And I’m Still Hurting.

Jamie was tired. He was tired for a lot of reasons. One of the main ones was from the changes to his schedule, taking his usual routine of sleeping well into the afternoon and forcing him to be a morning person. But mostly, he was tired of the distance between him and a certain Violet Banks. Whilst the pair were certainly unconventional by most accounts--going from acquaintances, to flirtatious, to something much more involved than just sex--at their core, they cared for each other deeply. Which was one of the reasons why it was even harder for her to push him away. In most of his failed relationships since his two failed marriages, he didn’t let himself get attached. He was fine to keep things casual and purely physical, but not with her. Sure, there were a few exceptions along the way, but none of them compared to the exception Jamie made in his heart for Violet.
Whether or not they continued on their convoluted path of unconventional romance, he wanted to be there for her. She was going through the most difficult thing a mother could go through, and he knew it would only be harder for her to go through it alone. He wanted to support her one way or another, and was tired of sending anonymous flowers to her apartment or checking her social media accounts to see how she was doing. He was tired of texting and not getting any replies, but above all- he was tired of her not being in his life.
Jamie Huntington was hardly a passive man, but he was a respectful one. He understood that she needed space from him, especially considering he shared a name with her son, but he couldn’t sit idly by anymore. So after a few glasses of liquid courage, he got his driver to give him a ride over to her apartment. Thoughts kept up in pace with the car’s speed along the busy roads leading to her house, threatening to get a speeding ticket of their own. He drew in deep breaths on the way there, lost in his own mind until his driver let him know they had arrived. Jamie thanked him, slid out of the car and took in a final deep breath before desperately buzzing on the intercom outside of her penthouse, hoping and praying to a God he didn’t believe in that for once... she’d answer him.
