this frame of the catmens room from the Christmas special "Everything is Going Wrong" is really interesting to me in its timeline implications for nyon.
The flag on the far right is clearly the flag of the Soviet Union. The placement is a bit strange, but im assuming that's just a style choice to keep it in frame.
This might be a reach, but the tank toy (to me) looks like a simplified T-34, which was produced for the Soviet Union from 1940 to 1958.
My personal theory is that nyon was a soviet soldier killed in battle anywhere from the 1940s-1950s and brought back to life by luther and given a new body and name (we've already seen him doing it to Sebastian so it makes sense in cannon). The process either froze him in his 20s or he ages very slowly (which is why Nyen is roughly the same age despite being from different time periods)
I feel like post-war Nyon has been desensitized to gore and violence, but he doesn't want to enact it unless instructed by a higher authority (why he tried to help the ratmen escape in lucid).
I dont think he enlisted understanding just how brutal war would be. Maybe he enlisted at the request of someone he loved. Maybe he felt he had no choice. either way, he was killed in battle after seeing horrors beyond comprehension that still haunt him to this day. Nightmares, flashbacks, and pain only a blunt can dull, but he will never fully forget what he's seen, what he's done.
