Historically, magical ointments have been used for much more than just spirit flight. These entheogenic preparations have been adapted for use in ritual and spellcraft to suit the needs of the practitioner. We seem mention of magical ointments being used in shapeshifting and in the transformation of others, love magic and all manner of maleficia. When we use flying ointments for magical practices, we are using the entheogenic state in a different way. Many witches have felt the call of Datura! Growing abundantly throughout Northa America, it’s been here with us for centuries, and now we make a more intimate acquaintance. Datura, known by many names by many different cultures since ancient times, is one of the sisters of the Nightshade family; the Solanaceae. She has been used by European witches, native shaman of both North and South America, and is a popular plant of modern witches and sorcerers on the Poison Path. According to the lore of Scott Cunningham, Datura is used for hex breaking, sleep and protection, but that barely scratches the surface of this nocturnal witch’s herb. POISON PLANT FORMULARY is a two-part live course focused understanding the chemical composition of baneful herbs and how to safely and effectively use them in formulas for spiritual practice. The first part will focus on the chemical composition of specific plants and the effects those chemicals have on the human physiology.
