having shifts as a werebeetle holothere(?) is so strange. i feel massive as my form is supposed to be, but the vessel i’m stuck in is quite small??? i’m supposed to be over seven feet tall, so it’s pretty strange. also my mandibles are heavy and my pincers make me talk funny sometimes. they get in the way while i eat too. very very weird
Werebeetle Anatomy Study: "Face Armor."
The first change in the armor of Khaji Da. It would be the part of the face, the most obvious being the two blades protruding from the chin. Not only are these to look more striking, but they protect the host from receiving blows to the jaw, as they are very sharp and can cause cuts.
But what is not known is that these blades are covered with a paralyzing poison that, when piercing the skin, comes into contact with the enemy's blood. It does not take more than 15 minutes for the poison to take effect, it does not cause pain even though the victim's body, except for the mouth and respiratory tract, is paralyzed for a couple of hours.
There are no side effects that may affect the health of the affected person, except for inflammation in the area where it was cut. Assimilating the sting of a wasp.
//I'm sorry for not being active lately, I'm in exam season and final deliveries at the university and the end of the semester is approaching. But in my free time I am working on this AU with the help of a friend.
But this doesn't mean that I'm not aware of your notes, comments and reblogs. And that's why I want to thank you for your support.
@wazzappp @sosoribro @rosefinch07 and @runeiio they were the inspiration for this Au, so I recommend that you visit their profiles and support their projects and art. I assure you that you will not regret it!.
[Finding art for this was much more difficult than I anticipated. There’s plenty of art of beetle-men out there, but most of it doesn’t get that the “horns” of a stag beetle are its jaws. Umber hulks are often depicted with big oversized mandibles, and I liked how this one looked like a humanoid jaw split down the middle. Since beetles are so diverse, there’s a lot of ways I could have taken the flavor text. “Mindlessly violent” was inspired as much by the Darwin’s beetle segment from BBC’s Life as anything else.]
Entothrope, Werebeetle
CR 5 CE Humanoid (shapechanger)
This hybrid humanoid has a tough carapace and four spindly arms, walking on two legs. A shell covers its back and partially conceals membranous wings, and its lower jaw is split in two, each moving separately and covered in oversized teeth.
Werebeetles are single mindedly devoted to their own survival. They tend to be crude and unconcerned with morality or conscience, focusing solely on feeding, breeding and protecting themselves. They have difficulty with novel situations, and violence is typically their first reflex if startled or threatened. In their hybrid forms, they rarely use weapons, preferring their savage jaws.
Werebeetles can be found among a wide variety of different types of humanoids. They tend to be found in the same habitats where beetles are—that is to say, almost anywhere. The sample werebeetle is a stag beetle, so its preferred habitats are forests and underground—a perfect place for dwarven, elven, human or troll werebeetles. Natural rivalries tend to be inflamed by the entothrope’s self-preservation instincts, and warfare between werebeetles of different base species is relatively common.

How did you find out you were a werebeetle as opposed to a regular beetle? What kind of behaviors or shifts did u experience? And what kind of beetle?
-Questioning stag beetle :3
hi, sugar! mezzanine here! i’m the werebeetle.
as soon as i formed, i was a werebeetle. i am in the headspace. i will explain what my form looks like below and add a photo too. also, as soon as i formed, the host, vandal, started having werebeetle shifts, which isn’t technically one of hys kintypes afaik. he has shifts of hys headmates kintypes often.
my shifts tend to make me feel bigger, taller, stronger physically. i feel more muscled, with thick, black fur all over my body. i have huge mandibles (or horns) on the top of my head and a thick muzzle with sharp pincers, as well as sharper, black teeth. my tail is like a centipede’s and it’s quite thick and long. it gets in the way a lot. it helps with my balance and walking, but also makes me walk weird at the same time. all these things are definitely different than any other beetle.
i also vocalize often. i chirp, click, and chitter, and sorta purr? a bit? i can only audibly purr in headspace but i hum instead when i front. very comforting to me and my headmates.
my size can change, but i am mostly quite large and tall. that’s why i say “werebeetle,” as well as for simplicity. sometimes i’m huge, sometimes i’m a smaller beetle, still with the same features.
i always knew i was stag beetle-adjacent from the start. vandal has a deep connection to them, and my features are pretty exact for that kind of beetle, besides the tail and fur. so werebeetle has been the best term for me.
Werebeetle Anatomy Study: Mouth (Warning: Blood.)
The second and most painful symptom of the DNA and beetle code linkage is teeth. As shown in the diagram, the shape of fangs and molars become sharper, assimilating the shape of canine teeth.
It is categorized as the most painful, since to acquire these teeth, they will replace the entire dentition of the host. Pushing in its entirety all the old teeth so that they can come out. Obviously, these teeth being a little sharper can cause extreme pain and discomfort.
The use of fangs can usually be reached as an effective method of intimidation or fighting. Although only in extreme cases.
Another ability in the use of such in combat is that the strength of the jaw can be compared to that of a Pitbull, since at the time of attack can cause great damage, apart from the fact that once grabbed its target, trying to struggle would be a difficult task, and even counterproductive, because the edge of the fangs can pierce the bone. And if you manage to escape the Werebeetle's bite, you run the risk of losing parts of the muscle and bleeding to death.
An interesting theory is that the fangs can be used to attract mates because they are so large and showy.
Each number corresponds to the remarkable changes in the genetic mix of the code of a beetle and a human host, and the abilities they correspond to.
1. Human eye.
Although, there is an active symbiotic relationship between the beetle and the host. There are no visible physical ocular changes. In the timeline, it is established after the events of the film.
2. Beetle Eyes.
First sign of the symptoms of the mixture of DNA and the code. The host's eyes change to a golden color as when they are with the active armor. The pupil changes color almost to white.
One of the most present abilities is night Vision, in addition to sub developing vision of the same.
The change manifests if the host feels under threat as a defense and intimidation mechanism in case of a battle.
It can also represent the change of control between Khaji da and Jaime. Thus, the Reyes family knows that they speak directly to Khaji da.
3. Fusion Eyes
A mixture of colors between the host and the beetle, representing a complete and balanced symbiosis, when acquiring this control it is easy to return to states one and two of the scheme, so as not to raise suspicions to others and avoid conflict. But these are only masks, since the true and permanent state is the third phase.
A quick claw study for a Blue Beetle Au I'm writing.
I was inspired by the awesome designs of @wazzappp and their headcanons of jaime reyes. They really sparked my imagination about my favorite character and the endless possibilities with Khaji- da and the symbiotic armor.
To mask its original shape. The werebeetle when wearing the armor of his beetle acquires an extra pair of arms and claws for an advantage in battle. Especially if the opponent exceeds him in size.
Thanks to that the werebeetle gets better resistance if it is a struggle and together with its herculean strength can lift the ten times its size.
These limbs also serve as a surprise element in battle, but they can also change the weapon characteristics of the Blue Beetle.
In addition, these in a situation of rescue or protection of civilians serve marvel. Including crashing those five and entertaining small children on the scene.
The host has full control and awareness of these arms. Unfortunately this also means that you may feel the pain if these are wounded in combat.
The arms are only present with the armor, when the host returns to its human form they disappear until the armor is used again.
