So I'm an English teacher, and I recently got diagnosed with visual stress which tl:Dr turns out reading isn't supposed to hurt?? But I got these new glasses with green lenses that mean it doesn't hurt to read. I'd now like to share the reactions of my kids:

Several kids said they liked my sunglasses, and when told they were glasses said 'COOL, I like your glasses sir!'

A couple of my kids asked why I was wearing sunglasses, then asked why my glasses were green, THEN asked how green helps. This was all within a minute.

One of my classes got excited that I now matched with a student who has blue glasses for dyslexia, which was honestly cute

One kid, in response to me joking that reading isn't supposed to hurt, said 'IT ISNT??' and is now contemplating whether he needs to get his eyes checked

Several kids asked if everything was green to me now, to which I said yes but I can just take my glasses off or tilt them down. This was hilarious to them (who knows why)

Several kids also said that my coolness factor has been amplified by the glasses (this is the same group who said I am the coolest teacher and give off cool uncle vibes. They are fantastic).

Not a single kid made any inappropriate comments. Not one.

I adore teaching.

iPhone users you can change the colour of your phone, it’s like an overlay

Here are the steps:

Hue changes the colour (go onto light mode so you can see them better)

Intensity changes the intensity of your chosen colour

I'm so excited to see you're making good progress on your trans cu chulainn article, i've been dying to read it ever since I came across your blog and saw you mention it like a year ago. take however long you need to be satisfied with the result of course but please know that I'm very eager to see that result (and maybe if i change my document background to orange ill be able to get some work done too lol)

Thank you! Hoping that progress from here will be steady -- it's basically done at my end, barring formatting, but I'm waiting for supervisory approval and/or the go-ahead to just yeet it to a journal, at which point it'll become a waiting game. (Then potentially sending to other journals if the first, second, third ones I try don't like it/can't publish it, then some edits once it gets accepted somewhere... it could be a while.)

As for the orange background, it's because I have visual stress -- I use orange plastic overlays to read, and find that although changing my page colour isn't *as* good, it definitely reduces the jarring unpleasantness of trying to look at lines of text. Hoping I can get some specialised glasses in the next couple of months so that I can read properly without needing additional resources, though.

Even without visual stress, I think changing the page colour can make a blank page less intimidating. Or change the font to something silly so you don't feel the pressure to Produce Something Serious. Just, you know, make you sure you change it back before you send it to anyone who will mind.
