The World Economic Journal is unquestionably the biggest journalistic branch worldwide, but it's also easy to forget there's a lot of local papers too. Mizu Mizu News in Water 7, Totto Land News (it's mostly recipes and eligible bachelor/bachelorette postings for Big Mom's family), Blueberry Newspaper Company, Grand Line Times, News Coo printing for the New World, and who knows how many others.
Does the WEJ ever do collabs with other news outlets? Or more likely, does Morgans have a journalist rival, one-sided or otherwise?
I really wish we knew more about how the news/news circulation works in One Piece! With how heavy the weight of information (and mis-information) is its world you’d think it'd be explored more!
My interpretation is that while the WEJ reporters and photographers can cover a lot, they can’t cover everything. If a local paper's story is big enough, they offer to buy it so that more people can see it. The local papers get a fair cut, proper crediting, and a taste of what publishing in a paper that actually gets read feels like, or so Morgans would say.
Morgans would also say he has no rivals, only lessers in his peer group. He’s the one that put journalism on the map (and also made it a much more dangerous position), he’s the one that gets the accolades and attention! He’s the king of the literary castle and all other publishers are the dirty rascals living in his shadow and nipping at his heels! HE'S BIG NEWS!
(This…mentality means no other publishers want to engage with..ever. All fine by the albatross, this is why he has a plucky and charming go between like Jackie anyway.)
