❝ Brilliant! ❞
It has been. Far too long since they had been at a party and they were, for once, on the same side in this. A little bit of fun, right? At least, that’s what she thought this was, oblivious to anything that the Master may or may not have planned. That wasn’t to say that she’d be shocked if she did discover some evil plan. This is THE MASTER that she is in the company of, after all.
❝ Y’ready to head out to it? ❞

She nearly laughed. Was that all? All of this, to ‘send a message’. It was an unfortunate fact of life now; being taken away or just separated from their group. But this was different, personal. And no doubt it was for the Doctor. “Then what do you need me for?! If you had something to say to him, you didn’t need to take me. Just what are you planning to do!?”
Part of her didn’t want to know the answer. But if she had any hope of getting away she needed to know what she was up against.

For a few moments the Doctor stands gobsmacked, though his expression doesn't betray it- rather, his eyebrows are drawn in and his mouth is set in a hard line. What betrays it are his eyes, paler than they had been when he'd first regenerated and holding years spent knowing the silence beyond the War. For a few fleeting seconds, those memories coiled around his thought process and suffocated his vocabulary. Then, blessedly, he spoke.
"I though’ you were dead. On Golgauth, the Gallifreyan ships, buildin’s crumblin’... I thought you were dead!" It was all he could manage to get out, among the billions of other questions and exclamations floating around in his head. Both hearts beat steadily but frantically, as if in a race to outdo one another.

“Why hide? We’ve known each other long enough. An’ the games we play -well, mostly you, bu’ still - got dull about three regenerations ago. Though’ I’d save us both the trouble. B’sides, never was one much fer silly rules.”

“is that meant to concern me?” the master asked, glancing at the human. the only reason he hadn’t yet gotten rid of the human was that there was… well, he wasn’t actually certain. something
“Nah. I just think it’s odd, you know? I can remember the names of all my dogs with no issue, but John Smith? It just... I guess it just doesn’t feel like that’s me sometimes?” Which was strange in itself because of course it was him. Who else would he be? But memory had never been John’s strong point. His past was littered with gaps, and his future likely would be too.

“it’s not working out. i thought this would make things more interesting, but it’s simply not what i imagined. what is the point of ruling the universe when there is no self righteous force to go against?” the master sighed. “you’ve changed and if you think i haven’t noticed, then you’re an absolute fool.”
Oh, but how he said that, as if it hadn’t been anticipated from the very beginning - actually, he was surprised it’d taken so long to come up, or that he’d had the chance to do this from the beginning. If there were anyone that’d be able to read him like a book, it’d be the other, so instead of giving a serious reply he cocked his head and grinned, then shrugged as if he hardly cared. Truth told? He didn’t.
At least, Deci would tell himself that for now. Better than thinking on it overly much.
“Welllll, that was pretty obvious, wasn’t it? After all, I went and got a handsome new face. Couple, in fact, but never mind that. You’re the fool for going with it, honestly. I thought better of you, I really did - actually figured you’d call me out on it earlier. To hell with being self-righteous or sticking my nose in everyone’s business. I really don’t care anymore. What, are you going to get upset that I won’t play ‘good cop, bad cop’ with you anymore?”
Perhaps it was a bad idea to say that, true, but he wasn’t exactly the most sensible person at the best of times, now was he?
