Whumpmas in July 2024 - Day 7 - Post a link to your favorite whump fic of all time!

This post is part of my participation in the 2024 @whumpmasinjuly event!

Ah, it's hard to pick a favorite! Here are a few that I really enjoyed:

Gallery AU (Keith and Shiro from VLD fanfic) by @trytofocus - Keith is a prisoner in a secret, highly prestigious gallery where subjects are displayed in all manners of artful bondage for the entertainment of rich patrons. Shiro is one such patron. And he isn't nice. (Be warned that this fic is 18+, as it contains adult elements and themes, and is NSFW) Why I love it: God, the mental images are SO GOOD. The way that Keith is treated as a living, breathing, unwilling art piece... the emotions, the way things are described, the care and reverence taken in tying him up and putting him on display, the way that Shiro appreciates him, the attitude that Keith gives... It's so freaking good, and it gives me crazy whumperflies. I wish there was more!

Death Valley (also on AO3) by @ashintheairlikesnow - In 2003, Finn Schneider left Germany for a month-long planned trip around the United States. Somewhere around Death Valley, he disappeared. But he wasn't alone. (Be warned that this fic is 18+, as it contains noncon, murder, and is NSFW) Why I love it: This was the second whump fic that I ever read, and it was integral in getting me into the whumpsphere! I feel SO SO SO bad for Finn, what he goes through, and how he is in his future. It's one of those stories that makes me go "OH NO BB LET ME FIX IT FOR YOU ;A;" but this poor guy has seen and been through far too much. It's brutal. Even the flash forward has me on the edge of my seat and only wanting the best for him. I hope this poor man finds love, joy, and peace.

Brother's Keeper by @darkthingshappen - Ben Adkins' life changes forever when his brother Jake fails to pay what is owed to some powerful men. Will he be able to survive his harrowing experience and return to his family? (Be warned that this fic is 18+, as it contains explicit noncon and is NSFW) Why I love it: Phew, this one is intense! It's one of those fics that made me go "OH DAMN." a lot. I actually had to read this one out of order a bit because (spoilers) thereʻs a recovery arc... followed by a recapture arc. I had to save some of the recovery arc to read when things got too tough and I needed some joy for the characters, because GEEZ. Poor Ben!! Poor Jake! Poor Andrei! Volkov and his guys are sick SOBs and just merciless. Itʻs so whumpy. I had to skip a chapter or two due to some of my own personal squicks, but other than that, if youʻre looking for some guys having a super bad time, this is a great fic for that!

King of The Road by @darkthingshappen - George and Danny find themselves in the hands of a very sick and twisted trucker. What will happen to them as his newest victims? (Be warned that this is fic 18+, as it contains explicit noncon and is NSFW) Why I love it: The trucker is horrible!! An absolutely evil vile terrible sick guy!!! I have to know what happens to George and Danny! Thereʻs not much of the fic yet, but Iʻm frothing at the mouth waiting for more. The brutality is so whumperiffic, and I already desperately want to save them, so you know things are on a good track!

Secrecy by @doomeddestination - A young spy is captured by a mysterious man known only as Shepard. (Be warned that this fic is 18+, as it contains explicit noncon and is NSFW) Why I love it: Calico is such a great writer, and her dedication to her stories and characters is INSANE. This story was the first one of hers that I read, and it introduced me to Ander, who is another character that I simply wish to wrap in a blanket and give tea to and take care of forever. This poor guy just needs a break. Shepard is awful, and the suspense in the story is so great. Thereʻs a whole multitude of AUs and stories that contain these characters as well, so lots of stuff to check out! ... ... ... If Ander never gets to canonically see his mom again, I will riot in the streets. LET A GOOD THING HAPPEN TO HIM.

The Mountain Man by @darkthingshappen - A kidnapper has his sights on a hockey player and sets a plan into motion to get him into his clutches. Why I love it: Getting into the head of the whumper as he stalked and planed his capture was so cool. I loved the confusion and delirium that the hockey player showed, especially when things started to get scary. I think this story was meant to be a one-shot, but Iʻd gladly dig into more of it if it got continued!

Hazel's story by @starrywhump - A group of college students is kidnapped by a sadistic whumper who has no qualms about torturing them. Why I love it: This was the FIRST whump fic I ever found and read! I wouldnʻt be in the community now if not for this fic. I have no idea how I stumbled across it, but Iʻm so glad I did, because it introduced me to whump lingo, whump blogs, and this whole crazy world. I love the characters, the whumper is creepy and intimate, and some of what she does is just nasty and brutal. I donʻt know what happened to the author (the blog hasnʻt been updated in like three years), but I hope that theyʻre happy and doing well wherever they are. I love the fic, and would love to read more if they ever decided to continue!

There are so so so many other great fics out there, but these are just the few that come to mind off the top of my head! Any other fans of these stories out there? :O

🔥 Bahkauv by @deluxewhump - Three friends traveling to the city stop off at a hunters camp to purchase a vampire for one of them to research at the university he will be attending. They purchase something a little different instead. (monster/vampire-adjacent whumpee, rescue/recovery, caretaker new master, burns, torture)

🧙‍♀️ Demon's Haven by @whumpwillow - Summoning demons for requests with a price far less expensive than one’s undying soul is common practice for witches, especially those who practice dark magic. Haven just wants to unlock a grimoire she found with the help of demonic magic, yet she ends up not in a battle of wits and wills but comforting a tortured and traumatized demon. (demon whumpee, rescue/recovery, desperate begging whumpee, accidental whump, caretaking)

💔 Shattered by @oddsconvert - Years of being held captive, under the vampires brutal persusasion has finally broken Declan, shattered his mind. Not living but not quite dead, paralysed in a comatose-like state. Vince decides his once delicious bloodbag has finally reached its end, selling it during it’s final few days. When August sees the advert for the dying human, he knows what he must do. Taking on the responsibility of nursing Declan back to health - though he is woefully unprepared for just how deep and severe the damage is and the hardships that will arise whilst tackling it. (vampire whumper, vampire caretaker, rescue/recovery, caretaker new master, recovery from mind control)

🧟‍♀️ Part of You by @sowhumpshaped - I’ve been thinking about it a lot. About whether I could do it. At the end of the day, there’s really no other alternative. Gena is my responsibility, and I’ll do everything to keep her safe and fed. (undead whumpee, cannibalism, lab whump, gore/dismemberment, tragedy)

⚰️ Another Path (BG3 fanfic) by @asidian - Astarion has spent two hundred years waiting for a hero to come. It isn't the foolish sort of idle dreaming that one reads about in adventure tales, no – he doesn't moon about in picturesque arched windows, pressing his hand to his chest and sighing. But he does hope sometimes, furtive and distantly yearning, in the same way he still prays to gods who never listen, every now and again. (vampire whumpee, rescue/recovery, starvation, caretaking, whumpee x caretaker)

well, i could not possibly just choose a single favorite whump fic from this beautiful community, so i took this prompt's suggestion of making a list! 💖💖💖😍😍😍 (NOTE: please mind these stories' requisite CW's, as some of the content is both good and rough)

@much-ado-about-whumping's entire gorgeous Déomas and Rhys series about my beloved Déomas Overbridge is eternally bookmarked in my soul but this installment - Déomas Settles In - really seized me by the throat and never let go 💔😍😭💖

@whumpzone's heartwarming and wrenching Thomas and Rowe series lives in my heart fondly and there's something about the beautiful and haunting final chapter - Thomas and Rowe: The End - that has lived in my head rent-free for years now 😍💖😢

@whump-tr0pes's Honor Bound series is, of course, a community classic and i would die for each and every one of them, with this installment from Honor Bound 5 - Honor Bound 5: 32 (Verbal Abuse) - being a constant reread for me simply due to how utterly devastating "hallucination of loved one saying your worst fears about yourself" is depicted here 😭😭😭

@haro-whumps's Group Whumpees series will always be close to my heart, for all of their characters are my beloveds, and one piece from that series is this chapter - Group Whumpees 6: Breaking Point - because i love me a good devastating misunderstanding that results in a breakdown! 😈🥰🥺

@whumping-every-day, absent but never forgotten, first got me into writing vampire whump with her gloriously brutal Ash and Callum series, of which, this piece - Vampire Whump: New Beginnings - is a favorite still 😰😈🥺

@ashintheairlikesnow, the patron god of whump, has too many iconic pieces in the BBU canon to name here, but the piece where Kauri (my beloved) attempts to write poetry again post-mind-wipe reached directly into my chest in a way very few pieces of writing in recent memory have been able to do, heartbreak and healing hand in hand 💔💔🥺🥺💖💖

7. Post a link to your favorite whump fic of all time!

I've been absolutely in love with @whumpsday K+J series for years now. (Below is their description from the masterlist)

"Jim had lived as the prisoner of a cruel vampire for years, forced to provide blood for his insatiable appetite, before finally escaping. A decade has passed since then, when he hears word of a vampire in the custody of a group of hunters matching the description of his former captor, Kane. Wanting closure, he negotiates to have custody of Kane transferred to himself. But when he finally lays eyes on the vampire, it’s like he’s a complete stranger: A sobbing mess begging for mercy, not the arrogant man he once knew."

More recently I got into 006 by @sowhumpshaped, its writing is so good!! Living weapon whump, lots of hurt and comfort, very well written (in my opinion, I love it very much!)

Whumpmas in July: Day Seven

Favorite Whump Fics

Bold of you to think I can choose just one. Also, some of these are series, so beware: you might get tricked into reading twenty chapters, one after the other, for a couple hours straight. I speak from personal experience.

Little Fox- series by @painsandconfusion that I absolutely adore. The characters are so squishable, and the writing gives me whumperflies every time I read.

A Healers Hands- this short one-shot written by @whump-in-the-closet makes me soooo happy. One of my favorite short form whump fics I've read.

Whumping the Whumpers- another @painsandconfusion series, soooo good. Absolutely amazing. Nate and Ethan will forever be my favorite whump duo.

Brothers Keeper- this series, written by @darkthingshappen, is absolutely amazing. It's one of the heaviest fics I've read, and it never ceases to impress me. Heed the content warnings and enjoy the beautifully written agony.

Day 7 || Favorite Whump Fic

I have so many favorite whump fics, it's hard. So I will just pick one of those.

@just-horrible-things Just Acting.

A story about (amateur?) spies, assassins and a conspiracy, told mostly from the perspective of someone, who is very observant, yet can't make a lot of sense about it.

Smith is an intriguing and engrossing pov, Gil is so weird, Liv is the love of my life (and also weird), and this every character other character, too, feel so real and interesting. In the current act, there's a new (undeniably hot) character, who I can't wait to learn everything about.

Everyone in that story is just acting, we just don't know how much. This story is a rollercoaster, funny and brutal and elegant at the some time, and I adore it.

Kane and Jim by @whumpsday I love how their relationship develops in the present arc!

Ruler and Empress by @tendertenebrosity Lian makes me cry…🥺

Idalis’s story by @secretwhumplair Idalis and Casio are so tender with each other…♥️

Demon’s Haven by @whumpwillow Envy’s and Haven’s characters are so well written!

Sun and Glass by @whumpflash This one I loved enough to write a spinoff of it. Rena and Caelon are just…I can’t get them out of my head.
