This handout promotes the idea that transitioning singers undergo a voice change that is experientially equivalent to cis male voice change
New addition to the Trans Guy Archive!
As I've been on testosterone for over 6 years now, I've certainly seen changes in my voice. I went from a 'medium' alto to a low tenor. This brief handout is a collection of different case studies of different transmasculine singers and their journeys while taking testosterone.
Man, I scared her since she thought she accidentally called a different person.
You don't understand it's totally your responsibility as a trans women to deconstruct gender roles. And you do this by not transitioning. Women can have body hair so you shouldn't get electrolysis. Women can have flat chests so you shouldn't start hrt. Women can have deep voices so you shouldn't voice train. It's incredibly important for me as a woman that you don't transition so you can challenge gender norms! Trans women shouldn't transition trans shouldn't transition trans women shouldn't transition!!! It's for feminism and not because I hate trannies

The moment this happened during an SLP session, I immediately pulled out my phone to jot it down and then gave Kaitlyn my ācan I put you in a comicā spiel.Ā
Assuming Kaitlyn sees this, I love you and youāre fantastic and I genuinely look forward to our sessions and I think youāre doing a great job.
ā¦and for anyone wondering, yes, it certainly seems that the āsmileā shape does in fact give my voice a more feminine quality.Ā āYou should smile moreā traditional male comment towards women silliness aside, I kind of like the idea that my transition journey is giving me new reasons to smile⦠this one having a practical effect!
Itās not often that we have the opportunity to combine emotional and logistical positives, so I see this as a win.
Now if I can only get over my embarrassment and practice these techniques āin the wildā like at the office.Ā I do try, but often times I find myself needed to just communicate ānormallyā and not have to devote any brain power to how Iām shaping my words⦠but in order to create that mental (and physical) muscle memory, I do actually have to practiceā¦
ā¦itās a loop of āI donāt practice as much as I should, so Iām not great at the voice yetā to āmy voice isnāt great yet so I donāt use it in the office so I can more effectively communicateā which means āIām not practicing as much as I shouldā which leads to āstill not great with the voice, Iām not practicing at the officeā¦ā and so on.
Womp wompā¦
ā¦I need to practice⦠Iām sure Kaitlyn would support that.
ā¦FOR KAITLYN!!
Woah! Is that @kaylasartwork , @bubbleverseart , AND @nyxisart ? What is this, a New Years crossover episode? (Seriously, though. Thank you all for participating, your art is wonderful and getting to know yāall this winter has been delightful.)
Itās going to be a good year, 2025. And itās going to be good because the queer community, all of us, are there for each other. Every single one of us is badass alone, and together we can weather anything.
