As usual, I appreciate any and all feedback and enthusiasm. Please reblog and leave a comment. Love! 😍
Smoke and blood lace the air, thick enough to choke the breath from you. You cough behind your sleeve as you kneel on rocks and twigs, quivering between your sisters. Your father’s blood stains your apron and your nailbeds.
The king’s men walk up and down the crooked row of women and girls on their knees. You cling to each other as the horror rises still in the groans of the dying. It was the priest in his men, those claiming their liege to be blasphemous.
The older women are culled first. A mother clings to her daughter before the soldiers rip her away and shove her with the rest. They’re led, not without some cruel lashes, towards one of the village hovels.
There’s a holler somewhere in the distance. You think the men might be in Teller’s barn; at least those that are not dead or dying in the grass and leaves. You keep your eyes down. The last girl to raise her chin too tasted the back of a gauntlet.
A lull falls over the muttering of the armoured men, leather and iron alike, and the put themselves in order. Your eyes trail over to the lofty steps marching between the lines of armed men and the scatter of frightened women. The bent knees and bowed head suggest the caped figure’s identity.
“It’s the king,” a wispy voice travels across to you.
You clasp your hands, nervous. The king, a widower, a man known for his unbending sense of justice that serves only his own whims. It is why the clergymen went about their lectures and their plotting. Look what those godly men got you all. Is it not prideful to use the pulpit for politicking?
The king’s soles stomp the dirt. He lets out short grunts. With each, a woman is ushered away. Whimpers and gasps arise from those pulled from their knees.
Your sister, Meridith, is hauled up next. You latch onto her and your other sister, Idina, grabs onto your elbow. The three of you cling together as two knights wrestle Meridith away. You fall back and Idina is seized next. You reach for her but find your wrist caught in a large hand.
You reel and turn to face your accoster. You stare into the king’s face aghast; at his touch, at your own mistaken rebellion. You are too stunned to look away.
His blue eyes bore into you, the creases beside his eyes etching deeper, his beard adding shadows to his square jaw. You gulp and shake in his grasp. He squeezes until your eyes round and he beckons with his other hand.
“This one.” He drags you to your feet and angles you toward a black-haired knight. “Do with the others as you will.”
━━━Every step we take
It's like a dance we perform together
My, oh my, oh my, oh my love
Be my only love
ITS ONLY SEASON!!!!!!
Miya Atsumu x Reader
This is just connected with the song Only by LeeHi. I am in love with that song it's unreal.
He was your only love. Every second, minute, hour, and day passed, but he was still the person you'd choose each time. Each step that you take he is there with you.
Looking at him, oh so lovingly, made you feel butterflies in your stomach. It felt unreal to be with the one and only Miya Atsumu; he looked at peace while he danced the night away with you.
It felt unreal to be dancing with him; he was enticing and full of light, leading you two together as you did your first dance at your wedding.
Can you tell this was rushed, yes? I just really wanted to make a short drabble about this song ong. I LOVE IT SO MUCH.
She stood there, more gorgeous than the sunset. Was it possible the sunset only magnified her beauty.
Harry had lost his train of thought, he was meant to walk to her, but for the moment.. He just stared at her.
Asta dressed in the purest white, the gown was simple yet classy. No sleeves, yet the fabric hugged her body in a way that Harry had yet to understand when it came to clothes. A light breeze would brush the veil she wore across her back, it shimmered like a Winter's snow, but it was Summer. Hair pulled back in a simple do, adorned with silver feathers in the clip.
The fireflies were coming out, they flickered in and out along the fields, through the trees. Their approach made Asta stand out more. The stars began to twinkle overhead, the night was coming, but all he could do was look at her. For she was all that mattered to him, his world stood before him.
Harry had to snap out of it, a small nudge at his arm brought him back from staring in awe at her. Dan smiling simply at Harry's side.
"She's beautiful.." Harry found his voice, though it hung in the air, as the rest of the Reservation had fallen quiet for them. The chirping of crickets announcing the time.
"She is. You take care of her Harry, as she has taken care of you." Dan offers, patting his arm gently before moving to take his seat somewhere within the many awaiting chairs.
Harry fixed his suit jacket a little, the navy blue broken up by plaid markings, and a brown vest underneath.. Asta chose it. He didn't mind. They both liked plaid, and this looked nice enough for him. Nothing compared to her.
Finding his legs again, Harry finally moved from his spot like a stone near the food table, to standing before Asta. His hands gently taking hers, only looking at her, as the many years they had worked alongside each other. He only looked at her. Today was different, today would be the start of a new chapter for the pair. He was happy, eyes teary as she smiled up at him.
"I'm ready.." He finally spoke.
"Me too.." Asta added, her voice soft like the Summer breeze.
Marriage was not something Margaret “Peggy” Carter ever intended to enter into. For one, she wasn’t suited to being a meek domestic housewife, and two, she hadn’t met a man who would remotely be able to change her mind. Most of them were absolute boors, who didn’t believe women should be allowed to think for themselves or do anything that wasn’t tending to said men’s needs.
She was happy to run her small town all by herself and didn’t care what the gossips and old fashioned idiots said.
But when it came time for re-election as mayor, her shady opponent managed to get the town council to revive an old law that would require her to have a husband in order to run for mayor.
Furious, Peggy nearly took Thompson’s head off, but all her lectures and wrath would not move the town council, several of whom were vocal opponents of a woman in leadership.
Aggravated beyond all reason, Peggy steamed for a while, but finally decided she’d either have to find a trophy husband somehow or give up and let Thompson run the place into the ground.
She made discreet inquiries with an agency that was known for matching mail order spouses for those in need of one. After filling out their questionnaire, she was put into correspondence with one Steven Grant Rogers, a bachelor from New York, who was interested in making a move West, but lacked the funds.
Steven handled her long distance interrogation with patience and honesty, both of which Peggy appreciated in a man.
She explained the reasons for her needing a husband and braced herself to be disillusioned once again, but much to her surprise, Steve’s answering letter expressed outrage toward the town council and offered his full support of her run for re-election.
He sounded much too good to be true, but so far the private investigator the agency used to verify their client’s character had not been able to find any history of fraud with him. He’d been in trouble for assaulting a man before, the charges were dropped because Steve had been defending a young lady’s honor.
“Can he cook, too?” Peggy’s friend Angie asked after Peggy shared the latest letter with her.
“He says he can, albeit nothing fancy. But I don’t need fancy. I need edible.”
Peggy and Angie shared a chuckle over Peggy’s famous kitchen disasters.
“Well. I’d say snatch him up! You’re not going to find any better husband candidate in time for the election and he’s agreed to your conditions. So if you’re gonna go for it, go for it, Peg.”
And Peggy did. A couple weeks later, she waited at the train station for her prospective groom. She didn’t really know what he’d looked like, beyond his brief description of himself. As the passengers disembarked, Peggy scanned the crowd nervously, wondering which one was Steve.
A tall bearded man approached her, removing his hat to reveal a head of slightly shaggy sandy blonde hair.
“Mayor Carter?” He asked, looking hopefully at her with very attractive blue eyes.
Peggy’s stomach did a flip as she realized just how very handsome he was. Please let this be Steve! begged the voice in her head.
“Yes,” she managed to reply calmly. “Are you Steven Rogers?”
“I am. A pleasure to make your acquaintance, ma’am.”
Steve held out his hand and she returned his firm shake, both seeming to silently be sizing each other up. He was very tall and very broad shouldered and looked sturdy enough to endure the hard work of the West, but his eyes were kind, not hard, and he looked like he smiled a lot.
All in all, it was a very promising picture and Peggy found herself not nearly so opposed to marriage as she had been.
Steve, on the other hand, couldn’t believe his good fortune. He’d already fallen for the strong spirit of the woman he’d been writing to and now seeing her in person, he was almost struck speechless by her. He hoped she would give him the chance to try and win her heart.
“I trust your journey was uneventful?” She asked, as she drove them out to the ranch she owned. Of course, she couldn’t live there herself right now, but it would make a good home once the two of them married.
“It was,” Steve answered. “Unless you call the over loud snoring of my neighbor to be eventful.”
Peggy chuckled. “Well, here you’ll have the whole place to yourself, at least for a little while.”
“You don’t live here?”
“No. Too many headaches for a single woman to live alone out here. I’m rooming in town for now. When we marry, I will move out here with you. I much prefer the space out here.”
“How much time do you have to make a decision on marriage before the election?” Steve asked.
“About three weeks,” Peggy answered. “But I have already made up my mind. I want to give you a chance to get to know this place and see if you could actually endure marriage to me. I tend to scare the men off.”
“I don’t scare easily,” Steve said with a small smile.
Sure enough, he was still there three weeks later and he and Peggy went before the judge to be joined in holy matrimony.
“What a lovely ring!” Peggy admired after it was over.
“It was my mother’s,” Steve explained, looking down at her left hand with a proud expression. “Father had it specially made for her.”
“Oh, Steve. I’m honored,” she said, very touched that he’d given her a family heirloom after such a short time of courtship. “You didn’t have to give me this.”
“I wanted to,” he told her honestly. “My mother would have loved you.”
And I’m pretty sure I’m in love with you. He thought.
Peggy trotted out her new husband at her announcement of running for re-election and the town went wild, except for the sulky town council members, who were forced to accept her entry and very unhappy about it.
It didn’t take long for Steve to win the heart of Peggy and the loyalty of the town.
Thompson was soundly defeated and sulked for a long time.
It was an incredibly awkward way to meet one's’s future spouse, but looking back on it later, you realized it would make an incredible tale to tell your future children. It started with you being dumped at the altar, because the man you were crazy in love with and had promised to marry changed his mind.
You’d fled the church, unable to face your friends and family, and wandered until you found a bench, just inside the nearby cemetery.
Throwing yourself down on it, you cried your eyes out. How could he do this to you? He’d told you many times he’d looked forward to being your husband. He’d been counting down the days with you and eagerly planning the future. You couldn’t figure out what had suddenly changed and how you hadn’t seen it coming.
As the sobs turned to sniffles, you heard footsteps coming up beside you and someone cleared their throat.
“Ma’am? Are you alright?” a deep voice asked.
You blinked away the tears to see a tall brown haired man standing there, looking at you with concern. He wore a lot of leather and was a bit scruffy and you probably wouldn't have acknowledged him if you’d been thinking straight. However, You were too heartbroken to care about stranger danger.
“No,” you said bluntly, wiping away more tears. So much for that mascara.
“I just got dumped at the altar. The best day of my life just became the worst.”
The stranger winced.
“Aw. That’s terrible,” he sympathized. “I’ll never understand why people wait until the last second if they can’t go through with it. A real Dick move.”
“Clearly, he didn’t have much of one,” you said bitterly.
You noticed he had a bunch of flowers in his hands and you realized that your ugly sobbing had probably disturbed his graveside vigil.
Very embarrassed, you buried your face in your hands.
“And I’ve been making a spectacle of myself in this cemetery. I’m so sorry to bother you, Mister. I promise I’m not that inconsiderate normally.”
“I wouldn’t say Crying is generally considered out of place in a cemetery,” the man observed. “And you aren’t bothering me. I was just paying my semi regular respects. My parents have been gone for years and I like to bring flowers for them.”
“That’s very sweet of you,” you said.
There was something very familiar about his face, but you couldn’t think what it was. It was a very nice face, though.
Picking yourself up, you dusted off your dress, hoping it wouldn’t be stained. Your attempt to walk forward, however, didn’t go well as your heels sank in the damp grass.
“Argh!” You groaned. “I did not think this through.”
Sitting back down, you removed your shoes. Better to get dirty feet than a dirty expensive dress.
“Can you get back okay?” The stranger asked.
“I think so,” you nodded. “You seem like a good guy. I hope your special someone appreciates you.”
Cute stranger cracked a very attractive grin. (His chin had an adorable dimple that you tried your hardest not to stare at.)
“I don’t have one, but thanks. I hope your ex realizes what an idiot he was.”
“Thanks,” you said with a grateful smile, glancing back toward the church. Your stomach churned, but you couldn’t avoid it much longer. “I’d better get going before they send out a search party. Time to face this mess.”
“So long. Hope your day gets better,” offered leather guy.
With a wave, you started back toward the church, thinking it was a shame such a nice guy was still single, never dreaming you’d meet him again.
Nearly three years later, after having sworn off romance in the wake of your own disaster, you were finally persuaded by an old college friend to go on a double date with her. It took a lot of pleading from Darcy, but when she said she was dating the new Captain America, you were more inclined to go through with it, if for nothing else than to meet the amazing Sam Wilson.
“Ok, fine. But his friend better be worth this,” you told her. “I’m not breaking my drought for some average dudebro.”
Darcy grinned in delight.
“There is nothing average about either of them. Trust me,” she said with a naughty grin.
Turned out Sam Wilson was a very charming guy and super cool when being introduced to you. You could see right away why he and Darcy were so good together and your misgivings were somewhat eased.
“So, please introduce me to your mysterious friend that no one will give me any clues about,” you said, looking pointedly at Darcy.
Sam pulled his friend out of the corner where he’d been lurking and pushed him toward you.
“Y/N, meet James Barnes, otherwise known as Bucky, otherwise known as a pain in the ass.”
You and Bucky looked at each other and then a shock of recognition had you exclaiming in unison, “Cemetery guy!!” “Jilted Bride!”
You stared at each other in disbelief, Sam and Darcy also wide-eyed, before the realization of who he was sank in.
“You’re Bucky Barnes?” You gasped out.
Bucky was looking very nervous now.
“Is that going to be a problem?” He asked, in a wary way that suggested it HAD been a problem before.
“Nope. I’m just flabbergasted I didn’t recognize you before. There was something about you that made me instinctively trust you, even though you were a stranger. I could tell you were a good guy.”
“Awww,” Darcy crooned as a crooked smile appeared on Bucky’s face.
“Let’s get our table and you can fill us in on your mysterious meeting! I demand details!” And Darcy herded you into the restaurant with unbridled enthusiasm.
When you and Bucky had finished your story, Sam and Darcy both went “awww!”
“So, you know about me, then?” Bucky asked quietly.
You nodded and he gave a sigh of relief.
“Well, I’ll take it as a good sign you’re still here.”
He looked hopeful and your heart was filled with emotions. This man was a hero who’d spent years brainwashed and forced to do horrible things, but he really was a very good man.
“This is the first time I’ve gone on a date since he dumped me,” you admitted. “I haven’t really wanted to, unless the guy gave me the same vibes you did.”
Bucky smiled at you very warmly.
“Thanks for giving it a chance, Y/N. I haven’t had much luck dating either. I think I was subconsciously comparing them all to you.”
You felt entirely too giddy at this statement.
“Their loss,” you said with a wink. “So, do I get to see your other hand, or is that a third date kind of thing?” You asked boldly, glancing at his left arm, which he’d kept mostly concealed in the leather jacket.
Sam snorted and Darcy chuckled, but Bucky turned pink and almost sheepishly placed his metal left hand on the table.
“Force of habit,” he said. “Freaks people out.”
“Not me. I think it’s gorgeous,” you told him, admiring the intricate design. “Wakanda?”
“Yep,” Bucky said, flexing it. “They’re geniuses. Fixed my brain and everything. No more worrying about being turned into the soldier again.”
“I’m very happy for you, Bucky,” you told him, feeling genuine joy for his good news. “I can’t imagine what a relief that must be.”
Sam and Darcy took charge of the conversation for a while and you and Bucky mostly stole glances at each other. Somehow, though, your hand ended up clasped in his metal one.
“So, were you able to resell your dress then?” Bucky asked. “I’ve heard they can put quite a dent in one’s wallet these days.”
“Yeah, actually I was,” you told him. “A friend of mine bought it and wore it to her wedding, which had a much happier result. At least one good thing came out of that mess.”
“Only one?” He asked, squeezing your hand gently.
“Well……..I guess we’re about to find out,” you told him, smiling shyly.
A couple years later, you were wearing white again, but this time the groom showed up, looking unbelievably handsome and grinning ear to ear.
The last few notes of the song played and Kensi sighed as Deeks held her tightly until the very end. Then, he pressed his lips to her forehead, his nose grazing her cheek as he moved back with a soft grin.
“”She’s all yours,” he said to someone behind her and she turned to find Sam waiting with a small grin of his own.
“What are you doing?” she asked suspiciously as Deeks passed her off to Sam and another song she didn’t immediately recognize began to play.
And I never thought I'd feel this way
And as far as I'm concerned
I'm glad I got the chance to say
That I do believe, I love you
“Since you don’t get to have a traditional Father-Daughter dance, we figured you should at least get a Brother-Sister dance,” he explained quietly, gracefully leading her to the center of the dance floor. An unexpected wave of emotion engulfed Kensi and she pressed her lips tightly together in a fruitless attempt to stop the prick behind her eyes from turning into full-on tears. The entire day had been full of surprises and she wasn’t sure she could handle one more, even if it was a happy one.
“Sam...”
“I know you didn’t expect this, but I wasn’t about to miss out on a dance. Or the chance to give you some last minute advice before you embark on your forever after with Deeks.”
Kensi chuckled wetly and swiped a finger under her eyes.
“You still think you need to worry about me and Deeks after all this time?” she asked.
“Nah, not like that. But it never hurts to have a few tips from someone who’s been where you are now,” Sam said a little more seriously. He spun Kensi gently and then pulled her back in before he continued. “Just remember that you love each other and hold onto that through all the bad stuff. It’ll be hard sometimes, especially when you’re mad as hell at each other. I have faith in you though; you guys are strong. Whatever happens, just remember that love and you’ll be alright.”
Keep smiling, keep shining
Knowing you can always count on me, for sure
That's what friends are for
For good times and bad times
I'll be on your side forever more
That's what friends are for
“Thanks, Sam,” Kensi whispered. She sucked in a shallow breath and purposely looked over his shoulder. She got a glimpse of Deeks watching them with a gentle smile.
“Oh, and if Deeks does anything really stupid, we’ll come kick his ass when you’re done with him. That’s a direct quote from G, by the way.”
“Wow, that’s so sweet. I’m sure Deeks will be pleased to hear that.” Kensi said with a sniff, glad that the serious portion of the conversation seemed to be over. Her emotions were already all over the place as it was and the last thing she needed was to turn into a sobbing mess..
“Just be glad that Deeks helped me pick the song and not G,” Sam responded with a roll of his eyes as dipped her shallowly and jerked her back up with a mischievous quirk to his mouth..
Oh and then for the times when we're apart
Well, then close your eyes and know
The words are coming from my heart
And then if you can remember
“Thanks again, Sam,” she said as the song finished.
“Love you, Kens,” he whispered. “You guys are going to do great.”
Before anyone should comment, the song,“That’s What Friends are For” by Dionne Warwick, is meant to reflect platonic love rather than romantic love. Just thought I’d throw that out there. This might also be really cheesy.
“All right, Steve, do your thing!” Darcy told her husband, hiking up the skirt of her wedding dress so he could access the decorative garter she wore on her thigh. Sam and Bucky said she should make him take it off with his teeth, but Darcy didn’t want to make it too awkward for Steve.
Steve knelt beside her, shamelessly admiring her leg, and she couldn’t help but preen a bit. She did have killer legs and Steve very much appreciated them as he’d demonstrated many times.
Instead of tugging the garter off quickly like she’d expected him too, he slowly slid it down her leg, making eye contact the entire time. His look held a promise that had her feeling warm all over and she was speechless with surprise.
There were loud catcalls and whistles from the peanut gallery, but Steve ignored them and kept up his slow and steady progress. By the time he’d finally got the garter off, Darcy was starting to sweat from the intense heat of his gaze.
“You are very, very naughty, Captain,” she whispered. “Teasing like that is just cruel. Now I want to drag you into the nearest closet and I can’t.”
Steve gave her a wink and a smirk.
“I’ll make it worth your while, sweetheart,” he promised quietly.
She watched as he walked over to the assembled men who were ready to vie for the chance to catch it, shaking her head at how Steve continued to surprise her. Being married to him was going to be quite an adventure, she knew that for sure.
Tears of grief were something Wanda Maximoff was all too well acquainted with. She’d wept for her dead parents, wept for Pietro, and wept for Vision multiple times.
Finally, on a lovely spring day, she was at least experiencing the happy kind. Her eyes had welled up as soon as she’d seen Bucky waiting for her and they overflowed during the ceremony.
They both cried throughout, voices trembling during the vows, and gently wiped each other’s tears away before sharing a very emotional kiss.
“Sorry I’m such a mess,” she apologized. “I was NOT planning on doing that.”
“You have nothing to be sorry for,” Bucky told her gently. “They’re happy tears. We should get a free pass for life after what we’ve gone through.”
She gave a watery chuckle and threw her arms around him in love and gratitude.
“I’m so used to happiness being ripped away, that I’ve been almost holding my breath the whole time,” Wanda admitted later, when they stole a moment alone.
“I know what you mean,” he replied in between kisses. “I’ve felt that too. I will not let anyone or anything take this from us.”
“Neither will I, James,” she whispered back fiercely.
