Cuddle time!

The donkey puddings queue and position themselves for loving scratches and cuddles from their groom.

Donkeys are very social, intelligent and inquisitive by nature. They love the attention of humans and are very trusting.

If trust is sadly broken by cruelty (some rescue donkeys) they’ll be very frightened, guarded and forlorn in body language. This is very sad to behold and makes Donkey and animal lovers angry.

However, a Donkey can be loved, taught with patience, rewarded and encouraged. The donkey will read your body language and know he’s in a place of safety and love by comparison to his previous history. He’ll trust you more readily knowing this and over time he’ll trust others again.

Tommy Donkey Returns!

Featured before on Just Donkeys is the serene Tommy Donkey!

The other day I had the pleasure of visiting once again, a dear old friend, Tommy Clew.

Tommy is a white / grey medium standard. He loves his human friend Phil, and makes a beeline or diversion from his donkey duties and pals to be with Phil for cuddles - to rest his big heavy head on Phil’s shoulder. Tommy has a big soft muzzle and his wobbly bottom lip or ‘libbler’ 😂😍as I call it, slackens and wobbles when he’s content, enjoying his cuddle.

Tommy is a senior at 22 years old and is a rescue retired beach donkey. We’re all so happy he’s no longer in servitude.

THE JOY ONLY A MOTHER DONKEY COULD EVER KNOW

Life can often be undeservingly (to mankind’s shame and treatment) unjust for many donkeys in the world, however there are also wonderful people that do care, and it is those people whom are most likely to witness a very rare phenomenon that is more likely to occur when donkeys are well cared for in loving homes.

What is this miracle to which I speak? Donkey Twins! Double joy came for animal-mad Cormac Williams after his pet donkey, Tulip gave birth to twin foal sisters, 2 weeks before Christmas, named “Snow” and “Flake”.

“Flob” and “Lob” were another rare pair, now enjoying their private retirement after charming many at the donkey sanctuary.

Twins are extremely rare in donkeys, a once in a lifetime event, with no more than a few pairs known in the world, and when twins are born one is still born or usually doesn’t survive long.😓.

But the adorable twins born on the Williams’ farm are both thriving. 😍😃.

Cormac beamed: “I’m really thrilled to have them here, as twin donkeys are so unusual. They’re both healthy and hearty and full of life.”

🌸Rosebay Willow Donk🐴 aka "🔥Fireweed Donk🐴".

It’s autumn. The days are rapidly shortening. The rosebay willow herbs (Chamerion angustifolium) aka Fireweed have gone to seed leaving behind desiccated, fibrous woody stems which appeal to a browsing donkey's palate.

It should be noted that this plant is not toxic to equines or humans (used for herbal remedies, In Alaska, candies, syrups, jellies, and even ice cream are made from rosebay) and doesn't contain grayanotoxins found in ericacea and rhododendron which are highly toxic to equines.
