General Harrison’s Eggnog

At first I thought of this drink as a low-ABV eggnog cocktail. I considered that this cocktail named for President and U.S. Army general William Henry Harrison took into account the man's penchant for sobriety by using less potent liquors like wine and hard cider over brandy and rum. Then I looked at the glass size, the fact that there's no ice in this eggnog, and the directions saying to top up with either cider or dry red wine. Any way you cut it, that's a lot of wine or cider in one drink when there's only an egg and a bit of sugar in the drink. So my guess is that General Harrison made his eggnog with what he had available in an army camp. Cider or wine? Check. Eggs and sugar? Check. This was an easy nog to make considering. I chose Angry Orchard Cinnful Apple cider because cinnamon would only go along with the winter spices in this drink. I also wanted to avoid a bruit cider that would be awkwardly dry in such a rich cocktail. The effect was pretty awesome! The bubbles in the cider forced the egg foam to rise half way up the glass and force cinnamon and nutmeg scents toward your nose. Underneath is a silky but not overly rich cider nectar.

Egg Sour

The whole egg sour recipe in the New York Bartender's Guide is a brandy drink. Go figure. I'm finding that egg and brandy drinks are great if you use Copper and Kings brandy, which is strong and clean tasting. That's useful when the rest of the cocktail is so rich. The fun thing about a whole egg sour is that it is so rich and creamy as well as tart. This is an egg cocktail lover's drink. Of course freshness of ingredients really counts here. For the drink and the photo I used Andean blue eggs. You can almost see the blue tint of the shell. But a fresh and healthy chicken egg makes a big difference when a raw egg is the main ingredient in a drink.

Egg Nog (Non-Alcoholic)

For those non-drinkers this holiday season, thank goodness for Egg Nog. The spices and richness go a long way to creating a holiday feel with just simple eggs, sugar and milk. While vanilla and almond extract have some alcohol in them, only a quarter tsp. of each is pretty much a negligible portion. There's something amazing about a made-to-order Egg Nog, one that makes a single glass with only freshest ingredients. Whipped cream and nutmeg on top seem especially indulgent--which is the point, really.

#KinderJoy is back. USA banned them as a #ChokingHazard, but the #MethLabs seem to be doing better than ever. So many parents are on their cell phone 📱 all the bloody time, how’d they even know if little Baby Jane was choking to death or not. So blasé & lame 😒 they are. Well, there are 2 parts to this, sort of like #Korea. One half of the egg 🥚 has a #Toy made by Korea’s best friend, #China. The other half has, from #Poland 🇵🇱 , a sort of cream-based custard, topped w/a crunchy cocoa flavoured nugget! If you get tired of the child, stuff the #WholeEgg down its throat. Why do this half way, when #MurderOne can be your way to an #OrangeJumpSuit? #SurpriseToyInside. #WarningChokingHazard-could be any more lethal than #JoanCrawford was w/#ChristinaCrawford. My first toy was a Top, not sure 🤔 how to take all that. So far we make & eagerly distribute #LandMines & have a whole economy based on killing people in other countries & #DriveByShootings don’t get respect any more, so what’s the big deal about #ChokingToDeath? (at Safeway)
