A Saxon-ish peasant warrior.

The gender is likely not historically accurate, but I wanted to paint a female Saxon peasant warrior, so I did!

This would be member of the peasant class, a ceorl, and probably a kotsetla, which is sort of in the middle range of peasant ranking. She’s armed with a seax, which is basically just a knife, and would have been her weapon when she was asked to join the fyrd (army mobilized from freemen). Swords were likely too expensive for many members of the peasant class.

Finished! Two 3-meter long bands for use as winingas/wickelbander. Now my husband’s pant legs will be protected from the bike chain, plus they’re very warm and also awesome.

I still have a bunch of white handspun yarn--I’ll have to think about more weaving projects.

The beginnings of the first weaving project on my new-to-me floor loom. It’s taken me a couple months to get it back in working order, mostly due to the lengthy process of removing rust from the reed.

The white is yarn I’ve handspun. The project is ~3″ wide and will make two bands, each 9 feet (3m) long. They are winningas/wickelbander, which are a traditional scandinavian leg and foot wrap.
