Ask me about my WIPs

Okay so I realised my list of WIPs is growing alarmingly close to 200. I've told myself I should try to write some of them, instead of starting new fics. But the list of WIPs is long. I don't know what I want to write. I always have a handful of things I'm poking at more or less actively and it's time to chose at last one WIP to get back to.

So, I looked at the list. Narrowed it down to things at least 5k long. Then skimmed through and removed everything I didn't vibe with in that moment. And yet I'm still left with so damn many choices.

I thought, "hey why not at least try to outsource the choice?" So, you know, help me pick out something. Ask about a WIP, and I'll very excitedly tell you about it. That would be very helpful because talking about the WIPs helps rekindle my own enthusiasm for them.

Anyway, here's a list of some WIPs. Yes those are the titles in my WIP folder. Yes, the premises seem to be varying levels of absurd. Idk, apparently that's what I write? Some day it'll be something serious.

Weilan

baby animals, ~5.5k, weilan

The Black Cloaked Envoy keeps showing up with baby animals all over him, like that's normal. Zhao Yunlan is charmed, everyone else is confused or vaguely horrified. No one ever says anything about it.

Gifts, ~8.2k, weilan

Vaguely supernatural AU where Shen Wei has been stalking Zhao Yunlan for a while and leaves him weaponry (mostly knives) as gifts for reasons.

ZYL time travel, ~5.3k, weilan

Post canon (I think) Zhao Yunlan time travels and finds himself an outsider to that scene where kid!Zhao Yunlan lost his dog. He decides to interfere 

acquiring ZYL, ~8k, weilan

Zhao Yunlan was kidnapped at some point when he was younger and taken to Dixing and sold into some kind of sexual slavery. A lot later Shen Wei finds him and kills everyone and takes Zhao Yunlan with him. Except Zhao Yunlan now thinks Shen Wei is his new master.

space pirate AU, ~6.1k, weilan

Shen Wei is a space pirate (really, some kind of freedom fighter) and Zhao Yunlan is stuck policing some backwater planet that Shen Wei is supposed to meet someone on. It's a trap, there's fighting, Zhao Yunlan ends up in the middle. Shen Wei kidnaps him, as you do.

Totally a dream I had. Zhao Yunlan wakes up in a strange place with temporary amnesia. He finds some weird town, and some weird people. And then there's a lake, with a dragon, that people warn him not to go close to. There's a portal at the bottom of the lake somewhere.

“And you don’t know who he is,” the Envoy said.

Zhao Yunlan reviewed their brief conversation and found no clues. “Who?”

“Exactly!” the Envoy exclaimed. “This is all wrong! I don’t understand what’s happening.”

This is such an interesting idea and it’s sweet and sad and hopeful all at the same time.

This is so good! A wonderful bit of emotional hurt/comfort dealing with the aftermath of Wu Xie’s sickness

This author has an amazing knack of repeatedly writing exactly the sorts of fics I love to read and this is no exception. There’s a load of Liu Sang and Pangzi friendship in this coupled with some fantastic hurt/comfort. I loved it.

I've been seeing this meme around a lot on dreamwidth, let me yeet it on tumblr too now that I wrote it all up. :D

How many letters of the alphabet have you used for starting a fic title? One fic per line, 'A' and 'The' do not count for 'A' and 'T'.

I'm only doing one fandom (Guardian and Guardian RPF) because I can. :D I didn't look at any art until I did all the letters, and then I added art for the two letters that didn't have fics (J and V). (And whenever there were options to choose Zhubai, I chose Zhubai, ngl. :D Many letters had 5+ fics to choose from btw, asdfhdjkl;)

I have nothing for U (I have no idea how, it's such a useful letter, and now I want to name a fic un[something] asap ;D), X (even though I've possibly started actual fics with 'Xiao Bai' or 'Xiao Wei', but not titles) and Z (I have definitely started fics with 'Zhao Yunlan' and possibly 'Zhu Yilong' too). What do you do when you fall in love with someone you shouldn’t? Do you cut and run or do you stay and fight?

I absolutely loved this. It’s a really interesting take on the characters, and everyone feels like themselves despite the fact it’s a no powers AU and Shen Wei dispenses justice via murder. If you liked Hannibal I think you’ll love this.

My biggest issue with the movie was the lack of dealing with the aftermath of everything that happens. This fixes that perfectly.
