Cathemeral animals: those which are sporadically active during parts of both day and night

Crepuscular animals: those which are primarily active during the twilight period, being matutinal, vespertine, or both

Diurnal animals: those which are active during the day

Imago: the last stage of insect metamorphosis, when they are sexually mature and have functional wings

Instar: a developmental stage of arthropods(ex insects) which occurs between each moult until sexual maturity is reached

Larva: a distinct juvenile form many animals(insects, some arachnids etc) undergo before metamorphosis into their next life stage

Matutinal animals: those which are active at dawn

Monoestrus: having one estrus cycle per year

Moulting: process by which an animal casts off parts of its body to serve some beneficial purpose, either at specific times of the year, or at specific points in its life cycle

Nocturnal animals: those which are active at night

Pedicels: bony supporting structures that develop in the lateral region of the frontal bone

Pelage: the fur, hair or wool of a mammal

Pupa: life stage of some insects undergoing transformation

Regurgitation: the action of bringing swallowed food up to the mouth

Ruminant:  an animal (such as a cow or sheep) that swallows food and then brings it back up again to continue chewing it

Twilight period: the period of time before sunrise and after sunset

Vagrancy: is a phenomenon in biology whereby an individual animal (usually a bird) appears well outside its normal range, they are known as vagrants.

Vespertine animals: those which are active at dusk

this is actually HILARIOUS because both domestic rabbits and domestic cats practice dominance-related social grooming but for wildly different reasons.

if you're a rabbit, the boss rabbit is the one who gets groomed by its subordinate rabbits.

but if you're a cat... the boss cat is the one that grooms the other cats.

No more wars for oil

Today it’s Venezuelan oil, tomorrow it could be Greenland’s oil and gas. The last thing the world needs is more wars over oil. Trump illegally invaded Venezuela because it holds the most crude oil in the world and he wants it to pay back the US fossil fuel companies that bank-rolled his re-election.⁠ Now he is threatening Greenland. If he rips up the Arctic country's ban on oil and gas drilling, the impacts on Indigenous Peoples and animals like polar bears and reindeer will be devastating. Fossil fuels are already driving the greatest threat to humanity as climate breakdown causes rising temperatures, floods, fires, storms and droughts that are destroying communities all around the world. With oil driving both conflicts and climate disasters, the need to get off climate-wrecking fossil fuels and move to a cleaner, safer, more stable renewable energy, has never been so urgent. Things are moving fast. We can’t just sit back and watch in anger - we must band together and turn our outrage into action. Will you stand against Trump’s oil wars?

passively scrolling animal/plant/fungi ID subreddits for 9,537 hours will have you identifying organisms and not knowing how. i'll just be like carpet beetle inky cap northern flicker no i don't know how to tell

it's very cool actually. it feels like the way little kids learn language, naturally through exposure and pattern recognition. i'm not confident In my IDs, because i can't back them up with evidence, but i don't need to be because i'm not doing anything with any stakes, like foraging or commenting to say what i think it is. nothing happens if im wrong

Water companies MUST pay to fix their mess and stop contaminating our soil!

UK GOVT: KEEP TOXIC SEWAGE OFF OUR FARMLAND

Water companies have been dumping millions of tonnes of toxic sewage sludge on UK farmland as ‘fertiliser’ - turns out it can be packed with microplastics and harmful chemicals.

This toxic sludge is being spread on UK farms, contaminating the soil that grows our food, and polluting our rivers. And water companies have not been frank about what's in this sludge.

Now, following River Action’s legal challenge, the government is under pressure to clamp down on this excessive muck spreading, and a new Greenpeace investigation reveals water companies are panicking.

A potential clampdown could leave them unable to get rid of millions of tonnes of this toxic waste - and unbelievably, they plan to make the public pay to clean it up. Again.
