I can't get over the splash of stars that cut cheeks. It lines up so well to harsh snow and ice crush that you get while skating. And ice crystals on high speeds can really really hurt

Yuri is the first to catch feelings, which of course he is terrible at hiding so it doesn't take long for Victor to notice
It's okay, Victor tells himself, its not like he's not used to people younger than him having crushes on him, and Yuri's got his whole life ahead of him, one innocent crush won't last long! And besides, Yuri's crush on him is quite adorable
At times he forgets he's supposed to be helping Yuri get over his crush instead of encouraging it. He'll tease him, offering to feed him, do his hair for him, practice with him, etc... And relishes in seeing the little kitten get all red in the face and mumble a pissed-off "whatever..."
There's a problem though.
It doesn't take long for Yuri to notice what Victor is doing, he's not stupid, and he certainly knows neither is Victor. It hurts to have his feelings not taken seriously, it hurts to be treated like a kid by the object of his affection when he wants to be treated as an equal, and it hurts even more that, despite all of that, he'd still rather keep quiet about it than lose what they have.
He still wants to be invited to Victor's house, he still wants to get his undivided attention, he still wants that care and praise only Victor knows how to give. As for Victor, well... It's not like he won't notice Yuri's gradual change of behavior. Instead of awkwardly accepting Victor's help, he now just lets his gaze down and nods. It feels wrong.
"Yuri..." he begins, trying to get him to look up, when not three inches from his face Yuri slaps his hand away. He's at his breaking point and Victor knows this.
He murmurs something only audible between them, "don't give me false hope, Victor"
And Victor realizes what these past months have been about; not only did Yuri fall in love with Victor, Victor too had fallen for Yuri, and had tried to cover it up with self-deception and excuses about how Yuri's feelings weren't real. But he just now noticed that it had all been real; the times he took him out for coffee, the times Yuri spent at his house, all they were missing was a title
Explaining this to Yuri was a lot easier in theory since he has so much trouble understanding it himself, and Yuri doesn't want to end up hurt
They come to an agreement in the end though. They start over, with Victor asking him out and even picking him up for dates —which will be called that from now on— and they take it easy.
I’ve read some posts about Victor x Yuri(o) relationships being extremely problematic, so here is what I think about it.
Yes, it is problematic.
Have you seen ‘Queer as Folk’? Not an American version (which is amazing!) but the British one? Nathan is fifteen in that version, as opposed to 16 yo Justin (tell me if I’m wrong). Problematic.
People do problematic things in stories and in real life. But is the age difference itself a problem or something else? Like toxicity, pressure. I think it’s the latter. Maybe it’s better to work on awareness, spreading helpful information, resources?
I have nothing to say about the age of consent except that I doubt it works in the situation when the problem actually arises. It goes like this: two adequate people, who know the law and want to have sex, they can talk to each other and are able to wait until it’s actually legal, or work around it somehow, I don’t know, by writing erotic fan fiction... oh, yeah, one of them can’t probably write or read it yet.) What would Yuri tell you if he wanted to have sex with Victor and you said he is too young yet? Nothing pleasant, I assure you.
Would Victor do it? He could... In real life, he wouldn’t because homosexual relationships are already stigmatized in Russia so he wouldn’t want to worsen it and to the time Yuri is old enough Victor would be so retired that I doubt they would still go for it. But in the anime, it’s not a problem so I imagine he could. Besides, the legal consent age in Russia is sixteen. And Yuri is sixteen.

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
A Sticky Situation I think. Obviously, it's a rare pair but my co-writers really went above and beyond with the crack purple prose and I think anyone can enjoy it.
Most fun story to write:
Detention in Greenhouse One for sure. I've been dying to write a YOI Hogwarts AU pretty much since I finished the series. Plus, I got to create a gift for my favorite artist.
Hardest story to write:
Sparks Filled With Hope for sure. It took me months to write more than a scene and I was in a really bad place at that point. I had three panic attacks in a night, got two hours of sleep, and wrote the entire thing while sobbing.
Biggest disappointment:
I was disappointed with how Start With a Cold Brew turned out. I think it's alright but definitely not what I pictured in my head.
Biggest surprise:
I was surprised with how well A Touch of Your Love was received. Most of it was written in one sitting and I was worried the smut wasn't very good, but people seemed to enjoy it.
Most unintentionally telling story:
have heart, my dear probably shows how depressed I was more than I'd like it to.

Reflection time
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d predicted?
I wrote more drabbles but fewer words than I expected. Generally, the cause was lack of motivation.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
Reigisa for sure. I didn't watch Free! until February. At that point I was pretty much a one anime gal...and now omg so much anime.
What’s your own favorite story of the year?
Desire in Your Hollow Dream hands down. God I've fucking missed writing Snarry.
Did you take any writing risks this year?
I've played around with story structure, tense, and ships, but I wouldn't call any of it a risk. I guess Clinched and Bound was a bit of a risk because I've never written anything like that but I was lucky to have Vixen guide me through it.
Do you have any fanfic goals for the new year?
I'm considering finally writing the sequel to Perfect Shapes and joining in on some Drarry fests. I love YOI but I feel like I've written about all that I can for it right now.
