Yuru Camp (Laid-Back Camp)

I just watched the first episode of this sweet little show and was immediately floored by how beautiful the art was before even seeing the opening credits! The music fits in beautifully as well, and I have a very good feeling about this so far.

The first episode features a girl named Rin taking a day to go up and camp by a lake with a really nice view of Mt. Fuji. She usually goes alone, and she is for the first half of the episode, before she finds Nadeshiko who happens to be new to the area, very bubbly...and a little dumb. Also lost. Very lost. Rin takes her in and they spend some time by the fire together before Nadeshiko’s sister comes to get her. Nadeshiko gives Rin her number, and the episode ends with Rin talking to a friend at school as well as a look at who the next characters we’re likely to be introduced to are.

All in all, this is going to be a very simple and relaxing show to follow and watch, which is great for someone like myself that likes a little bit of everything and needs something wholesome to break up the shonen madness. If you’re big on art, then that’s honestly enough for me to want to recommend this to you. It is going to be a BEAUTIFUL show.

Sora yori mo Tooi Basho (A Place Further Than The Universe)

We have another beautiful, wholesome show on our hands with this one. I didn’t have anything to watch on Tuesday because Juni Taisen and Love is Like a Cocktail ended a few weeks ago, and Black Clover (much like several other shows that were supposed to start this week) was pushed back to next week instead. I scrolled through Crunchyroll and saw that the first episode for this had aired, and decided I’d watch it because after one episode it had almost five stars, and I’d seen people raving about the art on Facebook earlier.

The main character, Mari, has a very adventurous spirit despite being shy and kind of flaky in her everyday life, but she’s determined to go on a huge adventure and face her fears this year. She’s very relatable to the way a lot of people feel in regards to leaving their comfort zones, and I think that’s what will really help drive this show and keep people interested. I can definitely see a little bit of myself in her, and I want to watch her challenge herself and grow because of it. Anyways, she meets another girl, Shirase, in her school after returning something that she dropped on a train platform, and Shirase reveals that it’s money she’s raising to try to go to Antarctica, where her mother had gone on an expedition she never returned from. Mari can’t believe it, but Shirase is completely serious and asks Mari to go with her and meet her at the train station if she’s serious!

Between this and Yuru Camp, I’m already in scenic heaven this season. But this show will probably have a little bit deeper of a story to follow with the backstory of Shirase’s mother, and I think we’ll be seeing more character development with this series as well, especially with Mari. I can’t wait to follow up on this one next week.
