I do love a good deep dive and I'm thinking of legally changing my middle name to "Over Analyzing".

This is exactly what I think is going on.

I'm not entirely sure where Wade and Wanda sit in sibling order, but the actress is older than Adam Pally, so I'm going to assume Wanda's older than Wade, too.

Let's talk about Wanda Whipple.

So, she's the elder sister, and if we're going by real life ages, Wanda's 8 years older than Wade. She was used to being the center of attention, used to being the one who got her parents all to herself.

Then Wade comes along, and maybe Pete is now paying a little more attention to him. Maybe Wendy and Pete weren't having a good time, their marriage was turning rocky, so maybe Pete started focusing a little more on the whole bowling thing, and when Wade came along, he tried to play 'good father' with him by taking him with.

And Wanda didn't like that. She was here first, damnit, she should be the one Pete's taking on these little bowling outings.

But maybe Wanda took a little bit too much after her mother, and that was something Pete wanted to avoid. So Wade comes along, and he's amicable and sweet and malleable, and Pete tries to mold Wade into someone like himself.

But it doesn't work, Wade is just too pure.

So Pete, unhappy in life, decides to just cut his losses and leaves Wade in a TJ Maxx (seriously??) while he fucks off to become World's Best Ball Tosser.

The rest of the family is now struggling to deal with his absence.

Wendy has to figure out how to care for two children by herself. Now, granted, Pete didn't strike me as the type of guy who went out and worked to support his family, probably spent a lot of time at the bowling alley to pursue his 'dream', so it was very likely Wendy was already supporting them. But suddenly having your husband up and vanish like that, especially after leaving your young son in a department store all by himself, is gonna create feelings you gotta deal with.

Wade struggles with feelings of "did I do something to make him leave? was he disappointed in me?" because Pete didn't simply vanish in the night, he intentionally took Wade to a department store and just left him there. It's possible Pete was considering taking him with him, but in the end, decided it wasn't worth the effort and just walked out. Wade can't help but take that a little personally, and as such, it molded his already good nature into one that tries to be as agreeable and non-wave-making as possible.

Wanda is angry at Pete for leaving, angry at Wade for (presumably) not being enough to make him stay. Pete was focusing a lot of time and attention on the boy, and now he's suddenly gone. Add to the mix the fact that Wendy is likely more distracted because she's dealing with her own issues after being left like that, and Wanda is feeling pretty damn angry at the world.

But some people need a focus for that anger. And Wade became Wanda's lightning rod of hate.

Everything was fine until Wade showed up. Wanda was the only child, and her parents were both here, and both loved her. Then this brother comes into the mix, and suddenly all the attention isn't on Wanda anymore. Suddenly Pete's taking Wade to the bowling alley as soon as Wade could walk to share his passion with the boy. He didn't do that with Wanda.

So Wanda started to see Wade as the intruder. The stealer of attention.

And when Pete left, it got worse.

Oh, so Dad thought this brother was so much better? I'll show them who's better.

Everything Wade did, Wanda either destroyed or one-upped him on. "Wade's not so special. Look how much better I am."

That sense of jealousy, of being denied her special place in the family only grew stronger as they grew older. When Wade grew too big for her to physically intimidate, she focused on besting him in his own interests.

Wanda isn't living her own life, she's living a better version of Wade's. Just so she can rub his nose in it.

Wanda is not a happy person, and her character could have been portrayed as something more relatable, someone who feels like she always has to be better than her sibling, because she herself doesn't feel special in her own right.

But instead we got . . . that. A bully who focused so much anger and hate on Wade, and unnecessarily behaved like a spoiled brat seeking attention to the point of it being cartoony and extremely off-putting.

I loved the scenes with Wade's mother. She was a delight.

Wanda? Not so much.

Not gonna lie. Sometimes whenever I listen to the "Abel's Breakdown" part of "Hear My Hope," I imagine Wade Whipple staring helplessly in the background afraid and unsure about what to do before finally growing a pair and helping his friends.

"This would've been better if I were anybody else"- He could be referring to his father and former idol Pistol Pete, or he could be referring to his best friend Tom as he's a brave man and a very good sheriff.

"Dear Dad, tell me what you would've done"- Wade used to look up to his father despite his absence.

"Too bad, that I'm not your braver son"- Switch "braver son" with "braver kid" and he could be voicing how he could be feeling inferior to his snotty sister Wanda.

This scenario would be very good for fanfiction.
