Good Omens Fic Rec: Fakes and Forgeries

Aziraphale, a very competent art conservator who specializes in oil paintings, spots a fake van Dyck at Michael's gallery. He is hired by interpol officer Gabriel to hunt down this forger, who had duped wealthy folks out of millions for recreations of van Dyck and Rubens paintings. They team up with Anthony Crowley, who has worked the circuit selling paintings and might have a clue on who is forging them (maybe because he's the artist they're looking for). Too bad Anthony got mixed up with Beelzebub Prince and a terrible gang that are also looking for said forger. They sold a bad painting to their boss? They want revenge.

*Minor Spoilers* This is an excellent AU! In this world, Crowley is an art forger with 20 years of experience. Will his wiles finally be thwarted when Aziraphale, a highly skilled art conservator, reveals one of Crowley's latest sales to be a fake? This has it all! Slow burn, enemies to friends to lovers, sexual tension, the intimate act of cooking for each other, the mob, only one bed in the romantic safe house, lying to protect each other, a dramatic rescue!! Literally grab your snacks and settle in, this one is so much fun.

They both respect each other intellectually so much here and that's always a favorite of mine. They admire each other. It's important to me that they can impress each other with their skills and knowledge. It's quite a slow burn, but in a lovely domestic sort of way. Even though it takes them time to start a relationship, they're so intimate and gentle with each other from fairly early on. I really enjoyed both of their characterizations here. We get the basic shape of their canon without being awkwardly forced. When lines/plot reference canon it's done in a way that really flows and isn't just copy pasted in.

If you haven't read this one before I definitely hope you check it out! Great for fans of banter and wine drunk nights. Mostly safe in public, all explicit scenes are later in the story but are not marked off for skipping so that's your own journey. Good for reading in breaks, I binged it and it was an excellent choice for that.

Definitely my favorite kind of BlackBonnet fanfiction, and @waldosakimbo wrote it so well. I always loved reading this author. They get human emotions so well just enough angst and hurt!comfort to keep you on your toes and get your heart beating again but not too much to drown their love in toxic behaviors. The perfect balance. Thank you so much for this wonderful reunion ♡

Takes place #Post S01 and it is a well written #Reunion with a touch of #Angst and some sweet #Hurt!Comfort. Written in #POV!Stede where he is a reinvented #BAMF!Stede who skillfully breaks down #Blackbeard!Ed's facade. With #Jim Jimenez's brief appearance. The #Black Cravat trope is brought back. Stede manages to bring Ed back with a lot of #Aftercare and #Cuddling and #Apologies and a bit of #Manhandling. Set on #The Revenge during #Golden Age of Piracy.

thnx for the prompt! This has two interpretations one is...PRU compliant and the other is just Hermann has real bad anxiety about his relationship so choose your own adventure

It’s embarrassing, Hermann thinks, once he’s realized he’s not still stuck in- in wherever it is his dreams take him. Actually, he’s still not sure he’s back safe in bed, because the darkness can be deceiving. He’s not sure of much, there’s nothing in the darkness but himself and the all encompassing feeling that he’s going to choke on the thing he’s holding deep inside and die there. Alone.

Except he’s not alone. Newt sits up in bed beside him, rubbing his back. It’s been several months of sharing a bed with Newt and Hermann doesn’t think he’ll ever get used to it. Something dark in the back of his mind tells him he shouldn’t even try. Unprompted, Hermann starts to shake. Newt’s hand stills on his back and his other seeks out the bedside light, fumbling to switch it on and then for his glasses.

“Hey, Herms,” Newt says, reaching for him. “Look at me -- Just breathe, okay?” 

Newt guides Hermann by the chin with his callused hand. Hermann feels awkward about even meeting his eyes under the conditions, but he does, because this is what Newt is asking of him in the moment and he’s doing his best to make sure he’ll stay.

“It was just a dream,” Newt continues. “You’re here now. In bed with a very good looking and very smart man, which is about the coolest thing I can think of.”

“And where,” Hermann starts, sounding winded despite himself, “exactly is this man? I didn’t think there was any more room in this bed.”

Newt withdraws his hand then and rather pointedly climbs over Hermann to get off the bed (there’s no reason for this other than to tease, Hermann knows, but he allows it.) Hermann takes a few long moments to focus his breathing, to make sure he’s still breathing correctly or at all.

He hates that this is a regular occurrence, that this is his life every few nights. He hates that he’s vulnerable like this in front of someone that he loves. He hates that even when Newt is there, when he looks into his eyes, it doesn’t feel like enough. Newt is not having these dreams. To the best of Hermann’s knowledge, Newt is having the most sound sleep of his life. Every night, they climb into bed together and Newt does not wake once through the night unless prompted. Hermann only has nightmares.

When Newt returns he has a glass of water, which he hands to Hermann before climbing back into the bed.

“You need to do something about these dreams, dude,” Newt states. “A therapist or something, right?”

Hermann knows that Newt’s intention isn’t callousness but it’s hard to explain that there isn’t really a precedent for therapy for the type of trauma he’s feeling after drifting with a kaiju brain. He feels broken for the fact he even feels like this when Newt seems like the same man he’s always been.

“I am aware that this is not a sustainable coping method, Newton.” Hermann refuses to look at him yet again, mostly so the hurt in his eyes does not show. 

“Hey, I’m always going to be here, you know that.”

Newt leans forward and kisses him softly. At least he doesn’t have to meet his eyes for this. When they kiss, he can almost bring himself to believe that Newt’s not going to leave him in the darkness.

newt DEFINITELY kjhsajkhk. he just gets so worked up and they’ve been having an awful fight, not like any of their normal ones, and hermann ends up holding him to calm him down because newt’s gotten so worked up he’s in tears and he’s thrashing around and hermann whispers he’s sorry and newt is just crying into his neck, with fists full of hermann’s shirt halfway pulling him closer, and halfway pushing him back

“Nobody’s ever picked me, really. My father, certainly not. Schoolyard chums? Never. Mary. My kids.” Stede swallowed the half-lump in his throat as the rope slid loose and Blackbeard’s hands parted. Blackbeard caved forward, limp, and Stede caught him round the chest to keep him propped up. “My crew.”

Blackbeard jerked his head to his shoulder, but seemed, if not content then resigned to stay put. Stede combed through the snarls again, helping strands of curly silver hair between his fingers.

“It’s true. I only managed to secure Buttons on happenstance. Plucked him from the docks. I’m not even sure if it was the money that got his attention or the time of the month that happened to coincide, really. He’s the one who found everyone else. I’d have no one if not for him, really.”

“You had me,” Blackbeard whispered, his voice terribly tight, forced out before he could think to bite it back.

[Stede] simply fetched the rag they had used to tie around Blackbeard’s mouth. Taking a corner of it, Stede muttered his apologies in the softest voice as he wiped away the soot, starting at the obvious tear tracks. The scrape of beard held fiercely to the kohl, but with each pass, Blackbeard’s breathing evened out. He found enough strength to grip Stede’s arm, not to guide or push, but to hold onto. Bruised, but not gone, he was scrubbed clean as best as Stede could manage, and he crumpled the stained fabric in his hand.

“There,” Stede said happily. “Welcome back.”

Ed’s mouth twitched. Not quite a snarl. Nor a smile, either. Poor man’s skull was buzzing. He was practically naked, and that may have been the first kind touch in months. So, his mouth twitched. The tiniest thing as he began to thaw. It twitched, and before he could manage a word, a thought, Stede reached in and kissed that twitch away.
