Wax Scrying for Beginners
Wax scrying is a super simple and fun way to get your divination journey started, or just to explore it a bit more. It is ideal for people who want to scry, but are not sure how to discern what they are and aren’t really seeing. In this method, you get physical shapes that you can look at longer than just a few seconds. It is also much less intense when it comes to meditative and trance-like states.
Heat-Safe Bowl (cast iron pots are a good option... cauldron, anyone?)
Place your towel over a flat surface, and make sure it is large enough to catch any wax drippings that could fall from your candle.
Set your bowl of water in the center of the towel, and focus on your intention of this session. What are you scrying for? Do you want a general reading, or a specific one? Formulate a nice and easy-to-visualize question, and then light your candle.
Allow the flame to melt the wax for around five minutes, so it can pool around the wick. Take a deep breath, and then pick up the candle by the bottom. Be very careful not to drip wax over your hand or drop the candle.
Carefully tilt it forwards and allow the wax to drip from it. If you go too slowly, it may spill over the sides and burn you. You can slowly swirl the candle in a circle over the bowl to give it more wiggle room to form shapes. Small drips are awesome as well as large ones!
Set your candle back down, and look at the images that are left. Interpret them as you would with regular scrying, and record your answers. The size of the shapes, relation to other images distance-wise, and how deep it went into the water are all things that can be taken into account.
When you’ve finished, snuff out the candle, and properly dispose of your wax-filled water, keeping nature and wildlife in mind.
I hope this gives you a new divination method to try out!
