was talking to a coworker and realised i could not for the life of me remember his name but i was too embarrassed to ask because we've spoken multiple times so mid-conversation i started concocting a plan to nudge the conversation towards the ID photos on our building passes so that i could be like oh my ID photo is awful haha the camera they use to take these has a real talent for making me look as unphotogenic as possible and then he would say oh yes me too haha everyone says that (because they do) and then i would be able to say well let me see yours it can't be as bad as mine! and he would show me his ID because we are coworkers and why wouldn't he and this would allow me to see his building pass which of course would have his name on it and then i would be able to say well yours is perfectly nice it must be me that's the problem! and then we would have a polite chuckle about it and i would have his name without needing to ask for it and he would be none the wiser and all would be well but then before i could execute this fine plan a little voice in my head went "so this is some light yagami bull shit you are about to pull" which was such a violent reality check it shocked me completely out of my embarrassment and i went "hey im so sorry your name has slipped my mind could you remind me" and he did and it was fine.

that being said I'm not actually always opposed to conflict free fluff I am just opposed to the characters having their claws filed down for it. you can stick them in a coffee shop au it should just still feel like you sat the two worst most insane people on earth in a starbucks

that toby crossover fic is not canon at all obviously but i am smirking bigly about tenna once again being characterized as somebody particularly easy to trick or fool. and this Already lining up with other scenarios that have already solidified this as like, a very very notable character trait for him (have talked about this with more actual examples in my powerlessness post a bit more in depth)

and the way in which this overlaps with everything about his narrative regarding disability too: His central narrative core + driving character motivation surrounding Not wanting to be left behind and thrown out and abandoned by his family for being too old or broken (disabled), his size / the idea of him taking up more space than he "should," him canonically having trauma severe enough to send him into flashbacks where he doesn't know where he is, his position as somebody who cannot leave his location without somebody Doing it for him. he has caregivers. i could go on.

it's not that he's necessarily dumb either. he's pretty clever, actually, considering how quickly he would have had to assemble his boards under short notice. he's really quick to banter with people around him, he knows how structure jokes. but he still appears to struggle without that outside help. he still has blind spots, things he's not privy to, things he doesn't quite understand that people just won't explain to him.

he has to operate under the assumption that people are being honest and nice to him when they tell him things even though they often are not. he's having to assume the people around him that are helping him have his best interest in mind. its so interesting to me. take my hand......... lets observe tenna through a disabled lens................ together...!
