Although a not required member in writing like angst, whump, or hurt/comfort, the whumper is a popular trope, taking the role of the character who harms and torments the whumpee.
The Classics
Creepy Whumper - The Creepy Whumper often implies noncon behind the scenes or directly. They get an unusual enjoyment out their role, going so far as to compliment, touch, or tease their whumpees. They invade whumpee's comfort in any way possible.
Intimate Whumper - The Intimate Whumper is similar to the Creepy Whumper in a lot of ways, but strangely enough have more vague intentions. They may or may not get enjoyment out this, but their violence is incredibly intimate.
Intimidating Whumper - For one reason another, whether its their power or appearance, this whumper strikes fear in those easily. They are used to intimidating others. Their reputation should do most of the work of putting whumpee in their place, but they don't mind getting their hand any dirtier.
Reluctant Whumper - This whumper has likely been forced into their situation. They don't truly want to hurt whumpee deep down, but have no other option. They've been convinced that this is the choice they should make, whether out of poor taste ideology, authoritarian command, or fear.
Whumperee/Whumper Turned Whumpee - The tides have turned for this whumper. Either they have finally fallen from their position of power, or maybe while dealing with whumpee they had a whumper of their own.
Mad Scientist Whumper - Although mad scientists alone come in many shapes and sizes, it's not uncommon to see the mad scientist whumper. They are doing this either for the love of the game, science, or morbid curiosity.
Handler Whumper - The handler in charge of a living weapon whumpee. They usually played the role in conditioning the living weapon, or selling them off to someone else. It's not uncommon for them to simply just be the handler, because living weapon whumpee has no one else.
Monster Whumper - Nonhuman whumpers are already a lot of fun to write, so why not go all in with the monster whumper. Maybe they're just a malicious creature, maybe they don't have the same human understanding of what they're doing to whumpee. Either way they're scary and monstrous.
Heroes & Villains
Supervillain Whumper - They are above even the villain whumper. Usually, their whumpee is a villain whumpee, but they aren't afraid to expand their horizons. They are worse than the villain, for they are somehow more evil than what hero is used too.
Superhero Whumper - They are above even the hero whumper, and therefor their pool of whumpees to pick from is larger. Maybe they've betrayed hero, or were always working alongside a villain. Maybe they've taken things too far with a villain whumpee. Either way they are arrogant and superficial as the very definitions of those words come.
Villain Whumper - Aren't they just doing what they always do? Why is it anything special? Well, to hero or sidekick it is, and always will be. I mean they are one of the most classic of whumpers.
Hero Whumper - Beloved and respected by the people. Very few would guess that they were up to no good, and those who figured it out may not always fault them for it. They pretending to be something they're not, and the world is falling for it.
Leader Whumper - They are stern, controlling, and their rigid expectations have moved beyond harmful. Their team is both their team and their whumpees.
Sidekick Whumper - Are they betraying hero through this? Or are they simply getting their much needed vengeance? The sidekick is an underestimated whumper. They are the least expected.
But Also... The Less Common
Happy Go Lucky Whumper - Whumper is the jolly sunshine type. They go everywhere with a smile (and closed eyes trope anybody?). No one would suspect what they were doing behind the scenes.
Manipulative Whumper - This whumper is cunning with their words and intentions. They plan to leave whumpee questioning themselves. People don't expect them, because they're good manipulating those around them, making an easy facade for whumper.
Distant Whumper - Despite everything they do to whumpee they act distantly and detached the entire time. They barely share whumpee a word, better yet a stare that matters, and does their violent work silently. Whumpee can only wonder what's going on in this whumper's head.
Parental Whumper - There's nothing worse than having an abusive parent, and parental whumper is the representative of that pain. Either they are a partial guide/guardian to whumpee, or just genuinely whumpee's parent. There's a lot to unpack here, and poor whumpee is the one who has to unpack eventually.
Accidental Whumper - They didn't intend to become or do this, but it's already too late. Will whumpee ever forgive them?
Carewhumper - They are simultaneously a caretaker and whumper, but does who they were first really matter? They're playing with whumpee's mind. Kind and caring one moment, and manhandling them the next.
Gorgeous master--victim has an attraction to them when they're not actively getting hurt. And then whumper flips up their cane and whumpee snaps back to reality like "wtf was I thinking--this person is evil!"
Intellectual-- doesn't give enough fucks to be cruel or kind. They find whumpee interesting, listen intently to whumpee plead, then tell their subordinates to tie the gag back on and take them away.
Accidental Bond--whumper connects to whumpee secretly while trying to stay aloof (you're just a hostage/weapon/POW). But that would look bad. So they start protecting them from the others, but the whole time they degrading and hurt whumpee in front of the other whumpers, treat them just as badly or worse than the other whumpees... And whumpee can't be sure which side of them is fake.
Emotional Sadist--Whumper emotionally connects with victim. But then, whumper leans in, making eye contact, and instead of sympathy, they just purse their lips slightly, eyes moving down whumpee's face and trembling body. They absorb victim's pained state. They whisper calmly, "ask again, whumpee. On your knees this time."
Angry whumper--shoving and manhandling victim even if they're cooperating. Slapping them before they even finish a sentence because it's more satisfying to make them break off mid-sentence. Going into rages and just pummeling whumpee's body. Making sure victim will be there and waiting whenever whumper needs to burn off some fumes.
Tell me if you write or like whumpers like these! I love hearing about other people's ocs!
When Whumper was called by 2Whumper, he was sure it was to see the new captives he caught, maybe help him move them. Expecting another animal that had yet to be slaughtered.
What Whumper didn't expect was to see his sibling's face among all the captured, recognising it immediately—hell how could he not? It was engraved in his soul and hidden in the darkest corners of his mind, trying to be forgotten.
After many years of no contact, seeing his sibling again felt surreal. That until he heard the altogether strange and familiar voice escaping from their bloody mouth that broke the illusion of a dream, a nightmare.
currently thinking about a universe where having your own whumpee(s) is like. a widespread thing. and i want to dump my train of thought somewhere so here you go
stronger/more durable whumpees are worth more because they last longer — maybe they’re used as lab rats for whumper to test a new torture device or weapon
on the other side of the spectrum, weaker whumpees are worth less — maybe they’re usually bought in bulk
whumpees being bought and given to family members as gifts during the holidays (like a dog — pet whump possibilities??)
“buy one, get one free”
“handcuffs/weapon(s) not included”
online quizzes telling you what kind of whumpee would be best for you (again, like a dog)
immortal/super-powered whumpees being auctioned off (i have the mental image of whumpee being in a cage in front of a crowd like in that one jurassic park movie idk)
whumpers trading whumpees
whumpees being used as currency; whumpers exchanging whumpees for food/resources/weapons
whumpees being labeled as “new” or “used”
whumpers complaining to each other about how much weapons/handcuffs/etc cost now because of how many people are using them
