My cousin Khrystyna in Ukraine makes fashionable bags and accessories entirely by hand out of leather and eco/vegan/alternative leather. Kriss lives and works in Ukraine’s Lviv region which, thankfully, so far has not seen the widespread violence and destruction endured by cities in eastern and southern Ukraine in Vladimir Putin’s war of aggression. Prior to the war in Ukraine, Kriss’s business relied on in-person sales at trade shows in Ukraine’s major cities such as Kyiv and Odessa. This type of business is impossible for the foreseeable future so Kriss is now completely reliant on international orders through her Etsy shop. Please enjoy “Les Contes des Fées” (#fairytales ) by #ignatiussancho (1729-1780). Sancho was born on a slave ship in the Atlantic Ocean enroute to the Spanish colony of New Granada (modern day Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, and Venezuela). When he was two years old, he was brought to England as an enslaved person. During his time in England, he learned to read and write and developed an interest in literature, poetry and music. Upon the death of his enslaver, he was freed and given an annuity. With this money, he opened a grocery shop while writing and publishing essays, plays, music, books, and becoming involved in the British abolitionist movement. Sancho is the first black person known to have voted in a British election, the first to have his music published, and the first black person known to have a obituary in a newspaper. I practice holding some light weight spacing objects to keep the upper arm still and train the motion of the forearm and wrist.
