A type of witch I am?

I may still very much be developping, after all, I feel like I am even less familiar with witchcraft than with polytheism, both of which are very new to me. But there is one term I have made for myself, which I am quite fond of.

I am a "Me witch".

Basically, my magick revolves around deepening the understanding of myself and striving to boost my good qualities to be the best version of myself I can be. I think my favorite thing is my visions. They aren't exactly what you would expect, as I don't have visions about the past or the future. They work very much like dreams, as a reflection of my ambitions, fears, current situation. They can even only be achieved when my body if half asleep but my conscious is still running. It may seem boring, because "what's the point of being told what you already know?" but it tends to be so much better to get that sort of new perspective. Besides, the visions work almost (if not entirely) exclusively with symbols, and decoding them is a lot of fun to me!

Did you know its okay to change your witchcraft path?

You are not tied to one path or type of witchcraft, you can follow multiple ones at the same time. If you decide on one path and then realise its not for you, you can change - switch it up! Even if you’re committed to one path you can still explore others. Its okay! Its okay to not know what path you should choose and its okay not to want to choose any path at all. Its okay to call yourself a certain type of witch no matter how long you have been practicing. It’s all good sisters! Witchcraft is based on energy. Energy is always changing and evolving and should we!

Do I have to have a path in order to be a witch?

Not at all! I definitely didn’t have a specific path when I started. And even if you have no sort of ‘label’ throughout your witching career, that’s completely fine. 

You may find that you tend to lean toward using certain things in your craft all the time, and that may define your ‘path’ or working with a certain deity, but its by no means a prerequisite to being a witch :)

new witch here,,, do i have to have an altar or use tarot cards?? also how do i find out what type of witch i am??

Magic is all about intent. The magic is in you, so you don’t need any tools! ^-^

An altar is a space you’ve created to practice magic at. For a long time I struggled with what to place on my altar, because I didn’t know what should be represented. I thought there was a proper way to make an altar and I was afraid of doing it wrong. Recently one of my favorite witches put it very simply:

Altars should have whatever puts you in a witchy mood! :)

If that means pretty rocks, crystals, candles, art, or sparkly things, then that’s what it takes! Many witches like to place representations of things that are important to their practice (deity statuettes, soil, water, feather, and candle for the elements etc). It’s all up to you! Witches don’t need altars (many witches don’t have them), but if you decide that it’s something you’d like to create, have fun with it!

Tarot cards are used to have insight into other people’s lives, yourself, or knowledge of past and future events. They take a bit of practice to memorize (as there are 72 cards), but if they’re something you’d like to use for the above purposes then give it a try!

You don’t have to choose a type, now or ever, but this list is always great for ideas if you’re not sure what direction of witchcraft you want to go towards! See if any of these types describe you. If not, don’t worry! A “Witch Type” is supposed to fit you, not the other way around.

Today’s haul from the Gem Show! From left to right like a book (sorry the picture is sideway): 

5 Obsidian Spearheads: Root Chakra. Earth Energy. Protection, cutting cords, grounding, defense magic, removing negativity. I use them in my home wards and plan on making one into a personal protection thing and the other putting on my staff. Not sure what I’m doing to do with the rest yet.

Selenite Wand: Third Eye & Crown Chakra. Lunar Energy. Air. [Selenite is the only crystal that can cleanse quartz.] Removes free radicals and dispels negative energy. Brings mental clarity, peace, tranquility. 

Citrine: Sacral, Solar Plexus, and Crown Chakras. Solar Energy. Manifestation, Personal Will, Imagination. Citrine does not hold or accumulate negative energy so it’s one of the few stones you don’t have to cleanse. It transmutates, dissipates, and grounds negative energy. Citrine in sunshine dispels negative forces around an area.

Blue Calcite: Third Eye & Throat Chakra. Water. Lunar Energy. Communication, decreases anxiety or frayed nerves. 

Green Fluorite: Heart & Throat Chakra. Will detoxify and energize all the chakras, most specifically the heart and throat chakras. Gentle healer. Absorbs pollution from the environment. They harmonize well with computers and electronics and can clean them for all you techno witches out there!

3 Gypsum Roses [Selenite is also Gypsum]: Root Chakra. Contains all the same properties of Selenite but each Gypsum Rose is said to contain a different spirit guardian within it. I don’t know if this is true but I’ve bought these 3 to give to friends and I’ve got one I’ve been meditating with now for a few months and it is quite lovely! I haven’t met any spirits from it, though.

Raw Tourmilated Quartz: Earth. Root Chakra. This is the most intense sh*t ever. I recommend that EVERYONE have a tourmilated quartz for self protection, balancing both sides of the brain, and just improving the energy of each room in your house. Black Tourmaline blocks energy attacks but mixed with quartz it is a force to be reckoned with because, as we all know, quartz AMPLIFIES. 

Blue Jasper: Solar Plexus Chakra and Throat Chakra. Speaking out against injustice, risking unpopularity to defend those who are too weak to defend themselves. Anti-stress stone for those in tricky situations.

Labradorite: Third Eye & Crown Chakras. Lunar Energy. Air. The Stone of the Northern Lights (there is an old story that Labradorite originally fell from the Aurora Borealis). A crystal of Shamans, of self-discovery, of healing. Enhances the best in you and brings out magical ability.

Fossil Shells - Two beautiful reminders for friends of mine of the Fibanachi Squences around us.

Amber: Solar Energy. Solar Plexus Chakra. Earth & Water Energy. This is not a gem but a hardened tree resin, which actually acts much like white sage or white pine on an area, drawing pain and disease from the area. It’s great for use in those with chronic pain, chronic illness, young teething children (don’t put it in the mouth!), or the elderly. It provides a light barrier against negativity and anxiety.

SO EXCITED TO GET TO KNOW ALL THESE BEAUTIES! (except the gifts.)
