Mighty nein shitpost 81/?
Sooo
In the campaign, Caleb says he really realized something was not quite adding up AFTER hearing his parents screaming while they were burned alive.
It got me thinking. Astrid and Wulf’s parents never had a chance to scream (poisoning and strangulation respectively). The reason why they didn’t have the same realization as Caleb was because their parents died unable to speak, unable to cry out for their children.
You know Essek, your first red flag that Trent Ikithon and his Volstruckers were horrible people that you should not give state secrets or sacred artifacts to should have been how eager they are to call you racial slurs when they want you to leave.
I ship this. Anyone else?

Caleb and Nott:
Caleb Widogast is a homeless wizard who is having a bad day. He gets shoved in horse manure by bullies, he can't pick the lock on the pet shop he's trying to break into, and then he himself gets robbed by a goblin called Nott the Brave (no comma). Even though Nott overpowers Caleb when he catches up to her, she ultimately takes pity on him and returns the pouch she stole. It didn't have anything valuable in it anyway.
Nott offers Caleb a deal: She will help him break into the pet store if he buys her some booze. (It's easier for a human to buy it than for a goblin.)
They break into the magic pet shop and Caleb gets the ingredients he needs, but Nott sees a Wanted poster with Caleb's picture, offering a hefty reward for turning in the wanted murderer. She considers turning him in.
As Nott decides to turn Caleb in for the reward money, Caleb casts the spell he needed the ingredients from the pet shop for. Caleb casts find familiar and summons Frumpkin, Caleb's familiar who is based on his childhood cat. Unfortunately, Caleb isn't able to hold the spell for long, but witnessing this show of magic from Caleb changes Nott's mind about turning him in.
Caleb and Nott agree to travel together for a while. Nott can help Caleb obtain his spell materials, and Caleb can help Nott obtain alcohol.
The Luxon Beacon
The Luxon Beacon, an item of extreme religious and practical importance to the Kryn Dynasty, is stolen by three Dwendalian Empire Volstruckers: Astrid, Eadwulf, and Dain.
The Volstruckers realize too late that they've walked into a trap. The beacon's defensive magic causes a large explosion at the Dwendalian border outpost between the Kryn Dynasty and the Dwendalian Empire.
Trent Ikithon, the Archmage of Civil Influence for the Dwendalian Empire, is giving his young students a demonstration in torture when he's interrupted by a Volkstrucker named Owelia. Owelia tells Trent Ikithon that the king has summoned him. When Trent arrives at the palace, King Dwendal plays a message from The Bright Queen, the ruler of the Kryn Dynasty. The Bring Queen accuses the Dwendalian Empire of stealing the Kryn's sacred beacon, and she tells King Dwendal that if the beacon is not returned, there will be war. King Dwendal knows nothing about the beacon, and Trent Ikithon accuses the Bright Queen of engineering the whole thing as an excuse to declare war on the Dwendalian Empire. King Dwendal says to prepare for war.
Ikithon returns home, and Astrid, Eadwulf, and Dain are waiting for him with the beacon. Astrid and Eadwulf made it out of the blast relatively unharmed, but Dain, who was at the center of the blast, is badly injured and in extreme pain. Ikithon tells Dain that the Empire will be forever grateful for his service, and Dain dies. The beacon begins to glow.
Dain's soul is pulled into the beacon. Astrid is upset, but Ikithon tells her to instead rejoice, because the beacon "is the key to everything."
Beau
Beauregard Lionett is the rookie on an investigation team from the Cobalt Soul monastery. King Dwendal has sent the Cobalt Soul to investigate the cite of the explosion at the border outpost. Beau notices that the corpses at the site are showing accelerated decomposition, and she finds a piece of refined residuum imbedded in the gate. Based on these and other clues, Beau theorizes that the Kryn soldiers were chasing after thieves at the explosion site, but her superiors dismiss her suspicions out-right, opting to give the king the explanation he wants to hear.
Beau explains her theory to Archivist Zeenoth, who brought her into Cobalt Soul. It goes badly. Not only does he not listen to her, he tells her that he's transferring her back to the library. After their fight, Beau follows Zeenoth down to the Mudtop Ward. He disappears inside of a shop and Beau follows him through a secret passage. The passage leads to a room full of gnomes refining residuum. From there, Beau follows Zeenoth to another room and sees him meeting with Owelia. It's clear that Zeenoth is working with the Volstruckers.
Beau attempts to follow Owelia, but Owelia notices her and attacks. Beau is nearly killed in the fight.
Beau wakes up in the quarters of Dairon of the Cobalt Soul. Dairon sews Beau up and explains to her that the Volstruckers are "elite wizard assassins." Officially, they do not exist. They are trained by someone in the Cerberus Assembly, but the Cobalt Soul does not know whom. The Cerberus Assembly is a council of power-hungry mages in the Dwendalian Empire.
Dairon reveals herself as an Expositor, a Cobalt Soul spy. Dairon has been investigating the Cerberus Assembly for a while, and now she wants Beau's help.
