Are nonbinary people trans?
yes in every case - I am nonbinary
no in every case - I am nonbinary
yes in every case - I am trans
no in every case - I am trans
yes in every case - I am not nonbinary or trans
no in every case - I am not nonbinary or trans
yes unless they are agender
yes if they are closer to the gender that they weren't assigned with at birth
yes but only if they transition
yes but only if they identify as trans
I do not want to answer this poll but still want to see results
I am not trying to say anything with this poll. I have no agenda. I simply want to see if others see nonbinary people as trans. I have heard some say that if you are not cis, you are trans. I have also heard others say you are only trans if you are on the binary. I just want to know which opinion is more popular.
Sincerely,
A nonbinary person
I just need to get this off my chest. I keep running into it, in everything from fanfic to current news commentary.
reign vs. rein
reign: the period during which a sovereign rules.
rein: a long, narrow strap attached at one end to a horse's bit, typically used in pairs to guide or check a horse while riding or driving.
So, to the source of my actual annoyance:
“You don’t get free rein to nose into people’s personal business just because you’re the team leader.”
This is the correct usage. The expression is NOT “free reign.”
If you give a horse “free rein,” you are not controlling it. You are holding the reins loosely and letting it pick its own path. Usually this implies you trust the horse, and in the case of a well-behaved, experienced horse on familiar ground, this may be the best choice - especially if it’s dark or foggy out and you are not familiar with the path yourself.
So if you are, say, a manager on a technical team, and you think one of your direct-reports is ready for bigger responsibilities, you might say, “Meredith, you’re the project lead. I’m giving you free rein to make all the day-to-day decisions. Just make sure I know what’s going on and that you are able to hit the major milestones shown on the plan.”
You’re not letting her be the queen. You’re setting her free to pick the best path by herself.
What do you think Austen encompasses when she refers to “taste” and “manners”? I’m trying to think past the obvious but I don’t really know what these concepts meant in the early 19th century, but they were clearly important descriptives.
Thanks for your thoughts!
This is a big question, as Jane Austen's works are often described as a "comedy of manners" and the concept of taste comes up a lot! There are certainly nuances in the way she uses these words. I'm going to do taste in this response and manners in another post because this got long.
Taste comes in two forms, natural and educated. Lady Catherine in Pride & Prejudice snobbishly describes herself as having the former:
There are few people in England, I suppose, who have more true enjoyment of music than myself, or a better natural taste. If I had ever learnt, I should have been a great proficient.
While this is most likely a jab at people who claim natural taste while being uneducated, and a display of Lady Catherine's misplaced pride. In Sense & Sensibility, Elinor defends Edward by claiming he has natural taste:
“What a pity it is, Elinor,” said Marianne, “that Edward should have no taste for drawing.”
“No taste for drawing!” replied Elinor, “why should you think so? He does not draw himself, indeed, but he has great pleasure in seeing the performances of other people, and I assure you he is by no means deficient in natural taste, though he has not had opportunities of improving it. Had he ever been in the way of learning, I think he would have drawn very well. He distrusts his own judgment in such matters so much, that he is always unwilling to give his opinion on any picture; but he has an innate propriety and simplicity of taste, which in general direct him perfectly right.”
Is there a difference between 'fuck buddies' and 'friends with benefits'?
Yes: fuck buddies is more about the sex while FWB is more about the friendship
Yes: fuck buddies is more about the friendship and FWB is more about the sex
Yes, another difference (in tags)
No, they're different words for the same thing
Honestly? No clue
By 'more about the friendship' I mean friends who happen to like having sex with each other, who would probably still be friends if they stopped having sex.
By 'more about the sex' I mean only really friends because they're fucking, and if they stopped having sex they probably wouldn't bother seeing each other.
Hello there, just a quick post with different definitions(?) of words and my posts, it will be updated in general.

Welp, guess highlighting the word and clicking “look up” isn’t enough this time. Let’s open the browser and search for “coping stone” then!

Quilting has been used so extensively on quilts, throws, and comfortables that many think of it only in connection with them and do not realize how much real beauty it can contribute to garments. Quilting costs little more than your time....
Mary Brooks Picken added that you did have to take time to make it “perfect work,” so attention was needed as well. She gave examples of machine quilting all over on a robe, vest, or “comfortable” which is a little confusing, but comfortables here meant both padded or quilted comforters for beds AND padded and quilted mufflers (thank you, Oxford English Dictionary). While this was published in Sewing Simplified from 1953, some of the material dated back to the 1930s from earlier books Picken wrote, and the meaning of words has since changed.
She also pointed out that bands along the edge of a garment might be quilted, and I have seen quilted collars and cuffs that are handsome as well. Picken also suggested quilting a coat lining, but I swore I would never take on a large quilting project after I machine quilted a simple-pieced comforter. It was about the most tedious and awkward machine sewing I had ever done.
So, take my advice and think of machine quilting as trim or embellishment. If you are keen on a quilted coat lining, you can buy such fabrics pre-made.
