better call saul timeline question:

there is a discrepancy that did a number on my sanity in trying to write a canon-compliant mailroom-era prequel fic, season 4 episode 6 (Pinata)’s cold open. This scene can be placed unambiguously in 1993 given the Oscar pool, and Kim mentions to Chuck that she is a 3rd year law student. However, Kim is described as a 4th-year associate by Chuck in season 2, the same episode where it is mentioned Jimmy came on to D&M as a 4th year associate. This episode takes place in 2002. Kim also tells Rich Schweikart at a job interview that she was with HHM for 10 years as of August 2002, 6 years of which were spent in the mailroom. This means Kim has to have worked in the mailroom from 1992 - 1997, and as an HHM associate 1998-2002, where she quits.

This drove me SO CRAZY when trying to figure out how Jimmy and Kim’s law school educations lined up. Were they in law school at the same time? Did Kim have a multiple year head start on Jimmy? Which fact is out of place? Is there any way this makes sense? Even stretching it as much as possible, for Kim to be a third-year law student for even a single day before Oscars night in 1993, she would have to have started law school in early 1991 at the bare minimum, right? that would have to place her at HHM longer than 10 years in 2002 and she definitely wouldn’t have been a 4th year associate, not if she was in law school 1991-1996??
