Shining
We are a strong and fierce race of creatures. We slaughter not only our own kind but others either for sustenance or sport, but that is not what we really are. We are kind, we care, we love, we grow.
On a sentence sent out to space once, a message was there, along with 55 other messages. Different languages, different cultures, different headspaces, yet all called out to the universe and talking as if we were friends. And one showed our truest self, one in Amoy, a dialect spoken in Fujian, and it said “Friends of space, how are you all? Have you eaten yet? Come visit us if you have time.”
It’s the question in the middle. The care to ask if a creature light years away has had its sustenance. Wanting to make sure that it felt no hunger, and in a way felt no need to fight, no need to be on the prowl. That is humanity, it is care, it is kindness, it is love, it is curiosity, it is a child still growing, still grasping at understanding the truth of the world.
We are fierce, but we are a growing child, gnashing at the world as our teeth set in. Hold it not against us, allow us to grow, for when we have, we shall shine bright.
