Whumpril 2026 Day 9: Tremors

This one is incredibly short, but I hope you like it all the same!

Whumpee’s hands shook as they tried to align their phone’s charging port with the charger itself. For the third time in a row, they missed, scratching up the surface of the device.

“Great, now the cops are gonna think I’m an alcoholic,” Whumpee slurred.

They had only had the one drink, and it wasn’t even a big drink. Children in Germany probably drank more than what they had tonight. Even so, Whumpee felt incredibly unwell just minutes after finishing it. It was so bad that they had had to go to their cabin early.

A gentle knock on the cabin door.

“Whumpee, are you okay?” Caretaker called.

They finally got their phone plugged in. Sweet success! Their victory was quite short-lived though as they collapsed on their way to open the door.

“Whumpee!?”

“S’alright,” they mumbled.

The door was thrown open and Caretaker rushed to their side.

“What happened? Are you seasick?” their lover asked.

“I don’t get seasick… I don’t think…”

“What did you eat tonight?”

“I don’t know, I think I had a hamburger and those fancy French fries.”

“Only you would go on a cruise and order a hamburger with fries…”

Whumpee’s tremors spread from their hands to the rest of their body.

“Do they have doctors on cruise liners?”

“We’re gonna find out,” Caretaker said, hoisting them up.

They called for room service on the little phone on the nightstand. As it rang, Whumpee lay limply on the bed, an arm over their eyes and redness creeping into their face.

“Okay, thank you.”

Caretaker sighed.

“Come on, Whumpee, we’re going to the medical bay,” they said.

They went to grab Whumpee again, but recoiled, as though their skin had touched something foreign or unnatural.

“What?” Whumpee asked.

“You’re burning up,” Caretaker said, “you were fine a minute ago…”

“Hm.”

Caretaker helped them up. They draped a blanket around their shoulders, then started to walk them to the clinic onboard the ship.

Whumper watched this go down from their cabin door, which they had opened just a tiny crack. Poor little Whumpee. What would Caretaker do when they realized only Whumper had the antidote?

"Hello, Captain. I hope you're feeling a little more cooperative today."

Captain Angxing lifted his head as the cell door swung open. Commander Gyu-Ri stepped inside, flanked by two of her soldiers. All three stood tall and stiff, keeping their eyes on the helmeted man as he rose to his feet.

"I said what I said. I won't turn my back on Lady Nova" he said firmly, his eyes burning hatefully behind his cracked visor, "I'll die before giving anything up."

The commander's boots clacked against the metal floor and she stood before Angxing.

"I don't like getting my hands dirty, Captain. But if it comes to that, I will not hesitate to use every tool at my disposal to get what I want. And so, I will ask again."

She leaned forward so her face was level with his. He could feel her steely gaze piercing through her shades, his visor, and directly into his mind.

"Where is the Spacetime Hotel?"

Angxing took a quiet breath and clenched his fists. He knew that the second the Spacetime Hotel's location was revealed, reality itself would be at risk. Gyu-Ri would tamper with that vast pocket dimension and use it against Si'ha Nova and The Traveler. The commander had legions of flowologists at her disposal, and Selios only knew what she would be capable of if she gained access to that place.

He held her stare, funnelling all his training into remaining calm. If he was going to perish in here, then he would perish keeping his queen safe.

After a minute of stifling silence, Gyu-Ri sent a nod towards her two soldiers. Immediately, they stepped forward and grabbed Angxing's arms. He gave a token protest and pulled against their grip, but he may as well have fought against iron chains.

"Take him to interrogation." she said curtly. She left the cell, with Angxing not far behind.

"Where are you taking me?!" he snapped, "You're wasting your time. I'm not going to tell you anything!"

"And you're wasting your breath." Gyu-Ri replied without looking back, "You'll be needing it for what we have planned for you."
