. Victor wrapped his arms around you once more, rubbing circles on your back as he patiently waited for you to let all the negativity out.
Once you were done, he took a handkerchief from his pocket and handed it to you. You smiled gratefully, wiping your tears with it. "Why do you always have a handkerchief with you?"
Victor smiled before writing, "For you"
You look at him confused but he only smiled mysteriously in response, "Are you feeling better now?"
"I do. Thank you for listening to me and staying by my side. I must look like a wreck right now." He waved his hands frantically in disagreement. He wrote down in a rushed manner before slowly showing you what he wrote, his cheeks slightly reddened. "You never do! I believe that you're always beautiful (Y/n)."
Your cheeks mirrored his as the heat slowly crept up on them. You looked away, hiding your face using the letters he wrote. "Thank you."
"No problem." Victor then stood up, hands rubbing the back of his neck before gently picking up a sleepy Wick from your lap. The said dog slowly woke up, his friend placing him down once he did. He took his letter and wrote, "It's getting quite late (Y/n). I have to go back to my own quarters and rest up. I have another match tomorrow, after all."
You frowned slightly once you finished reading, soon finding yourself staring into his eyes. You stood up, pinky outstretched. "Come back safe?"
Victor grinned, intertwining his pinky with yours and shaking it up and down slightly. You mirrored his grin, "It's a promise, okay? I'll be waiting." He nodded before removing his pinky and picking up his pen and paper. "I promise. I will be seeing you tomorrow."
You followed closely behind as he walked slowly towards the door, hesitant to end your little meeting with him. Once the two of you were outside the room, Victor turned around to meet your eyes. He placed a hand behind your head, his own nearing you before feeling something soft on your forehead. Your eyes widened when you realized what he had done.
Victor Grantz had placed a kiss on your forehead.
You placed a hand on the spot where he kissed you, all the while eyes never leaving his gaze. He merely waved, letting out a cheeky grin before leaving you to your thoughts. Your brain tried to process what had happened, your heart pounding from his sudden action.
"Victor kissed me..." You whispered, eyes staring down on the floor as you absentmindedly returned to your room. Once the door was closed, you slumped down, back leaning on the door as your cheeks reddened. You hid your face behind your hands, feeling a smile creep up on your lips.
While today felt like a roller coaster of emotions, the only thing that you knew for sure was that Victor truly cared about you. Maybe, even more than you thought he did. You hoped that whatever you were feeling was not one sided but rather, something that was mutual. You smiled, standing up as you felt your resolve strengthen.

The bed gently dips as he folds his body into the mattress. You’re almost asleep, the weight of your eyelids multiplying by the minute, but as soon as your body rolls to the side and is ready to fall into his body, sleep recedes.
“Hi,” he answers sweetly into your hair as you throw your limbs over him.
You smile and press a small kiss into his metal chest. His arms pull you closer against him. “Where were you?”
The silence before his response gives you all the answers you need. You glare up at him in faux annoyance. “That machine? Again?”
“Baby, you know how it is,” he smirks before gently kissing your forehead. You roll your eyes. “They speak to me and I need to help them. Who else is going to be able to do the repairs?”
“Hmm.” Your eyes scan across the room. “Maybe the man with the multi-million dollar company that happens to be subsidizing the expenses of this room?”
Victor just keeps smiling, the kind that warms your stomach and fizzles out your anger.
You move to get off of him and roll over to the other side. “Stop it.”
“What?” He chuckles, reaching for you. You swat his hand away.
“You know what.” You pull your covers up to your chin, snuggling in for a goodnight’s rest.
You hear him shifting around to lay right against your back, slightly shaking your shoulder. “Baby.” Burrowing under the covers further, you give him nothing. “Baby.”
Sighing, you crack one eye open to look at him.
“You are the most important thing to me.” He places a hand on your cheek, keeping you close. “From now on, I’ll be here when you call.”
“Are you sure?” He frowns slightly. “The machines need you too.”
You weren’t trying to be sarcastic but it was a truth about his work, a truth that you were coming to realize more and more as time went on. The reality was it wasn’t fair to expect him to be here all the time.
You wanted to respect him and the life he leads as much as possible and you were willing to sacrifice a few nights of sleeping next to each other so he could feel better about the world. “I don’t want to force you to choose between me and your life’s work. You deserve both, Victor.”
He dips his head down before surging forward to kiss you. “You’re amazing, you know that?”
Still a little dazed, you grin into your response. “Demonstrating my respect for you was the key, huh?”
He pulls you back into his arms, pressing his head against yours. “I’m going to be here because it wasn’t ever a choice for me. I knew when I met you that you were it for me. The machines...they’ll always be there, but you?” His lips linger against your forehead. “You are more sacred to me than all of them.”
You snuggle into him again, taking in the firm angles of metal juxtaposed against the smooth surface of his skin. “I adore you,” you whispered against his neck.
His stomach dips a little as you felt the curve of his smirk against your skin. “Sweet dreams.”
“Only if they're about you.”
“Whatever, babe.”
Your laughter mixed against the darkness of the room, lulling you back into slumber.
You woke up to the small hand of your daughter, Irene, poking your cheek as her loud voice filled the room. You tiredly opened your eyes and immediately met your daughters. Her purple eyes, identical to her fathers, were brimming with excitement as she practically bounced in the place where she was standing next to your bed. "Daddy's coming back today, right?" Irene asked you with hopeful expectation. Victor had been away on a business trip for two weeks, but he had promised to be back before his birthday ended.
"Yes, he's coming back today. But he won't be here until nighttime, what time is it?" You asked as you sat up, still rubbing the sleep from your eyes. Pudding stirred in his sleep next to you when you moved, slowly waking up as well and stretching.
"It's 5 AM" Irene answered enthusiastically causing you to groan. At times you wished she took after you more than Victor, your daughter clearly didn't understand the wonders of sleeping in. You let yourself be pulled out of bed as Irene tugged on your hand, forcing you to get up. She pushed you into the bathroom to get ready before closing the door and leaving to the kitchen, declaring that she'd feed Pudding his breakfast while you freshen up.
As you went through your morning routine, you mentally planned the rest of the day in your head. Since it was Victor's birthday, you wanted everything to be perfect, especially since you couldn't spend the entire day with him. You had always had trouble deciding what to do for Victor's birthday; what were you supposed to do for the man who had everything? But ever since you had Irene 5 years ago, planning his birthday had become much simpler.
To the outside world, Victor seemed like a strict father. While Victor was strict, he was also completely smitten with his daughter. Ever since her birth, you had traded fancy birthday outings for family time together at home. Last year you had taught Irene how to play 'Happy Birthday' on the piano so she could sing and perform it for him with you, and this year you were planning to make pudding together. Victor had made his pudding for the both of you countless times. Just like you, Victor's pudding was by far Irene's favourite food. It only seemed right that the pair of you made pudding for him today, returning the favour after he had made it for you so many times.
After finishing your morning routine, you left the bathroom and made your way to the kitchen to join your daughter. You walked in to find Irene already pulling out the ingredients needed to make pudding, her excitement clear as she quickly moved around the kitchen. As soon as Irene noticed your presence she came over to you, grabbing your hand once again and enthusiastically pulling you into the kitchen. "We don't need to start cooking yet. It's still so early." You assured your daughter, though you knew it was futile.
"We won't get it right the first time. We need to start as soon as possible." Your daughter shot back, clearly intent on starting now despite the time. Your pride stung at her insistence that you would mess up, but you knew she was probably right. Defeated, you agreed to start making the pudding, determined to make it perfect for Victor.
"At least eat some breakfast first," You insisted, pulling out some bread and placing it in the toaster. Irene pouted but obeyed, seating herself on a stool at the kitchen island and waiting. As you waited for the toast, you unlocked your phone to open the pudding recipe. You had secretly gotten Victor's pudding recipe from Mr Mills, but it only had the ingredient measurements, not the instructions. You relied on the internet and the countless times you'd watched Victor make pudding to fill in the blanks, desperately hoping you could get it right.
After both of you had eaten breakfast, you got to work. You tied an apron around your waist and helped Irene with her smaller matching apron before turning back to the pudding ingredients, both of you filled with determination. Irene handed you the ingredients as you followed the instructions you found online as closely as possible, knowing the slightest mistake could ruin everything. Still, when the pudding was done you knew it didn't smell or look right.
"What went wrong?" Irene asked with a pout, staring at the failed pudding with disappointment. However, she only let herself be disappointed for a few seconds before she was once again enthusiastic. "Let's try again!" She insisted, already moving to hand you the ingredients again.
After another failed attempt Irene's pout returned, her shoulders slightly slumped in defeat. This time you had to be the one to insist on a reattempt, encouraging your daughter to hand you ingredients once again for your third, and hopefully final, attempt. You found different instructions to follow, hoping this one would suit Victor's recipe better.
"We did it!" Irene shouted excitedly as you poured the pudding mixture into the dessert cups. The familiar smell of pudding wafted through the kitchen, pleasing your senses and making you miss Victor even more. You put the pudding in the fridge to cool before moving on to decorate the house. You had made decorations with Irene yesterday, and you only had to put them up before the house would be completely ready for Victor's return. Irene put on a party had and insisted you do the same, pulling you down to her level so she could place it on your head.
You finished putting up the decorations as Irene followed Pudding around the house, attempting to put a party hat on his head as well despite the cat's disinterest. Once you were done you sauntered over to the living room and flopped onto the couch, letting exhaustion take over you after being woken up so early. Eventually, Irene gave up on Pudding's party hat and joined you, turning on the TV before sitting beside you and cuddling up to your side.
You felt like sleep was about to take over you when suddenly you heard the front door unlocking. Before you could react, Irene was ahead of you already running to the front door. You followed behind her, excited to see Victor after what felt like way too long.
"Happy birthday daddy!" You heard Irene shout excitedly as you arrived at the front door. You smiled fondly as you watched the pair of them; Irene had leapt into Victor's arms as soon as she was able, and he had instinctively hoisted her up so he could carry her comfortably.
"Thank you, princess," Victor replied softly, kissing Irene's forehead before hugging her tightly. He looked over to you as your daughter hugged his neck, his gaze tender and longing. You closed the distance between you, leaning in to give peck his cheek before pulling back and staring into Victor's eyes.
"Happy birthday," You said, unable to tear your gaze away from his. Instead of replying verbally, Victor leaned over, your daughter still in his arms, and placed a chaste kiss on your lips.
"We made pudding!" Irene declared, before struggling out of her father's arms and dashing to the kitchen. Usually, Victor would have called out to her to remind her not to run inside, but he seemed to have completely forgotten to do so as his gaze focused solely on you.
"I missed you," Victor declared, softly pulling you into his firm arms. You instinctively hugged him back, basking in presence, you felt like every bit of pent up stress and worry you had left your body.
"I missed you too." You mumbled against Victor's chest, unwilling to move from the comfort of his embrace. You felt his him nuzzle into your hair before he pulled back slightly to leave a soft kiss on your neck. His lips moved upwards, planting a soft trail of kisses up your neck towards your jaw. He sucked on your jaw lightly, though not enough to make a mark, before his lips were finally hovering in-front of yours. His eyes opened to stare into yours, gazing into your eyes intensely halting you in your place. He tightened his grip on your waist tightened before he finally pressed his lips against yours. You let out a breath you didn't even know you were holding, completely relaxing into the kiss you missed so much for the last two weeks. You felt one of Victor's hands leave your waist, entangling itself in your hair as he pulled you impossibly closer.
"Daddy! Come look at the pudding!" Irene's called loudly from the kitchen, forcing both you and Victor out of your trance. Victor interlaced your hands lead you to the kitchen where your daughter was waiting. Irene had already pulled the finished puddings out of the fridge and placed them on the counter. Irene looked at Victor with a giant grin on her face, her eyes full of expectation as she waited for his reaction.
Victor smiled back, his hand still interlaced with yours as he walked towards the pudding. Irene impatiently shoved a spoon into Victor's free hand, bouncing in place as she waiting for her father to try the pudding. Victor took a scoop of the soft dessert, bringing it to his lips teasingly slow as he stared at his daughter.
"Daddy, please just try it already!" Irene whined, attempting to reach up and push the spoon into Victor's mouth quicker but she was too short to reach. Victor chuckled before finally eating the pudding in silence. Both you and Irene looked at him expectingly, nervous about the taste as you hadn't taste-tested it.
"It's delicious," Victor assured the both of you before taking another bite. You let out a sigh of relief and Irene cheered proudly before enthusiastically hugging Victor's hip.
"Happy birthday!" Irene excitedly said again before pulling away from the hug and grabbing a pudding cup for herself. She sat down and started eating, immediately becoming absorbed by the delicious taste, ignoring everything else around her. You approached Victor while your daughter was distracted, taking the chance to kiss him on the cheek. Putting his pudding down, Victor wrapped an arm around your waist and left a tender kiss on your temple.
"Happy birthday Victor," You said once again, tugging slightly on his tie to maneuver him so you could leave a chaste kiss on his lips.

“It’s Okay, I’m Here” ↠ Victor x You [FLUFF]
Pairing: Victor x Reader (You)
Genre: Drabble, Fluff
Word Count: 921
Summary: In the warm embrace of Victor, you are comforted
You stand in front of Victor’s office, gulping as you struggle to breathe. What is wrong with me? You think as you pull in a deep breath. Nice and slow. In. Out. Repeat.
The hand on your heaving chest slows down and you can feel your fluttering heartbeat gradually return to normal. Steadying yourself against the wall, you frown as you reflect back on what could possibly be making you feel this way. Nothing had been particularly stressful in your relatively busy life. You were here to deliver the quarterly report of the company to Victor. A task which you have completed countless number of times. And you know there isn’t anything wrong with the report because you had spent the past week poring over it. So what is it?
The door swings open then, revealing a harried Goldman. The sudden noise nearly sends your heart into overdrive again. “Oh!” Goldman says, a little surprised, “You’re here early?”
You nod as you clutch the report tightly, “Is-is he ready to see me?”
A muscle twitches in Goldman’s cheek, “Yes,” his expression twists as if smelling something unpleasant. “I do have to warn you, the CEO is not in the best of moods today. I suggest that you make your report as brief as possible.”
You offer Goldman a weak smile as you shakily walk past him into Victor’s office. Breathe, you remind yourself, it’ll be okay.
The door closes behind you with an ominous click and suddenly, you find yourself wishing you could be anywhere but here. You suck in a another breath.
“10 minutes,” Victor says gruffly, not looking up. “I’m giving you 10 minutes to present your report.” He’s not looking at you. Instead, he’s glaring at the file in his hand with his head resting on his other hand. You feel the chillness emanating from him and you shiver involuntarily. The tension in the room feels as if a storm is about to break.
You take in a deep breath. And then another.
He looks up then, probably wondering what was taking you so long. His gaze softens just a fraction at the sight of you, and that calms you down. Sort of.
“Okay,” you start and wince. Your voice is crackly. Victor’s brow crease and he puts down the file in his hands, giving you his full attention. You’re not sure if that was better.
You begin the report with a shaking voice and your heartbeat quickens. Victor frowns then and you find it hard to breathe. You try to soldier on, but you keep making stupid mistakes.
“Stop,” Victor finally cuts you off, voice curt and you stutter awkwardly to a stop. “That’s enough,” There’s a pause. “Are you trying to waste my time on purpose?”
Suddenly you feel an overwhelming urge to cry. Pressing your lips together, you shake your head silently. Victor glances at his computer and his expression sours even more. “I have no time for incompetency,” Victor states coldly, typing away, “So stop being such an idio-”
A whimper cuts him off and you belatedly realize it came from you. He looks up to see you with watery eyes, shining with unshed tears as you press a hand to your mouth trying to muffle the dry sobs that were threatening to burst out of you. Victor’s eyes widen in surprise and in an instant, he’s standing up and crossing the room to you. You feel yourself being gathered into a firm chest, strong arms holding you tight. And then the dam bursts right open, unleashing a torrential downpour of tears as you sob into Victor’s chest.
“Hey,” Victor murmurs, his voice is low and uncharacteristically gentle. “What’s wrong?”
You shake your head as your hands fist Victor’s shirt. Victor presses soothing, firm fingers against your back as he tucks you under his chin. “I-I don’t know,” you blubber. “I’m sorry.”
Victor sighs and you feel him pulling you in a little tighter. “Dummy...” The nickname is affectionate and it hovers above your ear. “Why are you sorry? There’s nothing to apologize for. You can cry, it’s okay.” You can hear his heart beating to a steady, strong rhythm and it calms you down. “It’s okay, I’m here,” Victor whispers, his hand is stroking your hair as he holds you tight. “It’s okay.”
He continues to murmur litanies of “It’s okay” and “I’m here” as your shoulders gradually stops heaving.
“I’m sorry,” you sniffle, “I don’t know why I’m like this today.” You attempt to laugh, but your voice cracks. Victor could feel his heart breaking along with your voice.
Suddenly, your eyes land on the desktop calendar over Victor’s shoulder. Oh. That was why. Today was the anniversary of your father’s passing.
“Ah,” you exhale, “It’s...the anniversary of my father’s death,” your voice is shaky. “I...didn’t realize.”
Victor holds you tighter after hearing those words. “Idiot,” he sighs again, but his tone is tender. “You don’t have to apologize, I understand.”
His next words are warming and almost makes you cry again.
“You... can cry anytime and you don’t have to have a reason. You don’t have to apologize for anything and you can unleash it all on me. I...want to be someone you can depend on. I’ll be here for you.”

Prompt 18 - Family Visits
Part 1
Mr. Love Queen’s Choice - Kiro and Victor
----
Everyone that had ever met her knew just how much she loved her father. To her, he had hung the moon. Everything he did was for her to keep her safe, to take care of her. She knew that. Knew how she was his pride and joy. They needed each other. Brought out the best in one another.
So when he died, she was lost. How do you wake up every morning when your sun is gone? She woke up and continued doing what she did every day. She went to school and after school, she worked under Anna.
She made it a point to visit his grave every weekend, she would update him on her week. From her tests to her crush. She made sure that no matter what was going on she had lunch with her dad. It was important.
This continued until she graduated.
Then her world caught fire. Her company was going under. She met four interesting but completely different men. Everything changed so quickly and in between saving her company, saving the world, and trying not to die she hadn’t visited the grave.
She woke up facing her nightstand, and he was there smiling back at her. His photo a constant reminder of his love. She missed that smile. Missed him.
She rolled out of bed, letting her feet hit the floor. It was Sunday. It was Sunday! She had no plans. BUT SHE HAD PLANS! It was Sunday, and she was going to see her dad.
…..
Kiro
She had texted him to meet her ad this address. He thought he trusted her enough to just show up at any address she sent him. But as the incognito blonde man walked up to a graveyard, he was slightly worried.
As he walked through the iron gate he looked around before eventually spotting her brown head slightly higher than the headstones. She was sitting in front of a stone. And as he got closer, he could hear her talking. She was talking to someone or rather something. She was talking to the headstone.
He didn’t mean to sneak up and eavesdrop, but he was curious.
“Dad, he’s so silly. You wouldn’t believe it. No matter what kind of day I am having all he has to do is hand me a piece of candy or call and I realize I’m not alone anymore.”
He smiled as he approached her, doing so a little more loudly now so as not to startle her. “He sounds amazing.”
“Yeah, he really is.” She returned his smile. “Dad, meet Kiro. He’s the one I was telling you about.”
…..
Victor
It was just like him to not let her go alone. When she called him asking if he was busy today his first reaction was to scoff, he was always busy. But there was something in her voice that made him agree right away. Not that he would have told her no he normally would have just made it a slightly bigger deal about it. She tried to give him an address but the moment she got the third number out he knew what she was doing. And he knew what this meant.
“I’ll pick you. Be ready in 20 minutes.” Then he hung up the phone. He wouldn’t give her the ability to argue.
He was slightly caught off guard when he saw her waiting outside with a picnic basket and a blanket. But she was smiling when she got in the car.
She caught him looking at the basket and in one of her more perceptive moments; she explained herself.
“He loved shared meals. He thought that they had a way of bringing people together by encouraging conversation. Even when it’s just me and dad, I bring a meal.”
“He must have been a smart man.”
“He was.” She was still smiling but he could see the sheen in her eyes. “You remind me a lot of him, you know? He was big on making me learn. Always making sure I was doing my best, making me learn on my own, but there to help me up when I fell.” She was crying now, but the smile was still there.
Victor wasn’t one to shy away from this topic he knew the pain of losing a parent. He understood this better than anyone else.
He thought back to the time he accidentally called her when he’d meant to call his mom. How she didn’t judge him but tried to give him advice.
He smiled. “I can’t wait to meet him.”

So hopefully tomorrow I’ll have Gavin and Lucien finished. So there should be two posts tomorrow!

“Gingerbread houses don’t have rooms.” He didn’t try to stop her as she added them.
“Why not?” She didn’t even bother to look up at the CEO as she held the two pieces of gingerbread together.
She had broken a larger piece of cookie into two pieces and she decorated them. There were doors, she used a twizzler as a shelf, and she went a little ham on the “wallpaper.”
It amused him how carefully she attached the newly decorated inner walls of their gingerbread house. She made a makeshift couch out of peppermint circles, drew little white zig-zag lines on a peppermint pattie, and constructed a livingroom.
“You know that no one will ever see that.”
She met his eyes and in an uncharacteristically thoughtful tone she said, “With inner walls, it goes from a gingerbread house to a gingerbread home.” She laughed and in a much less thoughtful tone, she continued. “Plus, there are a lot of things people will never see but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be there.”
Then as if she had never said a thing she went back to building the gingerbread house.
He watched her as she added the roof to the “gingerbread home.” It was her final touch. She looked so proud of herself, the many facets of her personality shining through.
Victor couldn’t help himself.
“The roof is asymmetrical.

He stood there watching the girl step awkwardly onto the ice and then quickly back off. She repeated this several times. How someone could be both so brave but also so timid baffled him. He had witnessed this same girl run headfirst into danger and now she was scared of ice.
“If you aren’t going to take this seriously I’m leaving.”
She huffed, a small puff of breath could be seen.
“I am taking this seriously. What if I fall?”
This is the same woman that had willingly nearly sacrificed her life to save the city. He might be able to predict her actions, but her thought process was beyond him.
“It’s not a matter of if, but when. And when you fall I’ll pick you back up and we will continue. I’m here so there is nothing to worry about.”
He took her hand and stepped with her onto the ice.
“Do you remember what I told you was the most important thing?”
“Stopping.”
With her answer, Victor gave her a slight push.
The girl started moving, slowly and for reasons he would never understand she began flapping her arms like a bird.
“What do you think you are doing?”
“Keeping my balance.” She slowed to a stop.
“Do you even listen when I talk?”
He skated over to the girl, grabbed her hand, and continued on.
“Victor! Please, what are you doing!?”
“Skating. That also happens to be what you are doing. Now keep up.”
Victor pulled her close and led her into a spin.
“Why are you so good at this?”
“I’m not an idiot. The basics are simple.”
“It must hurt you, being nice.”
“Not as much as thinking must hurt you.”
She put her hands on her hips and stuck her tongue out. She started straight for the wall.
Victor laughed and quickly grabbed her pulling her close, “Clearly I wasn’t wrong, did you forget that we were skating?”
She grinned, clapping her hands and jumping. “I was skating! I AM SKATING!”
He would have been impressed had she not lost footing.
“Dummy.” He couldn’t help but smile.
