There was silence until a cracking noise was heard in the room where Vincent and Frances were asleep. Vincent woke up terrified tapping his sister's shoulder to wake up.
" Frannie wake up!" he whispered looking around the room. "What ?" "Did you hear that?" "Hear wha-" before she could finish, the noise was heard again. "That!" Vincent said as he covered himself with the blanket. "It came from under the bed." she tilted her head to the bed edge to look. "No no! Don't look it might be a monster !" he quickly grabbed her arm. "It will eat my sword !" Frances shouted, "what should we do?" "I have an idea, when I count to three, we run to the door, okay ?" Vincent whispered terrified. Frances nodded. "One.... two... Three!" they both stood up and run to the door exiting the room shutting the door behind them. "What now? Where do we go?" Frances looked at her brother. "Follow me..." he grabbed her hand and walked towards the Master bedroom. They slowly opened the door and peeked inside the darkroom, where their parents were asleep. They then walked inside. Because the nearby window was open, the door closed loudly from the wind. Their father woke up and looked at them, green eyes glimmering in the dark. Soon after their mother woke up. "Vincent? Frances ?" she yawned. "We... We think there is a monster under our bed!" Vincent hugged his sister. "A monster?" their father stood up and slowly made his way to them. "Yes, it made cracking noises and I think it ate my sword!" Frances said terrified. "You keep a sword under your bed ?!" Claudia's eyes widen. "Of course she does. She is your daughter, after all!" Cedric chuckled. "Fair enough..." Claudia crossed her arms. "The monster might eat us!" Vincent shouted at his father. "Shh, let's not wake up the servants" Cedric smiled at petted Vincent's head. "Dad, your hair is a mess..." Frances gave him a judgemental look making Cedric's smile widen on his lips. "Seriously Frannie! The monster might eat us !" Vincent hit lightly his sister's head. "Don't fight you two!" Claudia stood up and took her white robe.
Cedric gestured at both of the kids to come for a hug. "How about Mamma and Dadda go and see in your bedroom that monster? You stay here and we will take care of it" Cedric smiled hugging his children. "Okay... Come on Frances" Vincent pulled his sister over to the bed as they both covered themselves with the blankets. Claudia and Cedric looked at each other trying to stay serious until they left the room. "How cute was that now!" Cedric laughed as they closed the door and started walking towards the children bedroom. "They are definitely your children... And especially Vinnie." Claudia giggled and opened the kid's bedroom door. It was dark inside. The candle had gone out, it was probably the wind from the open window. She went and closed it. Cedric looked under the bed and picked up the sword. "Well, I wonder where she took it from." Cedric smiled at his wife. "The sword? Probably Tanaka forgot to place it back after his training." She looked back at him. "Not the sword. That she is keeping it under her bed as you do, Love!" "Stop with that joke, it's for safety reasons and you keep a scythe with you all the time." she crossed her arms smirking. "All right, I apologise! I guess there are no monsters here, so let's head back to the bedroom." he placed the sword at the top of the bookcase next to the door. "I will inform Tanaka to take care of it in the morning." he smiled. They left the room and started walking back. Vincent and Frances had fallen asleep on their parent's bed. They were tired after all. Claudia opened the door and walked towards them with Cedric following behind after closing the door ever so slowly not to wake them up. She sat on the bedside and covered them with the blanket. Cedric couldn't help a warm smile form on his lips. Claudia kissed their foreheads as Vincent opened his eyes slightly. "Could you sing a lullaby?" he whispered with a sleepy voice. "Please mama..." Frances woke as well and sleepily completed. Claudia looked at her husband that nodded with a smile. "All right..." she sighed but couldn't help her smile. Cedric sat next to Frances and took both of them in his embrace. "Backward, turn backward, O Time, in your flight, Make me a child again just for tonight! Mother, come back from the echoless shore, Take me again to your heart as of yore; Kiss from my forehead the furrows of care, Smooth the few silver threads out of my hair; Over my slumbers your loving watch keep;— Rock me to sleep, mother, – rock me to sleep! Backwards, flow backwards, O tide of the years! I am so weary of toil and of tears,— Toil without recompense, tears all in vain,— Take them, and give me my childhood again! I have grown weary of dust and decay,— Weary of flinging my soul-wealth away; Weary of sowing for others to reap;— Rock me to sleep, mother – rock me to sleep! Tired of the hollow, the base, the untrue, Mother, O mother, my heart calls for you! Many a summer the grass has grown green, Blossomed and faded, our faces between: Yet, with strong yearning and passionate pain, Long I tonight for your presence again. Come from the silence so long and so deep;— Rock me to sleep, mother, – rock me to sleep! Mother, dear mother, the years have been long Since I last listened to your lullaby song: Sing, then, and unto my soul it shall seem Womanhood’s years have been only a dream. Clasped to your heart in a loving embrace, With your light lashes just sweeping my face, Never hereafter to wake or to weep;— Rock me to sleep, mother, – rock me to sleep..." Vincent was calmly asleep, he loved his mother's voice. It was calming, sweet and comforting each time. Frances was drifting off to sleep as well, she last lifted her head to look at her father. "I will fix your hair tomorrow..." she said as sweet sleep overtook her. Cedric kissed her forehead. "Tomorrow, now rest my precious..." "Who could have thought the Legendary Grim Reaper would love his daughter and son that much..." Claudia teased him. "Who could have thought the Watchdog had an angelic voice." he giggled and took her hand pulling her in the family hug. "You need a lullaby as well, darling?" "Not a bad idea!" he whispered back.
