To the bride | Amycus’ wedding speech
The sound of silver against delicately spun glass rings through the room.
“Ahem, if I might have your attention, please! I have some important things that are in need of saying.”
Amycus rises from his chair, holding his incredibly expensive glass of incredibly expensive champagne.
“I toast, of course, to the bride,” he says, before tilting his head at Archibald, “No offense, Archie.” Archie doesn't look as though he minds too much.
“Who would have thought that the woman who introduced me to the concept of one night stands and casual, incredible sex - pardon my language - would be the first of us to get married?”
Alecto, seated next to him, sniggered quietly into her own champagne, with the knowledge that casual and incredible sex would very much continue to be had in Maya's life.
Maya, meanwhile, was smirking at him from her place in the center of the table.
“When I first met Maya Zabini, it was like meeting a dragon. Strong, beautiful, mysterious, and fiercely independent and, I swear, constantly on fire. In that first year she got more detentions for backtalking and accidentally actually setting things on fire than all of us firstyears combined. I think a lot of our classmates were scared of her, but I have always and will always admire Maya for that fire she has in her. It's what makes her, her, and it is, in my opinion, what makes her so strikingly beautiful.”
Maya pretended to gag, but couldn't hide the wide smile on her face, despite herself.
“In the year we became friends, we started getting those detentions together and I know it sounds hard to believe, but I don't think I've ever enjoyed punishment as much as I have with Maya Zabini.”
Cass, seated next to Maya, snorted so loudly Amycus levelled him with a worried stare for a moment. Then, he winked.
“Okay, I have to admit it was even better with our dear friend Cass and my lovely sister Alecto involved, but the point stands.”
He grinned wolfishly at his lovers, “I can't say I envy Archibald Burke – I have never felt the desire to marry and I doubt I ever will, but if I did... well, Maya Zabini would be the best choice any man could make.”
He lifted his glass to a dazed looking Archibald. “Enjoy your detention with Maya Zabini, Archie my friend. Enjoy it where-” and while “-you can.”
This, of course, did cause people to laugh. This innuendo they understood. Amycus simply kept smirking, knowing Archibald Burke's punishment would follow swiftly.
“So I toast to Maya. To her fire, her beauty, and her fantastic arse. Congratulations.”
Maya laughed delightedly, raising her own glass to him.
Dear Diary Last Saturday I went to two weddings. One was a family friend's son and the other was a neighbor's daughter.
The family friend's son: Had an amazing wedding. My mom and I [Dad is on a guy's trip] went to the ceremonial mass and we made it to the last few hours of the reception.
I especially appreciated this wedding because I was fairly involved and invested in it. I was asked if I could help make flower bouquets a few days before the wedding, because they had had real flowers. Then when I found out they were setting up the next day, I offered my services there. Then, at the set up, they were afraid to set some of the more sensitive flowers out, so I volunteered to come back that next morning [the morning of] to put those flowers out.
My theory is that you need a few hands that aren't in the wedding party; who can do stuff like that. So I was happy to help. Not to mention the bride was a total sweetheart. Turns out she's my...third cousin. Surprise, surprise [*heavy sarcasm*]
So, their colors were purple and coral. 10 people in the wedding party [which made for a lot of bouquets and boutonnieres]. They had a full wedding mass. The bride and groom looked great [lots of lace on that gown! so lovely!] And at the end of the night, there were plenty of drinks and single guys for myself to look at. I know... my aunt and her friends were pointing them out left and right. I said I wouldn't mind if they fond me a guy.... but I didn't think they'd scope out the whole facility! I only want/need one!
Anyways, best of luck to the new couple. God Bless their marriage!
I had a pretty fantastic hairdo for the wedding this weekend, if you ask me.
One of the bride’s friends is in school, and she offered to do everyone’s hair. All I told her was that I’d like it to be up and away from my face, and I ended up with this amazing style!
I’ve been told that after this weekend, I need to refer to myself as “she who overbooks herself”
Wednesday night I drove up to my parents house from the hospital that I’m rotating through right now. I stopped at my fire house to look for a uniform, and helped shuffle some vehicles around at another fire house.
Thursday I had a dentist appointment. Then academics. Then I had to pick up my class A jacket from the dry cleaners and the rest of my class As from logistics. Then I met up with people from the fire house and ate my body weight in sushi for dinner.
Friday I had an awards ceremony for the fire department. Then wedding rehearsal and rehearsal dinner. Then back to teach for the fire department.
Saturday I had another fire department awards ceremony. Then the actual wedding.
I think I need another weekend to recover from my weekend.
Wedding #1 of 2016 was today! It was simple, with so many homemade touches--from the dress to the cake and plenty in between. Even though the bridal party came together from 6 completely separate areas of the bride’s life, we jelled as a group SO well and ended up having a really great time yesterday and today. Its kind of crazy to think that we didn’t really know each other before wedding planning started, because we’re already making plans to do something as a group later on this year just so we can keep hanging out!
