CHAPTER 4: A SWING AND A MISS
Synopsis: In which, Sakusa Kiyoomi’s sister, Y/n accidentally hits her childhood friend’s teammate with a softball when their batter missed her pitch. Will this miss lead to something more? or will just end with goodbyes?
The second day of the training camp gave you an opportunity to practice your new pitch. After explaining to the team your experimental new move, they agreed to practice their batting with you. The new lineup consisted of you being the main pitcher and Mars as the main catcher. Lifting your leg as you hold the ball, intersecting both your arms and leg together for more momentum and then swinging your dominant arm to a full circle, you release the ball forcefully as it touches the end of your fingertips. The loud thud produced by the batter’s bat, signifying the success of your throw as you watch the ball fly to the other end of the field. After a few more tries, a group of guys filled your peripherals as they occupied the track oval surrounding the field. Remembering your captain’s announcement yesterday, you mentally note to yourself to be more careful when playing to avoid casualties as they jog around the oval. You delivered another powerful pitch but unfortunately, the batter failed to hit it as you watch the ball fly right at one of the guys jogging. Dropping your position, you run toward your victim as fast as you can.
“You alright man?” the grey haired twin asked. “You think I’m alright after being hit by a damn softball?” the raven haired male hissed while clutching his eye.
“Why is it called a softball when it’s not soft at all?” the blonde twin stated while rubbing his chin, “OH SHIT… I’m a philosopher” he added, earning a groan from the team.
“I’m so so so sorry” you said while crouching down to his level.
“Y/n?” you turn your head to the familiar voice that called your name. “Kita-san, hi!” you beamed at the older male standing above you. After greeting your friend, you turned toward the male clutching his eye “I really apologize. The batter failed to hit my pitch.”
“Kita-san, you know her?!?” the blonde asked while turning to his upperclassman and back to you. “Yes I do but that’s not important right now.” Kita replied.
“It’s fine. It doesn’t even hurt that much” he replied. “Hey man, don’t lie tf You’re literally tearing up right now.” the grey haired twin said. “I’m really really sorry! I’ll accompany you to the infirmary to get your eye checked. You might have a concussion from the impact of the ball” you said as you examined the male’s face.
Kita: Yes, I agree with y/n. Suna, go with her to the infirmary and get checked. The rest of us will continue the jog and wait for you here
Y/n: “Kita-san we’ll be back once everything is checked. Sorry again.” You said while bowing your head to the group standing in front of you and offered a hand to help him stand.
The walk to the infirmary was filled with awkward silence. You continue to beat yourself up mentally, letting your guilt eat you. “You really didn’t have to bring me to the infirmary, you know?” the male spoke, breaking the silence.
Y/n: “I do, since it’s my fault that you got hit in the first place. I’m Sakusa y/n by the way and yeah I’m-“
Suna: “Stop apologizing, I’ve accepted your apology the first time.” The male cut you off as he chuckled. “Suna Rintaro”
Y/n: Nice to meet you Suna. Very awkward first encounter but yeah thanks for being considerate
Suna: “Wait… Sakusa? Are you somewhat related to the Sakusa in the volleyball team?”
Upon hearing the question, it was your turn to giggle. “Yeah Kiyoomi is my older brother.” Your conversation got cut short as you reached the entrance of the infirmary.
After getting checked and making sure Suna was okay to go, the both of you headed back to the field. With a bow, you jogged back to where your team was and continued practicing.
- The Sakusa family lived in Hyogo for 7 years before moving to Tokyo
- They lived in Kita’s neighborhood, thus, making him Kiyoomi, Komori, and Y/n’s childhood friends
