Anyone know where to find a community into this thing?

I had no issue finding a community for Magnus Archives, but I can't find anyone interested in discussing this show :(( maybe i just didn't look hard enough, or maybe it's the shitty google algorithm. Anyways, the reddit only has 18 members😭 so yeah, anyone know this thing?

Audio Drama Sunday - 30th July ✨

Another great week of audio drama has kept my brain busy while my data collection is less busy. Happy Audio Drama Sunday, please allow me to share my favourites!

SPOILERS!!

🌲 @hellofromthehallowoods (127) Oh NO Mrs Wicker get your children away from that Church!!!! I love to hear the J-sibs starting to push back against her, long may it continue! I'm also still obsessed with the Raven-Writing Desk dynamic and it's only going to get juicier when Mr Writing Desk actually wants to follow Penny’s demands… And Danielle!! I love that she still gets to be an active help in the mission to the North in a way that doesn’t feel like deus ex machina because it’s just her. 

🎞 Tiny Terrors (022) this episode had me yelling ‘what’s the catch?!?!?’ internally and I’ve just seen that the wait is over to listen to the other side of the tape!! Angela, what are you??

🌍 @lastechoespod (7) As some of you may know. . . I am a huge fan of Drs in Space. This episode had me gripped, those poor people 😭 What a cruel scare tactic from the Collected for that to be played to the people trying to decide whether to join. I’m so tense to hear what the final archival selection is going to be! 

🧛‍♂️ @re-dracula Things are TENSE aboard the Demeter. Even in <60s of audio, the creeping dread is so palpable. And Mina, sweet Mina! So thrilled to have her back! Listening rather than reading has makes it so much easier to parse the long, chunky sections describing Whitby!! I have high hopes that I'm going to stick with it to the very end this time.

 💫 Wolf 359 (24-32) Oh fuck. I am so glad I have all the episodes to listen to at once. I could NOT have dealt with the wait between seasons. Ep 30, Mayday, is possibly one of the coolest things I’ve ever heard. I love that feeling of rooting for a character so hard that you forget that they don’t really exist and that you know they make it because there are another 30 eps of the show left. And the new characters - Kepler, Jacobi, Maxwell - wow, I LOVE to hate them. They’re fantastic in the worst way. 

🎩 @ethicstownpod (5) Things got a little creepy on the emergency broadcast this week. Memory is created as it is recalled?? What?? My mind is boggled. I’m very excited to hear how this, and what seems to be a growing discomfort between January and Artemis, plays out in the next episodes! 

🥾@doyoucopypod (3) Now. Hear me out. I know that being stuck up in a radio tower all day has got to be boring but I do think there might be a better time to flirt with your colleague than when 3 people are missing in a place called the ‘Dead Zone’ where strange ecological events are occurring . . . Just me?? Have I got the braincell here??? I’m so excited for these shenanigans to get even spookier. 

🏴‍☠️ Yeah. I listened to @levianpod again. What are you going to do? Support their crowdfunder? Good. Do it.

🎧 Such an interesting episode of The First Episode Of with @wirelandranch! The wireland vibes have always been immaculate and it’s so interesting to learn about where it came from and why it’s an amalgamation rather than a straight-up audio drama. 

🐬 Described as a weird mystery, @patterspod is exactly that. It’s batshit in the best possible way. Perhaps I hang out with strange people, but the main character is so normal in his weirdness, I feel like most people know a guy like Ryan even though Ryan is a liar ghostwriter trying to hunt down his thieving EX-boss with ?paranormal connections. It’s great stuff. 

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend! My goal is to have season two of the show written by the start of August . . . So I should stop writing this and get to writing that . . . Right? Okay.

It's audio drama Sunday! Here are this week's recs!

For some of the best audio work out there? Check out The Moon Crown! The voice of Lou lulls you in, the sound effects tell such an incredible story. It's a high fantasy horror podcast based on Filipino mythology, and I highly recommend! @themooncrownpod

If you like The Aberrant Report (hi) you'll probably like October's Children. It's told through different characters and centers around a town in New England with some ~paranormal mystery~ afoot. With a cast to love, and sound design to draw you in, you'll enjoy every moment!

I'm really excited for Hello From The Hallowoods to come back, especially after the Prologue Mx. Wellman gave us last week! If you don't know, HFTH is a story told through snippets of different characters, each leading into the story web of The Hallowoods. There are more queer characters that I could even name. It's one of my favorite podcasts. @hellofromthehallowoods

If you are looking for a psychedelic work that critiques capitalism at every turn, I highly recommend Wireland Ranch. The sound design is spectacular, and each story is told with such otherworldly detail.

I've been listening to Parkdale Haunt since its finale. I'm not yet completely caught up, but I enjoy the characters they bring to the table. You can tell how close Judith and Claire are from episode one. The mystery is enticing, but the personality of the show is what makes it!

▲ Audio Drama Recommendations - Week One!

Happy #AudioDramaSunday! Just in time for our first proper newsletter release! We've got a handful of sci-fi shows we'd like to recommend, as well as a full review of our favourite listen of the week to check out! This week, we’re rounding up a handful of other hard sci-fi shows that we’re a fan of. If you like Spire, odds are, you’ll like these guys too!

@station151podcast follows Antartica’s first and only astronomical radio observatory. Great pace, atmosphere and concept. I’ll always eat up AI characters (SPIRE audiences do not interact) and research station astronomy will always have a special place in my heart.

@wirelandranch is cosmic horror at its best. It’s sci-fi in the broadest sense, combining Americana with the psychedelic. Great sound design and certainly immersive. Sometimes I don’t know where I am when I listen to this. That’s good.

Edict Zero is a super unique cyber noir adventure. The sound design is literally crazy, and if you’re a fan of a bangin’ soundtrack (you are, you know it), you will certainly enjoy this. Cinematic, immersive. Slay. 

And, our final recommendation is a show I’ve had the pleasure of listening to for the first time this week, @chainofbeing! Read our full review under the cut :))

Chain Of Being is a science fiction, narrative podcast, though honestly, I’d classify it as toeing the line of Weird Fiction, which is the greatest compliment I could give, considering it’s my absolute favourite genre. I will always adore a show that isn’t afraid to take itself to strange, unique places, and Chain Of Being commits one-hundred-percent to its atmosphere. It’s not the kind of show where you can just sit back and listen, it encourages you to meet it at its level, which I’ve found can be rare — especially in an age where most media will spoon feed you information — but very, very welcome.

Conceptually, the show is very strong. I love the combination of high Biblical concepts with hard sci-fi. It creates a deeply immersive atmosphere that you can lose yourself in, while still using just enough cues for a modern audience to enfold themselves in the world without too much separation. Its unique setting makes it stand out in the world of AD, and that’s only improved by the stellar sound design. Especially the first few remastered episodes are so deeply atmospheric and sonically unique, it feels greatly cinematic. The acting is great, and all voices are distinct and well characterised — which is often important in AD, especially one as high-concept as this, when the audience has so much to pay attention to. The writing is also clearly aware of the audience — knowing exactly what to do to engage them, while still respecting that they will do the work to fill in the blanks.

Highly recommend a listen, especially since their second season is in the works. Chain Of Being stands out in the landscape of audio drama as a great show. They’re crowdfunding this month too, so if you’re interested, definitely check out their own page here!

Audio Drama Sunday, as you do

The Supernatural Protection Company – Back in April I had an idea similar to this after working at the call center for the El Paso Water Company, I outlined a few episodes and did some research, but it fell apart because that sort of writing isn’t my strong point, and my brain is like a toaster. Looking back now after listening to a few episodes of the show, I’m glad I didn’t try and go forward with my version idea because Saph the Something did an amazing, amazing job creating this show and did a far, far better job than anything I could have created. I’m envious but more I’m delighted that someone else had this idea and went forward with it in such a delightful way. I cannot express how much you all should listen to this.

Badlands Cola – half Jessica Jones’ dark, dry humor, half Lovecraftian-style occult detective with the slow burn strangeness of Silt Verses and True Detective, Badlands Cola is a rising star in the audio drama community and for good reason. The story telling is 200 proof, the dialogue is strong, believable, and engaging, and the setting is just familiar enough to feel like it could be happening next door. Badlands Cola is a fun listen, a very fun listen, so fun that I needed to listen to it twice because I was convinced that I missed something secret detail or hidden message. I have to wonder, then, does that mean I’m being targeted by this cult?

Wireland Ranch – Surrealist writing, savagely anti-capitalist humor, and an all too real sense of what the fuck is about to happen oh my god it’s happening oh god it’s happening, Wireland Ranch is as southern gothic as southern gothic can get. It’s so “what the fuck?” and moves so fast that you as the listener have no choice but to think “okay so that’s a thing” and go with it. It’s an acid trip in the best possible way, if Lovecraft weren’t a racist nonce, he might be able to come up with something this surreal and uneasy. I cannot recommend this one enough, I have no idea what’s really going on, but you know what, I don’t need to know what the hell is happening to me as I listen.
