As a canon shipper, implied canon shipper, and a multi shipper, I have seen a lot of disagreements about certain ships on the internet. Some for better reasons than others. But I thought it’d be about time I discuss my personal opinion on a ship that has a lot of mixed views. You can agree or disagree with my opinion on it, and I don’t mean to push my opinions onto anyone else. I just simply wish to put out my thoughts out there hoping the flames will slightly subside and try to understand each other’s perspective with no fear of judgement (unless if you shipping this ship or any other ships for awful reasons and it’s illegal or you’re supporting very toxic, dangerous, evil, and abusive behaviors within said ships).

So for today’s ship I wanna talk about is….

RadioApple

For anyone who has been a part of the Hazbin Hotel fandom, you may be familiar with the ship name “RadioApple”, or otherwise known as Alastor x Lucifer. It basically started the moment they first met where Alastor immediately didn’t like Lucifer at all and decided to push his buttons by getting closer to Charlie, and they ended up just being petty rivals with each other.

Now do I think they canonically should get together? No, not really, and I don’t think they will? 🤷‍♀️😅

Lucifer may be pansexual and Alastor is only confirmed asexual, but since it’s confirmed Alastor will be exploring his identity in future seasons, and from what’s been hinted at, he may also be canonically aroace. And people may (or might’ve already) say that Viv is too much of a coward to put him as aroace, but Viv’s plan was for people to have fun with the ship bc ngl, people can very scary about it. Have y’all not seen the extreme amount of heat from RadioApple alone?? Or even RadioStatic?? Hell, even ShadowVanilla is a whole other mess, and that became popular after RadioApple AND RadioStatic! And considering how much hate Vivziepop already has, if she took away the romantic interest of even ONE character in any project, and I mean completely remove the romance and sexual interest off of anyone, especially considering how the specific character is shipped with everyone and loved by nearly everyone in the fandom, literally everything would just be in the flames of hell. And to the people out there who believe Alastor is aroace and/or feel uncomfortable with Alastor being shipped with anyone or even involved with sexual relationships, I understand your pain as someone who (for now) sees Alastor as just asexual. I personally am okay with playing around with ships as long as it’s not weird or illegal, but what rubs me the wrong way is people will say “Asexual people can have sex too”. And yes, yes they can, though personally as an ace person myself, I do find it a bit off-putting and kinda demeans ace people who genuinely are sex-repulsed, just prefer to not have it, or even don’t feel that attraction at all. I’m not saying you can’t play around with the ships, maybe before you start putting them in scenarios that might not fit the character, just try to make sure the way it’s handled makes sense for the character, not just put together for your own image of it because at the end of the day, characters are meant to represent the people in real life whether they are humans or creatures. A lot of characters may be our comfort characters, but that’s because they show humanity that makes us feel seen, not just biased on the real human’s closed beliefs.

Anyways, I apologize for going on that whole tangent, back to RadioApple. Basically I don’t see it happening in canon because Alastor may be canonically aroace, and Lucifer is still(?) married to Lilith, but we don’t know yet where this relationship would end up whether for the better or the worse. It is implied she’ll be evil, but I have a feeling it’ll be way deeper than just that and we are in for quite the ride next season. But let’s say Lilith whether she’s evil or not decides to divorce Lucifer and their relationship did not end well, do I think RadioApple could work then? Sure! Ofc, if it were to happen in canon, it would be an enemies to lovers trope. But again, I don’t see it happening in canon—besides, we don’t even know what Alastor will do next season with him being free of his deal.

However, one argument against RadioApple I personally disagree with is “Alastor x Lucifer would be toxic”. And genuinely, if it actually happened, how would it be toxic if they were actually together instead of enemies? Enemies to lovers tropes if done right can be make great bonding scenes with the characters. Now there are many scenarios that could happen that may cause issues between the two of them, but let’s say they have a choice to be in a relationship and Lilith divorced Lucifer. I think the main spark would be if they were forced to get along (like any enemies to lovers trope) whether bc of Charlie being tired of these two’s bs, or if they would both be in danger, or imprisoned, who knows. And basically it would start as small talk where they slowly get less irritated at each other, and they eventually become frenemies with playful pranks on each other, which would then lead to showing romantic feelings towards each other, it’s basically a slow burn which does taste sweeter in my opinion. (At least that’s my personal image on RadioApple). Though sometimes the way people may put together the ship can rub people the wrong way about it, and I understand that may be why people don’t like it. If the relationship was portrayed as Alastor taking advantage of Lucifer and their relationship due to his mysterious cunning nature, then that would be a different story. It would be an interesting plot, but not something to normalize when it comes to shipping (though it could be basically toxic yaoi… just saying 😉).

But overall, I don’t think RadioApple will ever be a canon thing nor do I really want it to be depending on how the story will go, but I personally ship it outside of the canon storyline and I’m completely fine with playing around with it. I’m not saying you should ship RadioApple if you don’t want to, but maybe just be a bit nicer towards the shippers if they’re just having fun with it and at least don’t harass them for simply shipping it. And to the RadioApple shippers out there, if you’re someone who believes it will be canon, in all due respect, maybe try to be a bit open minded and look through the canon dynamic and see for yourself if it will be canon or not. But coming from a fan of the show with an attempt of an open mind, it’s okay to ship RadioApple and have fun with it, I just don’t want it to get to people’s heads and have it tarnish the perception of the show whether you love or hate RadioApple. At the end of the day, it would only work in a fanfic, so if you’re hungry for RadioApple, get to writing those fanfics. 🙂‍↕️📝📻🍎💕 (Just please understand it won’t be canon 😭🙏)

Not an anti-shipper but when it comes to how I ship personally, I am considering and sympathetic of the character's feelings. They fucking hated that fuckass bitch, wouldn't spit on them if they were on fire, why force them to be together. Imagine if someone saw you with a person who treated you like shit and went "oh yeah, these two would be amazing". That's not even enemies to lovers, they just really wanted to get rid of them like one wants to get rid of a leech. They peeled them off and you're gluing them back on. Enemies to lovers has flavor when they can somewhat match each other. The fucker you're shipping them with is holding them back. They don't want to be chained to that loser. Set them free.

This just reminded you of a ship, don't lie.
