Chapter 2: Daffy Duck (Baffy)
Chapter 2/11: Daffy Duck.
Previous Chapter, Next Chapter.
"Daffy?" Called DJ, looking for Daffy around the lot, as tour buses road around.
"Look Mommy, there Daffy!" Called a girl.
Daffy, who hadn't gotten very far, had decided to have a bit of fun before leaving. To give Bugs one last laugh, (at work, not when they hung out outside of work). He appeared in front of DJ, "shabby job so far, constable." He jabbed his elbow into DJ's stomach, then flicked his finger up his nose, and wobbled his chin. "Quick! After me!" He yelled, pointing and he ran off, leaving DJ behind in pain.
"If you look to your left you'll see Daffy Duck being forcefully removed from the lot." Came a male voice.
Daffy ran through the lot with waving hands and his usual loud, cartoony 'ho-ho!'. DJ was chasing him, as he ducked under the skirt of a woman, and she yelped, and DJ relied back with an apology, hands up. Daffy weaved through people, 'don't let him catch you! Bugs didn't help you escape just to be caught again!'
"Daffy, come here!" Snapped DJ, following after the cartoon duck.
Daffy zoomed out the way of a car, and ran between people. He called out, "cut him off at the pass, boys!" Dodging out of the way of legs, as a siren sounded, "all units in pursuit of little black duck!"
Daffy saw a painting of a two way hallway, and ran though it, vanishing into the background. DJ followed, but ripped though the page. Daffy came out the other end, and saw the hole, he placed his hands on his hips, "well that's just cheating!" DJ ripped through the next hall, and Daffy took off again, with a laugh and waddle of his flippers.
"Daffy!" DJ yelled, following the duck, "come here!"
Daffy spun, running down the New York set sidewalk and he spun, singing, with over the top movements. He ran up the steps of the building, and DJ followed. He ran up the stairs, and opened the door of a back wall, "don't follow me!"
DJ followed, but stumbled, following off the ledge with a fearful yell.
"That's not right." A director said, walking forward. "Cut! Cut!"
DJ landed on a large, blue airbag and he looked absolutely terrified.
Daffy held up a megaphone, "that's lunch, everybody!" He called from sitting on the camera. Speaking of lunch, he was late for lunch with Bugs... not that it was anything but two friends hanging out. Right? They always ate lunch together, either in his office of Bugs', or they'd go out for lunch together.
The director looked to his watch and walked over, as DJ stumbled off it, "that airbag cost a lot of money!"
"I'm okay." DJ stumbled, "okay, okay... good morning." DJ said, frowning and looked up. "Batman, you good?" He held a thumbs up, and Batman threw his hands down annoyed. "All right."
Daffy saw his ticket out of there, more chaos, and to get to lunch with Bugs. "My chariot awaits!" He rushed over, to the large black Bat-mobile. "Yes!" He jumped into the seat and looked around, "bat-lights. Bat-conditioning. Bat-stereo!" He flipped switches and the music began playing, "to the Duck Cave!"
DJ looked over, and his eyes widened, seeing Daffy and rushed off.
"Now what are you doing?" Asked the director.
"Hey! Hey! Stay away from that Batmobile!" DJ yelled, and he grabbed Daffy by his neck.
"I'm allowed to steal. I'm a celebrity!" Reasoned Daffy, who looked over the car he had just ignited. He didn't like the fact DJ was holding his neck, he usually preferred much softer times, with a few rough... Daffy scrunched up his nose, 'why am I comparing this guy to Bugs?'
"Tell it to the judge!" Snapped DJ, taking Daffy away.
Daffy saw the car drive off, and smirked, "feeling pretty good about yourself?"
Daffy saw the jets ignite, and drive off to the watch tower, and people ran to the car, "you bested that dastardly duck?"
Daffy saw it head to a support beam and looked to his nails smugly, "and now you're gonna offer your catch to the pretty executive? And the attractive bunny?"
"Indeed." (Either DJ didn't hear the bunny bit, or chose to ignore it. Daffy doesn't know or care.)
The Batmobile crashed to the water tower, and Daffy grinned.
Kate was driving around her red car, Bugs in the passenger seat, his legs kicked up and hands behind his back, the two looking for Daffy.
"Miss Houghton!" Yelled DJ, making Kate park.
Kate looked up and saw DJ give a thumbs up, and Daffy give an evil toothy grin, and behind him the water tower slowly creaked, and came down. Kate slowly pulled off her sunglasses in shock, and Bugs' face dropped in horror, looking to Daffy in shock, who jabbed his thumb up to water tower.
"Get out of the way!" A man yelled, and everyone began screaming and running.
The mental beams broke, and water began seeping out. Finally, it fell, and Kate and Bugs was in the splash zone. Kate's face morphed to horror, and Bugs put up a tiny umbrella you get in drinks. Water soaked the sidewalk, the buildings, and the car, and water filled the inside of her car.
Her clothes were wet, dark and soaked to the bone, clinging to her skin, her hat dropped over her head, and Bugs, still dry, was in the back seat, on a boat, and fishing, he pulled up an orange fish, "what do you know? I found Nemo."
DJ, who was safe, poked his head out from his hidden spot, still holding Daffy by his neck. His eyes landed on a furious looking, and dripping wet Kate. Daffy looked to Bugs, who just looked disappointed, but not the usual 'in act' one, a genuine look of disappointment, and Daffy's stomach dropped.
Still, he mumbled out numbly, "I think she likes you." To DJ.
DJ pointed to Daffy shakily and said to Kate, "oops."
While Daffy wiggled his fingers in a wave to Bugs, uneasily.
"At first, they tell me to lose the stutter. N-n-now they tell me I'm not funny enough." Stuttered Porky Pig, twirling the straw in his drink, sat in a dinning area. He sighed, "it's a pain in the butt being p-p-po-politically correct."
"You're telling me," sighed Speedy Gonzales.
"What kind of performance do you call that?" Asked Shaggy, talking to one of his voice actors, sat a few tables away from Porky and Speedy. "You made me sound like a total space cadet, man!"
His voice actor said, "I'm sorry you feel that way. I was trying to be real to your character."
Shaggy pointed his index finger to him, "if you, like, goof on me in the sequel, I'm coming after you!"
"Yeah," agreed Scooby Doo, from in front of Shaddy. "And, I'll give you a Scooby Snack!" He growled, and watched as the actor jumped away.
"There are some areas of the script I think we need to address." Kate said, setting a napkin in her lap.
Bugs wanted nothing more but for Daffy to be in front of him, and he leaned back in his seat, dipping his carrot, and taking a bite.
"There's no heart, no cooperation, nobody learns anything." Kate listed, and Bugs held back from saying something mean and snarky to her, one that would be out of character - there was heart, cooperation and learning with Daffy.
"Daffy learns not to stick his head in a jet engine," Bugs defended, chomping his carrot fondly.
"He's gone." Kate said, scratching her head.
Bugs waved a hand, "eh! Daffy always comes back. I just tell him how much I need him. We hug, we cry, I drop something heavy on him, I laugh!" - This was only when bribing the company worked, but Daffy didn't want to come back. It would result in Bugs throwing his pride, throwing how he was written and drawn, and scooping the duck into a hug and begging him to come back. He's nothing without Daffy, and Daffy is nothing without him. They both knew that, and yet they still go through a routine.
"The duck is history, okay?" Kate assured, stressed out. Bugs stopped smile, and instead looked panicked and shocked, eyes wide and felt his insides turn to ice. "So the question is... how can I help you reposition your brand identity?" She asked, rhetorically
Bugs tuned her out, he's no doing anything without Daffy. He began watching as one of the characters beat another.
"Answer: We team you up with a hot female co-star." Kate answered, an excited smile on her face, proud of herself.
Bugs knew who she meant, that Lola Bunny! Sure, he and Lola get on, but she likes working with Tina and Bugs likes working with Daffy, the two had a fake on screen romance on occasion, but constantly? It would kill them! And so he said, "usually." He spun in a circle, and was in a blond wing, red lipstick, blue eye shadow, a mole and white dress, "I play the female love interest."
There was whistle, and Michigan J. Frog from behind Bugs, put on a top and got out his cane and sang, "hello my baby! Hello honey!"
Bugs flushed, and smiled bashfully, running a hand down his slim sides.
Kate sipped her drink, "about the cross-dressing thing? In the past, funny. Today, disturbing." She dragged her fingers across her neck, eyes stern.
Bugs frowned, Daffy loved this dress on him and the lipstick! He spun, the dress, wig and makeup off, besides the lipstick. "Lady, if you don't find a rabbit with lipstick amusing..." He began wiping it off, and waved his hand dismissively, "you and I have nothing to say to each other." He leaned his cheek into the palm of his hand.
"Look, I'm trying to be nice..." Kate said, "but I was brought in to leverage your synergy..." She was getting angry, her position was put on the line, "and I am not going to let you or some wacky duck—"
Bugs stopped chomping his carrot, and defended his bo—friend, defended his friend, "Daffy."
Kate snapped angrily, "wacky, daffy, nutty, fruitcake, crispy over rice, it doesn't matter!" She hissed out angrily.
Alright, seems like he was going to use his trump card here, "well, these matter." He brought out small awards. "And this," he dropped his Hollywood Star onto the table. He crossed his arms, and leaned on his star, knowing he won, seeing her shocked face. "And they say, we get Daffy back. Right, boys?" He asked, his voice showing no sign of disagreement.
The statues began jumping up and down, chanting, "we want Daffy! We want Daffy! We want Daffy! Bring him back! We love Daffy!"
And well, Bugs could deny that last chant. And he will. Even though he does love Daffy...
