I have an idea for what I want to try drawing next in the big sketchbook (no spoilers in case it doesn't end up turning out), but for after that, what should I draw next?
CHOOSE:
Finish the janky sketch of R'aahs in the spiral sketchbook
Index card drawing of Padaka (the Calico Caitian Pilot)
Big sketchbook drawing of Wilvous
Big sketchbook drawing of Aerelai
Big sketchbook drawing of Bhea and Muna together
''you should draw my oc instead'' (fine but give me pics/good description)
[two of my ocs scenario idea] (submit your idea in comments/rb, no promises)
Stop being a coward and draw Vasilios' index card pic
Voting ended onMay 4
(I draw people I haven't drawn before on index cards first so people can sit next to each other bc obviously I don't have any little Playmates style action figures of any of these guys (gn) </3) I'm perfectly willing to draw y'alls Ocs out of love/for practice but the quality is ✨debatable✨.
(also I'm fr so so scared to try and draw captain Vasilios, I can picture her, but I'm worried I can't do her proper justice at my skill level :/ )
For any 2 OCs -- ☕ americano – what’s their brutally honest opinion about something that can go for hours?
Yay, a surprise order!!! :)
R'aahs has decidedly strong opinions on different kinds of weaponry and the best ways to maintain them! He only got to start actually using it at all once he was older and had started to take on jobs off-planet, so he used to sort of jump at the chance to use anything other than brute force, but after getting experience and developing techniques beyond just imitating what he'd seen he became a bit of an aficionado and loves to talk about them and show them off!
Wilvous would, if he ever got the confidence, have arguments with other Tellarite artists about paint ingredient gradients and the texture qualities they instill that would borderline come to blows!
I think Nausicaans tend to have a kind of (borderline literal) pecking order within their social structures (pain an injury are games to them, and, I would think, points of communication as well depending upon what degree is permissible to inflict and/or return) and while ofc the exact dynamic would never be permissible aboard a Starfleet vessel I do think R'aahs probably has a rough structure of one that fits within a species cultural variance permissable overlap aboard an already atypical vessel:
Head tier is Captain Céline Vasilios; Full superior no question. She defeated him in combat upon their meeting but chose to spare him and incorporate him into her crew. She is in full command and anything less than full cooperation from him would be a disgusting offence. Too high above for any form of playful behavior.
Second tier is interesting in that they're all roughly of equal authority to his mind within a social hierarchy (though he does recognize the difference within the technical structure of command).
Kirev, moreso from a standpoint of getting to act/speak on behalf of the captain, though he does have some degree of unexpected physical strength due to Aenar physiology. Might give him a tap with his cane, but R'aahs recognizes this is a deliberate act of congeniality towards him. He may be more actively friendly towards him than he may be to the captain, but recognizes him as too far of a superior to be fully friendly towards
Toka: Considers him his most direct superior within his immediate day to day interaction. Toka is fairly willing to use a bit of physical directive with R'aahs given their notable difference of size, and not always with as friendly of an intention as R'aahs takes it, but it does actually ultimately serve fairly well to denote an authority while maintaining a decent sense of camaraderie to him (which eventually evolves into a more genuine one on Toka's part as well)
Doctor D'Hrava: superior, stronger, but enjoys a bit of playful roughhouse in casual social settings. She won't hesitate to put him back in his place if he gets too rough, but they can have a bit of a back and forth dynamic with it.
Third tier is kind of separate, with those who aren't quite as high ranking technically, but he isn't about to fuck around with them. He likes when he can be friendly with them, but that's fully at their discretion.
T'pril: (and Tbf he takes that kind of approach towards most Vulcans unless he knows them really well because their limits are harder to read). She doesn't really interact with him much beyond directives and brief interactions in the mess hall, where he is polite and subdued.
Aerelai: A bit different in that they're friends, but he'll give them a wide birth when they're angry or the minute he gets the idea he's crossed a line with them. They don't ever really physically strike but they will let forth a small neural pulse when those things happen and it's a much scarier little "back the fuck off".
Fourth tier is about level with him though it can vary just a little situationally. Friendliest tier overall:
Muna. She knew about Nausicaans when she met him and ran over his foot with her powerchair, then later shared some of her lunch with him (another indicator, in that resources are shared with those below you, taken by above). She'll give him a friendly swat sometimes that he can return lightly.
Wilvous. (seemingly) stayed stoic and (accidentally) cut his face pretty badly with one of his tusks the first time he met him.
Himself! :)
Bhea. His best friend right after Muna! She's pretty sturdy, They get into a lot of hijinks together and playfight. He's ultimately stronger than her but she'll put up a really good fight and recognizes that he's being friendly doing it! Sometimes they share the braincell.
Fifth tier is specifically under him, can push them around a little bit and they can't take his stuff (they very much don't try, but regardless they can't), but it also means they're deliberately under his scope of protection barring Weird Shit Happening or something.
[Arachnid Xenoanthropologist] (she actually could be a lot more dangerous if she chose to be, but use of venom is highly taboo and is only to be done in outright peril, so she's fine letting him see her as this level). He doesn't have much cause to interact with her, but letting her remain largely unchallenged while still on a protective tier is an attempt of a sort to respect her privacy while still seeing through his worldview filter.
[Bajoran/Cardassian engineer]. He likes them, thinks they're very smart and (with him) scrappy. They sometimes try and rise up a teir when they'll play around with him, but largely he just views it as cute that they try and stays protective of them
Ceicive. He threw Ceicive across sickbay the first time he met him. In all fairness he was having a really bad time medically and thanked the sickbay team afterwards. He and Ceicive are friends now; he was mildly concussed, but not really angry about it. He thinks of Ceicive as extremely sweet, patient, and fragile tbh.
Ryn. Withdrawn, skittish, still getting used to the new adaptive equipment, prone to a freeze response and only ever actually tries to fight back when he's extremely stressed and it's clear even to R'aahs that if it gets to that point it is way too far. Tries to help him feel safer but isn't always very good at it. (Has "guarded" him during panic attacks before though and that actually was helpful <3)
[I'll probably edit and add new people to the list as I come up with them, but this is as current a version as I have of the crew!]
Who would enjoy baking with Spark? What recipes would they be interested in trying/would they want to teach Spark?
Who would have the most fun on an extended (like a week plus) camping/hunting/Fishing trip with Spark and Micah?
Does Toka ever miss being around other Ferengi?
Do you think Ryn and Liz would get along? If she invited him to a sip and paint night, would he come? Would he have fun?
@sparklylovegiver Awwww loooooook!!!! Our little guys!!! (gn) :D and they're such good questions!!!!
(edit that is SLG they hit anon by mistake, still keeping it XD)
Very long so it's going under the readmore :)
Who would enjoy baking with Spark? What recipes would they be interested in trying/would they want to teach Spark?
Ok honestly: There are many who would I think!!!
R'aahs: I've mentioned it before, but (in my headcanon) bread for Nausicaans is actually kind of rare and making it is a very special practice culturally (cooking in general versus eating things raw and quickly is a very big marker of connection, resources, and unit trust, and *especially* in regards to baking that bread because it takes the most resources and time), so he'd definitely want to show them how to make it after he gets to know them and learns that bread is important to them culturally (albeit in a different way).
(it's made of a paste of ground bones retained from hunting along with their marrow mixed with boiling water, soil*, and variably fruits, root pastes, and/or animal fat is combined, shaped into rolls/pats, then steamed over hot spring/geyser vents)
*(Nausicaa's soil differs in quality depending upon the area and its ecology, but is often used culinarily as a seasoning or supplement due to its mineral, saline, acidity, and/or nutrient content. Nausicaans can often smell the difference of quality and content and will utilize it or not accordingly. It is very common for the soil to be slightly volcanic and rich due to a rapid degree of ecological life cycles and predator/prey interplay, making many plants grow quickly despite harsh conditions.)
Him baking other stuff with them would probably descend into chaos (Nausicaan food tends to be... hardier than most), but he'd do his best and would have fun so I hope they would too! I don't think he really likes sweet things overall, so he'd maybe like their more savory pastries like sausage rolls or (if they know how to do them) something like meat packed Bao buns (because while the Nausicaan bread doesn't have the same texture it is cooked through steaming so he'd like that about it)
Muna: Muna would looooooooooooveeeee learning about (and trying) anything Spark wanted to make! She'd also probably also ask to try one of the more traditional Otel breads even though they're bland by a lot of culture's standards just because she'd view it as a window to that culture (if Spark was comfortable with that). There's probably not a lot of baked things from Luria for her to show them in that most of the sweeter things there are made with aquatic melons, but she'd maybe suggest making a syrup from those melons and incorporating it into a sweet bread like one might would with applesauce (Muna likes sweet soft things a lot!). Since Spark doesn't really tend to like sweet things Muna would also probably show them a savory thing that's sort of like a shrimp puff, but made in such a way that the eggs hatch as they bake and are whole when extracted from their oven equivalent.
Wilvous: So he prefers cooking over baking for the most part, but he'd still probably want to try some of their stuff! He'd want to try their pumpkin, zucchini, or sweet potato bread, maybe with nuts! He'd show them a kind of drop-bread from Tellar that can be served with a salty root paste or a sweet *highly* fermented zesty liquid (both are for dipping).
Toka: a bit of a surprise one maybe, and I don't think he'd overtly want to bake with them like the other three would so much as "make a deal" with them! Now he might kind of try to sell them the recipe first with the offer that he'll tell them how they did, but they could sense his actual feelings and probably negotiate it down to a trade. They get the recipe for later use (with verbal credit to him and personal endorsement) and he gets the majority share of the food XD
It translates into something like "treasure log"; it's a very thick, extremely dense crusty bread with strategic slits across it. It's made from an insect flour, allowed to bake for a time, removed from the oven and several kinds of insects, arachnids, and mushrooms carefully threaded into the slits before it's returned to finish baking.
Who would have the most fun on an extended (like a week plus) camping/hunting/Fishing trip with Spark and Micah?
R'aahs! He would have so much fun with something like that!!! He's got crazy good survival skills, getting to hunt would be something he hasn't done in ages, almost nothing out there could really hurt him, it would be like getting to relive all of the good parts of being a young kid again! Idk if Micah would like him is the only thing, but like he'd be having a great time!!!
(Wilvous might would enjoy a few days, he does like getting to be out in nature for a bit, but I think a long stretch like that would be too much for him ultimately, plus he'd miss Ceicive who would not be going XD)
Does Toka ever miss being around other Ferengi?
He does sometimes! Moreso he just misses home, his status, and the consistency of cultural norms, but he does miss the people too. It's probably really nice for him to get to occasionally meet Ferengi who aren't as caught up in the localized culture to Ferenginar and not as interested in the scandal regarding him.
Do you think Ryn and Liz would get along? If she invited him to a sip and paint night, would he come? Would he have fun?
Eeeee (I LOVE Andorians!!!) (just as context Ryn isn't technically an oc, he's a canon character I took "protective custody" over since canon didn't really opt to do much with him or write an ((somewhat established)) Andorian disability for him despite setting him up for it perfectly, so he gets a survival au and I do my best not to write him too ooc)
I think he'd be nervous at first, he'd have never really gotten any chance to do something like that for basically any of his life before, and he'd probably try to get out of it at first, but change his mind a bit after learning that the practice of art is an extremely integral part of Andorian culture (something he's trying to learn to connect to)
He'd like the wine a lot since with his physiology it takes waaay more to get him drunk than it would a human XD The painting itself would be sort of a mixed bag; He has a very good memory for detail but like I said wouldn't have really gotten to do it creatively before so he might get kind of frustrated or nervous even though he knows there's no actual bad consequence of it not turning out right.
And if he did somehow get tipsy he'd have to try and muddle through the event without dropping a backstory trauma bomb or revealing information about the future.
It's maybe something he'd do well to try once, hone his skills in private for a while, then maybe push himself to try again on a bigger scale if she invites him again.
As for how they'd get along I think it'd be really interesting to see! They're real foils to each other in some ways tbh, with her having lived a wildly restrictive life within that culture due to her upbringing and only finding freedom in leaving it whereas for him it was something he was violently wrenched out of and is only now getting to reclaim so they'd have both no context for the other's experience and probably understand one another weirdly well at the same time!
Also Idk how much she's been able to distance herself from (traditional, it's probably slowly changing culturally) Andorian views on disability, so she might be a bit put off or at least unsure how to act around and towards him, but she seems really sweet so I'm sure she would at least do her best! <3
Yay another mix and match of softness!!!!! (Gotta hunt for an angst menu next hehehe)
Back at Ask bar roots with Ceicive and Wilvous
What made them first notice each other? Was there an immediate ‘click’ or did it take some time for them to look at each other with different eyes?
D'Harva and T'pril
Did they deny their feelings at first, or were they openly drawn to each other?
Kierv and the bartender
Was the attraction something obvious to notice?
Toka (beside Latinum lol)
What's something they will never fail to get excited over?
Bhea
How many pillows do they sleep with?
Looool well I do love angst & whump, but just bc I have more direct ideas for angst doesn't mean I don't like expanding on the sweet romances XD
Back at Ask bar roots with Ceicive and Wilvous: What made them first notice each other? Was there an immediate ‘click’ or did it take some time for them to look at each other with different eyes?:
Agh my sweeties! <3 <3🏳🌈🦎 🐗
So I think Wilvous noticed Ceicive first (he's honestly kind of hard to miss with all that Borg tech </3) when he was called into engineering at an unusual time early on after his arrival on the Omelas and before he'd switched to primarily Sickbay shifts. He was a little intimidated at first, but honestly I don't think it was too much more than he kind of was sometimes by almost anyone new, and anyhow he was sort of handsome in a strange way and polite in a way that seemed almost ridiculously fancy and dismissively rude by Tellarite standards, but with a distinct practicality and authentic sweetness beneath that syrupy polintness that kept him quite intriguing, and made him want to try and talk to him more!
With Ceicive it frankly took him a while to think of Wilvous beyond "skilled Tellarite engineer I see occasionally on unusual scheduling or occasionally in the mess hall who often talks to me." Once his engineering scheduling hours were adjusted to account for his sickbay time and he was seeing Wilvous more he was crushing hard within a week! (Wilvous is shy, but extremely smart and Tellarite arguing norms can make him seem super flirty to Ceicive by Cardassian standards, sparking the small flame to burn brighter).
(Cue their months long very actively trying to flirt beyond what just seems like normal talking vs. really wanting to flirt but trying not to because he knows about Tellarite social standards and doesn't want to be creepy. [thank goodness for Aerelai] XD )
D'Harva and T'pril: Did they deny their feelings at first, or were they openly drawn to each other?:
I don't think either of them really denied it (it wouldn't have been logical or honorable), but I do think they probably took it slow at first, just kind of meeting up to talk about what happened (and to thank one another for their respective help), then studying together (they were both in the Academy at the time), and it progressing to more and more time together and growing more romantically entwined (I don't know how long it took for them to openly say it, but I don't think they ever denied it).
Kierv and the bartender: Was the attraction something obvious to notice?
Ok kind of a little different twist, but since Denobulans canonically produce pheramones in regards to mating, and while I don't think it would have the same effect as it would on another Denobulan, I do think Kirev can detect them (bc I think of Andorians & Aenar having some insectoid traits in their biology that just don't come up in the show), so he could sort of tell almost instantly when her interests for him shifted (she liked him when she met him, but it took more than one time meeting him to be into him more).
I think he maybe felt a little crush quickly, but needed time to figure out what and how and how much he felt (he's Demisexual and had had that past relationship end very badly) but even though her attraction was obvious (and she knew it was pretty obvious and could kinda tell through experience that he was interested) she never pushed him and always kind of kept it clear that it was perfectly fine if he just wanted to sort of keep it unspoken and returning to the bar to just talk.
For a long time they really did just talk, but as time went on they got closer and closer each time the Omelas docks at the repair/ship port where her bar is, and after a while they end up entering a relationship.
Once they're together it's pretty obvious! They only get to see one another periodically (but that's very common in Denobulan relationships) and while they're certainly conscientious of others they're pretty openly flirty and tactile XD
Toka (beside Latinum lol): What's something they will never fail to get excited over?:
So he doesn't like having to do it, but I think when he gets the chance to do it for free for some reason (like through Starfleet credits or comped as a gift or something) he loves getting new stuff like new boots, a piece of furniture, a new desk, etc.!
He can spend hours comparing and contrasting and testing everything to make the perfect choice (it's almost never about aesthetics, moreso functionality and value)
Bhea: How many pillows do they sleep with?:
None if she's sleeping in the floatational mud tub with Muna (though Muna has one actually, it's sort of mesh), one or two if she's sleeping sitting up and curled up into a ball (usually just behind her back or sometimes with a pillow on her knees for her head)
What's their favorite comfort food that they eat when they're sad?
And back to our asking roots with Ceicive and Wilvous cause I love them.
What's something they do absentmindedly that their partner (if they have one) finds adorable
Yay!!! 💕🥂
Lukoroh: Do they have any collections?:
Yes! Little souvenirs from the various museums he's visited over the course of his work! Some have to do with exhibits he's helped to contribute to, some are based off of completely unrelated exhibits, and some are really just little toys with no connection to much of anything they were just in the gift shop XD
Lion therapist: What's their favorite comfort food that they eat when they're sad?
Oh I actually love this one!!! :D <3
He likes these little popsicle treats that are made from frozen blood (kind of like what lions in zoos are given as enrichment and to cool off in the summer! <3)
The one's he likes are 1. usually replicated, 2. much smaller, and 3. either actual popsicles or little cubes.
And back to our asking roots with Ceicive and Wilvous cause I love them.: What's something they do absentmindedly that their partner (if they have one) finds adorable:
Aghhhh my two first little sweethearts!! <3 <3 🦎 🐗
Ceicive:
So a lot of what he does is at least moderately intentional, but he does have a few unconscious behaviors!
When they're close to each other (lying down or sitting closely) Ceicive will coil up closer to Wilvous to bask in the heat he puts off
The way he perch-style sits on desks or couch arms and the like
and the way that, instead of laughing outright, he'll sort of double over shaking and twitching, sometimes covering his mouth reflexively like sound's going to come out. It freaked Wilvous out the first time he saw him do it, but once he realized what a genuine reaction of mirth it is he loves it <3
Wilvous
He makes little snort-grunts when he's deeply focused on a project in engineering or painting
The fact that he'll absentmindedly put anything into his pockets. They have to keep a little basket next to their fabric recycler for whatever stray tools/PADDS/art stuff/misc bits fall out when they're turned out
When they're cuddling on the couch he flops (honestly pretty forcefully) against Ceicive in relaxation (especially if he falls asleep like that and becomes a big loud blanket XD <3)
There are so many general questions so i found a batch of those!!
14. Are any of your characters nonverbal? (Beside Ceicive? Cause he kinda is right)
32. Do you have any characters who are twins?
42. Did/do any of your characters have an arranged marriage?
96. Which character is The Proudest ™ of their kids?
Oooh ok!!! :D
14. Are any of your characters nonverbal? (Beside Ceicive? Cause he kinda is right)
First off yes Ceicive very much is! His is a kind of fluent aphasia and he can typically understand what people say to him and can physically verbalize, but what he says is just word salads and/or completely off-topic and he won't realize whatsoever because it registers as completely normal.
He's honestly the only one I can think of who's fully so though (for now?), but some other characters might have some speech issues, like Wilvous' anxiety might get up to selective mutism at times, Makarr definitely has it and some severe speech issues from facial scarring, and R'aahs was a late bloomer in a lot of areas including verbally and later on has some speech issues after breaking his jaw and having some pincer teeth regrow in an overly clustered way.
32. Do you have any characters who are twins?
Not currently! Some of R'aahs' older siblings might be a set, but nobody specifically at the moment!
42. Did/do any of your characters have an arranged marriage?
T'Pril was at one point (more as a formality of tradition, either of them were technically free to object if they had sufficient reason to do so.) She objected (lesbian) and it was understood that the union would not be occurring. Her perspective husband's family was actually much more understanding than her ex husband to be, who attempted to convince her to alter her decision (hence D'Hrava's introductory library window yeet).
Also The Ferengi COS' adoptive parents could technically count in that his mother (remember they're T4T) was pressured into selecting a cheap "bride" at a young age by her father because he thought it would get her out of her house and into business if she had some proper motivation, and by happenstance she signed a marriage contract of the young man who'd she'd build a very loving life with down the line. Like fate just genuinely aligned perfectly for them honestly <3 <3
96. Which character is The Proudest ™ of their kids?
Oh. God. That's really hard to answer.
J'hren is an extremely loving father, but to say he's the most proud might not be true especially given Makarr. Like there is no question of his love for them but his pride? Well he's proud they all managed to somehow survive but most of his energy kind of goes into hoping they all stay that way. Similarly, Aikalaein loves J'hren very much, but sees him as very soft and struggling to make certain harder choices a lot of the time (hence why one of his genuinely prouder moments is when J'hren makes some of the choices he personally considers his cruelest).
The COS' parents think of him as a blessing, a sign, and an opportunity they're grateful to have had, but they're very anxious people and more than anything they worry about him and to some extent for their life through his actions. He's juggled fame, infamy, and now possibly some degree of utter madness off working for starfleet credits after accruing medical and some deliberately unspecified debts. (He paid hush money and ultimately an assassin to keep an unseemly relative who'd tracked his mother down quiet. He'd rather they think he went bezerk in a tongo game than admit he'd let someone blackmail him that long.)
Kirev mostly just feels grief when he thinks about his actual biological child, and in the cases of the people he's a sort of (or outright) a substitute father for I don't think he'd feel it's his place to actually claim to feel proud of them directly (he still is, but he wouldn't ever really say it barring highly specific circumstances).
I think I've kinda got to go with Muna's father, I think she ended up taking a very different path than he expected (he thought she'd take over the business), but seeing her graduate the academy was a beautiful moment for him. <3 He's not really very talkative, but he'll tell anyone who mentions her or the picture of her on his communicator or the ramp on the boat or their own child allllll about her and her career and promotion and what she was like as a kid and what she's been up to aboard the ship that week <3 <3 <3
If presented with the opportunity, would they accept omniscient knowledge?
And Ceicvie and Wilvous
When thinking about themselves, are they a soul, a consciousness, or a body? Do they think as I, we, or you?
Ooh very meta!
If presented with the opportunity, would they accept omniscient knowledge?
Doctor D'Hrava:
Yes, I think so. I think it'd mess with her in that I don't think it would necessarily stop her trying to change things or being exactly who she is, but of course how could something like that not change you at all?
There are Klingon monks who are keepers of time crystals since far back in ancient times and I think that's a legend that has always stuck with her. She doesn't dream of being one of them anymore so much, but she used to in her younger days, and it's something she still thinks about a lot.
Kirev:
I think it's something he thinks he (and all others) have after death; so while he wouldn't decline it outright it's not something he'd be deeply eager for either.
It's something he's accepted, and there are things he wants to know, but he's a bit afraid to find out the answers as well.
When thinking about themselves, are they a soul, a consciousness, or a body? Do they think as I, we, or you?
Ceicive
Probably a consciousnesses; He's undergone so many changes that I don't know that he'd think of his body as the same one anymore and can't tie his sense of being entirely to it (and he would have known of individuals whose brainwaves were uploaded to processing units without much more of their bodies, so he might think of himself as closer to that than something whole.
I think he sort of thinks of himself as a mixture of himself and an extension of Cardassia since that would have been drilled into him from a pretty young age so a mix of I/we. There is a secret 3rd We that can start to pop out when he gets enough Borg PTSD stress and he starts to revert a bit to it because it's so uncomfortably easy and gives him a mental fallback of unity.
Wilvous:
For a long time (and still sometimes honestly) it was as a body and a mind separately almost as sort of a defense, like if one was a problem he just focused on the other and and could shunt the other to the back burner. He gets more rooted as he gets more communicative and assertive, but that's still kind of what he does mentally if he shuts down. </3
It's still always "I", just one becomes a half that he doesn't have to focus on because the "I" is the part that's fixing the problem
