There were many things my mother didn’t talk about.One thing was my father. I asked about him only a few times, and what I got was something..bad. I thought afterwards that if he didn’t need me then I did not need him.“ Nai...it’s nothing for you to concern yourself with.” She would tell me often. The war took up most of the resistance’s time.  I could entertain myself when I wasn’t in training or in lessons. I would  go off in search of things that interested me. Most of the time, it was BB-8 following me around to make sure that I wouldn’t hurt myself.  I highly believed that it was one of my “ uncles”  who had set him to follow me. Poe and Finn cared a lot about me, but, if anything I would suspect Finn. He’s always been a worrier. I liked the droid a lot,he was a fun friend to have. He would often help me find the shiny objects that littered my small room that I shared with my mother. Plenty of small,shiny trinkets that I had dug out of the ground, but the best was what mother would find. She could easier find larger things that would fit nicely into our room as odd decorations.

D’Qar and the base was home to me, and I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else.  The day was bright and sunny, and I was done with my lessons with General Organa. She was the best teacher. Though the  lessons were few in number,  I learned space diplomacy and general things to be a great leader. Today was a bit different. Everyone was acting a bit different around me today. It is my thirteenth birthday, but I wouldn’t expect everyone to be odd. I went about my normal route to get out  to explore. As soon as I was going go over the last wall separating me from my free time, I heard beeping behind me.  Slightly, I turned and I grinned when I saw BB-8 sitting there, waiting for me to pick him up. “ I should have known.” I laughed and shook my head, before picking them up and setting them on top of the ledge.” They sent you to watch over me.”  I climbed up and went over the wall,before grabbing my friend to leave on an adventure.

Balancing with my walking stick, I started off on one of my well worn paths. “ I don’t understand it, BB-8…” I paused and turned back.  “Everyone has been acting different today. I understand that it’s my birthday, but everyone is practically avoiding me!” I told them as I looked around the ground. What I got was a few reassuring beeps from the droid.  “ It is upsetting. I heard a bit of talk from them today when I left my lessons with General Organa. It was between mother and my uncles.” Sighing, I tried to push my mind to looking for something new for the room. “ She was telling then that she needed to tell me something, that I  was old enough to know now.” I bit my lip harshly, as I felt my cheeks getting a bit pink. “  They were telling her that I shouldn’t need to know. It would hurt me, and it was not needed.”  

I stopped when I saw a slight glimmer on the ground. My face broke out into a smile as I knelt and began to dig. Just as I pulled the thing out of the ground, a shadow passed overhead of me, and I heard the sirens going off. The Resistance was under attack, and I wasn’t there to help.
