This was mostly an excercise in using up leftover paint
reminder <3
Thereâs this ask reddit post about your weirdest childhood and the story is about this guy who was playing in the woods by a creek with his friend when a guy in full late 1800s formal clothing including a top hat just walked out of the forest, said âHello boys!â and kept walking. This is why I want historical clothing so badly. The ultimate prank.
give someone something to think about for the rest of their life
be the ghost encounter YOU want to see in this world
if youâre a pagan and you feel uncomfortable celebrating beltane because of its meanings and associations with fertility and sexuality, then you donât have to celebrate it. if you feel like you donât want to miss out on a festival, celebrate it as the acknowledgement of the turn of the wheel, the welcoming of the middle of spring. celebrate your relationships with your deities. your mental health should always come before your religion and/or your witchcraft, so you do you. never put yourself in a potentially triggering position just for the sake of being a ârealâ pagan/witch. if you worship deities and feel like youâre letting them down, know that theyâll be happier if youâre looking after yourself.

What witchcraft shows think I want: everything is spooky and morally conflicted.. I wanna be a good girl but.. Iâve done magic and thatâs selfish, so now the hot guy finally likes me but he likes me too much what will I do?? The magic is too much for me to handle!! but really, I am a goddess ;) The sacred feminine.. I feel the magic, coming from my ~woooomb~. But I am also still a good girl abiding by christian standards of morality.. But I am also still very sexy and do bad magic, though I hate it! But itâs all to get the guys attention. Lots of sex scenes, nudity and blood, Cause itâs edgy~ and dark
What witchcraft shows I want: Hilda but a slightly more grown up version please I am BEGGING YOU
MOOD THO!!
wait your tags!!
#also like #no more witchcraft vs voodoo crap #literally do not have to pit them against eachother #ESP when making voodoo the *bad* magick #like pls stop #literally want a hilda but more grown up
UGHHH I hate that too and it was always so blatantly racist as theyâd make sure the voodoo side would always lose or have to join the white witchy side to win but in a surrendering way and its disgusting.Â
I am so pleased with this new season of Hilda and I always appreciated the casual diversity that has a handful of characters of color just seamlessly sprinkled throughout and there are some lovely black witch characters with no weird agenda and the depiction of magic with the spirits of nature, itâs cycles and animism is sooo on point?!?!?! Itâs like watching this show you feel like some story writers are in the know cause so much of their adventures reminds me of magical experiences Iâve had.Â
Like it shocks me when the production teams for The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina or The Craft remake talk about having witches on their team to supervise the story telling or whatever cause you watch their bullshit and you are so confused and the depiction of magic and folklore is soo off and bastardized into this evil thing but watching Hilda you KNOW there is some bioregional animist witches or pagans working in the background like that Yule episode was so enchanting how it captured the magic and mischievousness of winter solstice.
And honestly thatâs all we want!! Stop telling witchy stories from the point of view that itâs morally corrupt!! Or itâs all to get some guyâs attention!! Or its some white feminist empowerment story where women are unlocking some potentially dangerous power that men have always feared because maybe itâs women who are truly superior, but of course more superior than women of color in their other magical forms that the white witches will inevitably triumph over. (And in their quest to make it about gender they completely forget about everyone else not in the binary and exclude trans people which have played a role in magical history and practices for EVER lol like I am tired of their presence being ignored too).
Like I am tired of the power struggles and the edginess and the ~dark forces~ like we need more Hilda witch shows with like witches from different bioregions working with magic and spirits of nature from like the desert realms, the woodlands, the tropics and finding harmony with nature and building meaningful bonds and achieving spiritual expansion. Please.Â
All! Of these! Points!! Exactly!!
And like, its so refreshing to have magic being treated as a neutral force in Hilda. The biggest example of this is the tide mice spell. The language used in referring to it isnt labeling as something evil or dark arts, but as âoh crap i didnt think this through, i didnt intend to steal souls!â Even in the case of raising the dead it wasnt evil or âsatanisticâ the ghosts were treated as people (i mean, cause they are). More often than not portraying witches in media involves âlightâ and âdarkâ magic as a baseline when really its a big grey area. Magic conducted no matter with what intentions can have positive and/or negative consequences (depending on what u beleive in, im a beginner so im still learning stuff abt other practices). I think this show does a good job showing the importance of thinking things through and the result of not doing full research.
I also appreciate how studying and practicing magick is most emphasized than actually doing the magick. Study and experamentation is a HUGE part of the Craft and while stuff like Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Wizards of Waverly Place kinda went over it but i feel like Hilda actually SHOWED and emphasized how important it is. And its something gone over and over again. Often in many magic centered shows the magick performed by spell casters is reletively divorced from nature and stuff while Hilda shows that theres magick In Nature and thats where alot of power comes from!
Also!!! The way Hilda commentates the impact that humans have on the world around them is SO good! The misconceptions that people of trollberg have on magical beings is founded on the fact that no one actually knows very much abt the creatures they share spaces with. This is especially so with this second season!
Theres more i want to say but brain isnt working rn :v i just really love the world building in Hilda and im excited for the third season!
OH MY GOD You brought up some amazing points like I loved the way they depicted magic as a neutral force!! Even when there was magic that was selfishly done like Tidy in The Fifty Year Night episode, its more about upsetting the balance of nature but not like the forces are coming for you cause you did some great evil. They just have to rebalance it out to fix the mistake. And I LOVE the depictions of ghosts, in this odd way itâs healing, cause like ghosts often stick behind cause their souls canât rest but they find ways to bring balance to them too.Â
AND YESS I FUCKING HATE HOW SO MANY WITCHCRAFT MEDIA DIVORCES MAGIC FROM NATURE LIKE WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT ABOUT?! In those shows they could be obsessed with worshipping some ancient god or demon for a boost of power but completely disregard nature. It reminds me of christian influences how the church would tell people that there is only 1 source of power and itâs from them and nothing else, and that idea is embedded into the foundation of modern western culture so it seeps itâs way into modern witchcraft stories and itâs irritating. I think it also negatively influenced this witchy wave with crapitalism involved cause so many new witches feel like they need to buy stuff that will bring them closer to some true source of power or make whatever spirit theyâve devoted themselves to happy but itâs like NOO THE MAGIC IS OUT THERE IN NATURE AROUND US!!!Â
And your last point I looove that. I love how there is magic in the city especially with the Nisse and the Rat King. When Hilda moves to the city the magic doesnât stop it just changes and moves with the world the humans created. It also echoes the truth that though humans forget, we are still apart of nature and we impact nature daily as nature impacts us. I love how magic gets tied into it because instead of another witchy power grab Hilda and her friends just try to bring balance and harmony and as they help out spirits hey help out people too (and sometimes vice versa).Â
Also I saw your tags again and I will check out The Owl House!! Thanks!
Ok but⌠youâre a grown ass person, who says you CANâT watch Hilda?
No one said this. Like we are all clearly watching hilda lol.
I just would appreciate a more âmatureâ witchcraft show thatâs for once not dark and edgy but is basically the same vibe as hilda
