I found this quote recently from my old Facebook memories and decided to make an image out of it. I found it to be a good reminder whenever we’re on the journey of creating the life we want and on our way to making our dreams come true (no matter what the dream is or how big or how small it is). Usually there is a purification process that goes into it before we see it come to pass and that purification process is no cake walk! It can be extremely painful and hurt! The crazy thing is the things we are letting go of in the process are actually very toxic and unhealthy for us, so you would think it should be easy because who the hell wants negative things? But weirdly as humans we’re a bit addicted to the negative, fears, doubts, worries, insecurities, etc. We gotta break our predictable creatures of habit ways. It’s breaking the addiction that’s the hard part, as with any addiction, it comes with withdrawal. But once you do, you discover how worth it it was. You go into the furnace, you walk through the fire, but you come out on the other side totally transformed without even the scent of smoke on you, for the better, and your life follows suit in that energy. ‘I can’t keep doing this to myself’ Nicola repeated over and over in her head. To the outside world it would appear that she had it all together but inside that was a different story. She felt as if she lived in darkness when everyone else thought that she lived in the light.  She hated what she had become. She wanted to feel something, just anything except for being numb. She didn’t recognize the person in the reflection of the mirror. She doesn’t recognize the woman that she has become. She took a breath and sighed.

She hadn’t slept in days, hadn’t eaten in two. She lied to herself and others around her. All she wanted to do was to sink down into oblivion if she could. Without warning she took a cup that was on the sink and threw it at the mirror shattering it. All she wanted was a decent nights sleep. Hell she would settle for a few hours sleep if she could. She wasn’t taking her medication again and she knew what would happen if Gabe were to find out.  She wasn’t sure of a lot of things at this point.  She would do anything to forget. She wanted to forget her past. She wanted to forget that she had almost died, that she had been a pawn in some elaborate scheme to get at her father.

Plagued by memories she decided to give up any attempt at getting any sleep. She slid her feet into her slippers and tied her robe as she walked into the kitchen. As she turned on the light, her pale face took in the kitchen. She glanced at the bottle of vodka on the counter.  She wasn’t much of a drinker but she didn’t even feel like herself. Part of her feared that she’d never feel like herself again. She needed a drink. She wanted a drink. She stared at it before she took a sip from the bottle.  She grimaced as the vodka burned down her throat and settled down into her chest.  She opened a can of ginger ale to go with the vodka. What was wrong with having a few drinks? She settled into one of the chairs.

Her body and mind were riddled with a thousand memories. She wished that she had never come home sometimes. It reminded her of just how disconnected she had become after her mother’s death. That had hit her harder than anything. She sighed as she took drink after drink. She sighed as she got up. Walking into a spare room she had been using to do some art therapy. She reached over and flipped the light on. She looked around and threw the empty bottle at the wall. She watched it shatter into pieces onto the floor. She went to her paint supplies and grabbed the glass jars that were there. She didn’t care anymore. She just started throwing them and watching them shatter. She didn’t want to feel a damn thing. She started destroying things she painted. She screamed as loud as she could. She didn’t even realize that she was bleeding. It wasn’t until she heard her name that she stopped what she was doing.

Playing checkers with death in my burning house

My life lately is like playing checkers with death while sitting in a burning house and I keep saying king me. Then telling death to grab me another marshmallow to roast. Things keep dying around me. Someone I know who knows things about such things says when small things die it is to protect the girls and I. That we will do great things. Well my dd in particular will do amazing things which I do not doubt if I can protect her and my other dd as we walk through this fire. But damn I am tired of walking through fire in my life. Fire sign. I was born in the fire or at least thrown into the fire as a baby and been crawling through it ever since. It just doesn't stop or get easier.
