Focus and narrow it down to achieve results.
At times we are overwhelmed with too much work. This gives us a feeling of importance and at the same time, we are overwhelmed with many tasks, not getting completed. Some people tend to show off that they are busy with too many things. After some time it builds frustrations internally as most of the jobs remain pending and unfinished. It may lead to burnout issues and reach a state of keeping many things pending and we tend to believe that is how organization function. We start blaming the situations we are in, our managers, or the organization. We come home exhausted with no sense of pride, living under constant stress and we may even feel our working conditions are not so conducive for us to succeed
However, if you want to achieve great results, a few of the steps may be helpful
Focus on the task that matters to you the most in a given day, week, month, or year using 80/20 principles
The 80/20 principle says, to focus on your 20% of efforts that can give you 80% results. In other words, prioritize your tasks and narrow them down to the minimum 20% that matters the most.
Focus on doing a few things well, rather than focusing on doing everything.
Keep that 20% that matters most and come up with a strategy for how it can be delivered well and on time
Allocate the jobs between you and others, who is the best person to do this job well?
The rest of the jobs simply delegate and allow people to work on it. In other words, you devote maximum time to deliver 20% of the task that gives you maximum results to your role/dept/organization as the case may be.
Review end of the day what is your achievement in a given day,
Make an observation, of how well you could have delivered the job better.
Use creative ways to deliver the job and be open to as many options as possible.
Review your daily performance, weekly performance, and monthly performance, please record it
Check actual results achieved vs. your target or your potential to achieve.
Check your efficiency levels, are you working at your 20%, 30%, or working at 100% efficiency levels
Work towards delivering work smartly, rather than working harder
It is not the number of hours you work; it is the effective usage of time to deliver results well.
Hence it Is never a question of working long hours or harder, it has to go with narrowing with absolute focus and achieving the tasks that have the maximum impact on your results.
Finally, it is about DELIVERING FEW OF THE WORKS WELL, RATHER THAN TRYING TO COMPLETE ALL THE TASKS. It can never be achieved.
Winners never strive to achieve everything. They focus on achieving a few things that matter the most well.
