Frosted Flowers, Finn x Listener
An ice skating date between Finn from YuuriVoice and his listener. I call the listener "Orchid" cause that's what Finn uses fairly often, and I don't wanna go back to using 'you' like I did in middle school.
I originally wrote this as a script when YuuriVoice opened script submissions, but I chickened out and didn't send it in. So instead I completely ripped it apart and turned it into a fic. So... enjoy this frankensteined piece of work. ao3 link at bottom.
Orchid sat on one of the benches next to the booth of ice skate rentals, scanning the crowd for their boyfriend. Finn had promised to meet them at the outdoor ice rink after he closed his shop, and would be here any minute. Sure enough, they spotted him making his way through the crowd, apologizing as he bumped into people. He finally managed to make his way to where they were sitting, his face lighting up as he got closer. His cheeks were flushed from the cold air and small strands of his hair were poking out from under his hat.
“Hey! I hope you weren’t waiting too long,” he greeted, walking closer as Orchid stood up from the bench to greet him.
“No, I just got here,” they hummed. They leaned in and pecked his cheek, watching his already flushed cheeks go several shades darker.
“Wha- hey! What was that for?” He laughed, handing his head in an attempt to hide his blush. Orchid just shrugged, picking up their bag from where they left it on the bench.
“Just felt like it. I can’t help it when my boyfriend is so cute.”
“You can’t just say things like that!” Finn whined, sinking his face into the collar of his coat. It was the same color green as his work shirt, and the knit hat he was wearing matched as well. Orchid just threw their head back and laughed.
“Come on, I rented us a locker we can use. Let’s get our skates on and put our stuff away so we can get started.” They lead him to the small rows of lockers, shoving their shoes and bags into the small space. Once they both laced up their skates, they headed onto the ice. The rink wasn’t quite as crowded as the area outside, but there were still plenty of people in the rink, mostly families and couples. Orchid stepped onto the rink first, gliding away from the door so Finn could step in behind them. He hesitated in the doorway for a moment before attempting to follow his partner. Almost immediately after both his skates were on the ice, he lost his balance before catching himself, throwing his arms out to out as a counter balance. Orchid laughed as Finn steadied himself, occasionally wobbling.
“Hey! Don’t laugh. You know how clumsy I am, putting me on ice is basically asking for trouble,” he protested, laughing along. Orchid skated back over, stopping in front of him.
“Here, give me your hands,” they said, holding both hands in front of them, palms up. His gloved hands fit perfectly into theirs. The brown leather gloves were worn, but well cared for, just like his coat and hat. “Good, now I can help you balance while we skate,” they said, using the front tip of their blade to push themselves backwards, slowly pulling Finn with them. He was thrown off by the sudden movement, but kept his balance this time, using Orchid’s hands as an anchor.
“Wait, what if I fall and pull you down with me?” Orchid just shrugged.
“Then we fall.” They continued to skate backwards, making sure to keep their pace slow as they looked up as Finn. He still seemed hesitant, but he didn’t protest further, instead looking down to focus on his skates. They made several laps around the rink like that, Orchid moving them both while Finn found his footing.
“Alright, I think I’m getting the hang of this,” Finn said as they started a new lap.
“You want to try without me?” Orchid said, slowing them down to a stop.
They let go of his hand and moved to stand next to him. Once they were back by his side, he laced his fingers through their nearest hand.
“Maybe I should still hold on, just to be safe.” Orchid smiled at him, giving his hand a light squeeze. They continued to skate around hand in hand, slowly at first, then at a comfortable pace around the rink. They talked while they made laps. Finn told Orchid about the customers he had met at work, telling them about all the different orders he had filled and the new venue he had been hired to cater. They skated for a little over two hours before deciding to call it a day. They made their way off of the ice and to the lockers, switching out their skates for their normal shoes and grabbing their bags.
“You hungry?” Finn asked as they walked out to their cars. “Jack recommended this cafe not too far from here, it has lots of soups, pasta, and other kinds of comfort foods that could help us warm up if you’re interested. Or if you wanted to we could just go back to my house. I don’t think I have too much food wise, but I always have lots of tea. “
“Mmm, dinner sounds nice. Maybe we could go to your house after?”
“Sounds perfect,” he said, stopping when they arrived at Orchid’s car.
“I’ll see you in a couple minutes,” they said, placing a soft kiss on his lips, cupping the side of his face.
He smiled at them, “one more?” Orchid laughed, then leaned back in and kissed him once more. “Ah, my Orchid,” he hummed into the kiss. “Alright," he said, giving them one more quick peck before pulling back. “I’ll see you soon.”
