I am experiencing Symptoms. And also Side Effects.
Another update on the ADHD meds situation. My psychiatrist says they are indeed safe to take as I feel I need them. (Even though they’re a bit too strong at 10mg)
So now I have another potential safety net that works for helping boost focus and emotional regulation. (And get through my WIP sketch pile by doing lineart!)
She said the reason I get extra weird and talk in a goofy way on them is due to my frontal lobes not being able to communicate with the rest of my brain as effectively on them. (And off them too, but I compensate well off meds!) Apparently that’s rare, but much more common in autistic people. The more you know! She also said that, even taking them intermittently, my brain may eventually find a way to compensate for the disconnect better while the meds are active. Brains are funny like that.
All and all, VERY GOOD NEWS!
And thus ends my journey of trying new meds for a while. I have two safety nets of anxiety meds and ADHD meds. I can judge which situations I need which meds for, and the rest of the time I can work really hard unmedicated (for mental health stuff, as I still have meds for a physical condition I take daily.)
I spent the last week assisting a Matilda camp and now I'm listening to the soundtrack. I was reading a Tumblr post out loud and realized I was talking in a British accent...then that I was also thinking in a British accent.
Y'all, I'm an American. I'm not British.
Hey, people with poor appetite, nausea and/or food sensory issues: what are your go-to snacks and meals? You know, to keep your body relatively nourished, that doesn’t make you gag just thinking about it?
PSA
Little PSA for people who take Synthroid or Levothyroxine.
Today, because I'm an absolute moron, or maybe just because I'm super stressed, and very tired, I accidentally took my Synthroid pill twice. I *meant* to take an allergy pill for the second medication of the morning, but I absentmindedly grabbed the Synthroid bottle instead. I threw the pill down my gullet, started chugging water, and realised my mistake. Now, I've been taking thyroid meds for 13 years, and I've never once done this. So, I was a bit worried. A google search later, and I was at least somewhat relieved that my day would just suck a bit, but I wouldn't need medical intervention.
So, the listed side effects of taking your Synthroid or Levothyroxine twice in one day are flu-like body aches, fatigue, and a racing heart. A couple hours after the accidental dose, all of those set in. Not fun, and a little more intense than I was thinking it would be - felt more like I had Covid, and the heart racing was making me a bit dizzy - but I sucked it up and headed into work. This might have been a mistake.
I teach children in an afterschool private music school. So, I was careful to let everyone know that I'd had an accidental overdose of prescription medications, but that I should be okay, and not to worry - just that I might be a touch out of it today. That was putting it mildly by about 4pm. That's when I got absolutely giddy and started having some mild visual and auditory hallucinations. Not one website stated that this might be a side effect, or I would NEVER have gone in to work, no matter how close we are to a recital day! Luckily, the worst of the hallucinatory effects happened while I was in session with teenage students, who, of course, found this freaking hilarious. Especially when I decided it would be a fantastic idea to run out of the school, into the parking lot, and dance/run around in the pouring rain.
My poor students, my poor business partner, the poor parents, and my poor employees! They all had to witness what had to be the most strange and ridiculous display of drug addled behaviour they'd seen since their college days. And not one website warned me that this could happen.
Maybe doctors have never seen this reaction before? I'm going to hope that's it, because damn! But then, that also means that I've got something weird going on with me, so I'll probably have to see my regular doctor and tell him about this.
So, TL;DR - be careful if you accidentally overdose on your prescription meds, you may not have all the information at hand, and may be in for one hell of a wild ride!!
My increased dose of LaMICtal has made my pupils do...interesting things.
Weird asthma stuff recently
Over the past week I have had a constant cough that was producing mucus, which was slightly concerning, but it was also met with a difficulty breathing which I used my rescue inhaler for. By day three the inhaler wasn’t cutting it and I had to start using my nebulizer [Albuterol Sulfate 3ml every 4-6 hours per doctors orders] (which is no fun in a college dorm when you wake the people in the room next to you at 3 am) but I’ve been getting some weird side effects or something.
Some of these include:
The cough I was trying to help suppress getting worse
After I do the nebulizer treatment when I go from looking downward with my whole head to looking anywhere above strait ahead there’s an involuntary release of air that isn’t a breath that causes a slight vocalization
Nightmares. Weird and disturbing nightmares.
And a consistent tired feeling
I’m slightly concerned about all of these since I normally only have slight irritability, a sense of paranoia, and increased heart rate. I was only able to find information about the cough and that was said to be normal but the other ones have no documentation on other medication websites and I was wondering if anyone else here withing the Tumblr asthma community has any explanations, similar stories with weird undocumented side effects, or suggestions for how to cope with this until I can get someone from my college to drive me to see a doctor.
Dang reading The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch on methotrexate day was .... An interesting choice. I had one of my hypervivid dreams last night, thankfully not as upsetting as others (like the one where I murdered a coworker and when I woke up I couldn't shake the feeling I'd actually done it) but still enervating!
I was in a hotel with a lot of other people (makes sense, I got home yesterday from chaperoning a choir tour) and kept trying to find them all, but they kept morphing into each other, and I had no idea who was who by the end. Anyway, could have been a LOT weirder considering the book and the medication.
I do think I'll read something fluffy and thoroughly not dystopian today, though. Probably PG Wodehouse.
