JANAURY OF 2018 MARKIPLIER CULT INFODUMP!!
@amee-racle So, Mark's getting back home from a road trip after the holidays and whatnot and he gets a bug in his brain for little audience engagement via tumblr.com while he's away. Super fun and chill idea, right? Except this is Mark. On this hellsite. So this is what he posts.
Surface level, seems like pretty innocuous. Like the mask is creepy, sure. The little haha's being used as punctuation is a lil weird. And maybe it's a little concerning every capital letter in this post reads as a laugh, but so far doesn't seem like it's gonna get serious.
A bunch of people change their icons and chaos begins to brew.
Imagine checking your notes, and seeing nothing but this with a sea of the dark-eyed masked icons (and the zalgo generator text we looooved the zalgo generator text). There was a little problem with people spamming others, especially outside of the fandom or people who didn't want to participate, but I think that's the reason the cult gets shut down after a lil and Mark shifts to different audience engagement stuff.
I digress, Mark continues to post and it gets increasingly more concerning. (There is certainly one post where the capital letters all spell HELP ME but I don't know if I have the screenshot for that one).
This is about when the cult is like at its peak. You can not look into the markiplier tumblr tag without overseeing a positive TSUNAMI of the cult (and the resistance that some people formed, but from what I saw, they were a bit outnumbered).
And then suddenly, Mark finishes up his road trip and to my memory he posts something just summarizing his trip with no mention of the cult and acts like nothing happened in true Fischbach fashion. (If anyone has a screenshot for that post or any of the ones I'm missing feel free to reblog with it). Afterwards, the cult pittered out and Mark started to hype up other projects and videos for us to fixate on.
That was until Wilford Motherloving Warfstache.
To which Mark is famously quoted when asked to explain it in the explanation livestream "What masks?" A bit he's kept up ALL THE WAY INTO THE ISWM LIVESTREAM. I still speculate the cult will come back into play somehow, but other than it's brief mention in ISWM, we have not seen anything of it. Well. Maybe other than what I observed in an old Minecraft playthrough of his that has the Haha motif right in the title of it.
This one I noticed within the first thirty seconds, it has a very strange "interruption" (kind of like the Project Lunky hints in the 3 Scary Games videos/the old AHWM teasers, but from the looks and sounds of it it doesn't seem to have any connection to the existing projects we know of. This is in spite the fact it'd make sense for it to be a ISWM teaser given this came out 5 years ago.)
It kind of. Seems like a train of some sort with a record or someone talking in the background that sounds an awful lot like Mark. Which even stranger, that's another thing Mark cites to not exist in his projects. "There are no masks. Or trains," as he says at the end of ISWM explanation stream. Which could be a nod to people speculating project hints over his Oriental Express reference in WMLW, something he found rightfully ridiculous. But if it was just that... it's odd he's still bringing it up. (Maybe we'll get answers in WAIA 2??)
