Idk if some of y'all even care about this but as a kid I would always watch "The Princess and The Frog" and I loved the film dearly. But one thing I was always interested in was Dr. Facilier. He was intriguing to me I would wonder "how'd he get into Voodoo?" "What's his backstory?" "How'd he meet his friends on the other side?" Never did get an answer..but today I went to YouTube and watched a clip of the movie where Facilier is talking to his "friends" and I went to the comments people we're saying "this guy deserves his own movie" "I wish we knew his backstory" and so I took to Google and tried to find anything about Facilier. This is what I found...so far?

Facilier also claims to practice Hoodoo or traditional folk magic.

In an earlier script, Dr. Facilier would not just be a dark wizard who wants to conquer New Orleans with the help of his friends, he would have been Mama Odie's son, who followed the path of the dark arts, unlike his mother. In this same script, there was to be a showdown between the two of them, which would have converged into a major battle during the Mardi Gras.

Facilier was originally named Dr. Duvalier after Francois "Papa Doc" Duvalier, the Voodoo practicing genocidal dictator of Haiti. Duvalier also had a fondness for dressing as Baron Samedi but also prayed to Jesus Christ. Perhaps to avoid reprisals from Duvalier's remaining supporters, the name was changed to "Facilier" from "facilitate" meaning "to enable."

Facilier is the first black Disney Villain and the fourth to be French or have French origins.

Facilier appears to resemble Baron Samedi, the Haitian voodoo Loa of the dead. He wore a top hat, a tuxedo, and other accessories. He too has associations with voodoo spirits. It may be presumed that Facilier is a worshiper of Samedi.

Listen To Your Ancestors

For centuries the root of the black community has been the black church. From the Black Appalachia to the deep south, the black church has always brought black people together. But, what many people don’t know is its origins are drenched in spiritual damnation and voodoo. Which isn’t a bad thing. Voodoo is the spiritual connection that reaches beyond heaven or hell, but to the outside and to your neighbor down the street. 

The church brings order and structure to what else would be a chaotic society, but it’s not the only line of structure or benevolent order. Our ancestors in heaven are our benevolent order. What would they want us to do? Do we honor them everyday? What careers and relationships do they want us to embark on? 

Not everyone is meant to be in the career fields or relationships they are in because that is not what our ancestors intended for us, and so we suffer. Anytime you commit negative acts against people, you’re suffering. Hard work and overcoming the odds is not suffering. Take the right steps to get the right results, even if they are not the ones you initially wanted. Sometimes you have to start over to be free, but your legacy is  intact. 

Honor your ancestors through benevolent offerings by going to the river or creating your own altar honey. Honor all of your ancestry and not just bits and pieces because you don’t like your history. Your ancestors hear you and they know what you need in life. You may need to build your own image to prevent other people from tarnishing you to ruin. Map out your image instead of simply your career because your image may take you places that your chosen career may not. 

Be careful of how you transpire in your day-to-day communication with other people. Carefully plan your daily activities. Your health should always be at the forefront. Healthy people are more productive. When someone stresses you out, drink some Earl Grey tea. Respond to facts, not negativity. Become a factual and feeling person, not an angry person. Take 15 seconds to respond to someone if you are getting angry, or simply say, “I don’t have the answer right now, but I will check to see what I can find.” It’s better than arguing with falsehoods and emotions.
