I’ve had my work email DELETED from my phone for 2 years and I’ve never been happier.
I’m a manager with 10 years of audit experience, and NOTHING has been important enough to require me to have my work email or teams active past 4:30 PM or before 9 AM.
Everyone can wait, you’re not needed that urgently. Take your time with your time 💕

This Throwback Thursday takes us to the year 1980 for a discussion about the risks and social cost of new technology. The computers are so big! And noisy! What if I trip on the cords?! This clip comes from a corporate film from Herman Miller, Inc., and is advertising office furniture and storage solutions designed to incorporate computers into the workplace. This item is from the Hagley Library’s Sponsored and industrial motion picture film collection (Acc. 2018.222). To view the full film, along with other digitized films from this collection, visit it’s page in our Digital Archives by clicking here.
I work in a job on a company computer where they have repeatedly told us that they can basically read everything we do, including every keystroke, and obviously can monitor the office Teams even if a member of management isn’t in the teams chat. I don’t really have a problem with this - the position is one that involves a measure of public trust and accountability it’s important.
Besides, if you’re fucking around on your company computer what are you actually thinking.
Still, it means that I need to think through some things. When I’m raging to my work friends about the deplorable state of medical insurance and care for the disabled in this country, I can’t rage quite the way I want to.
I can’t say that I want to take a hammer to all the people who designed the way health insurance wants because I can’t be making threats - even hyperbolic ones - in the monitored chat.
This is fine though! It’s good for me actually. It forces me to be more creative in my rage. I can’t say that want to take a hammer to these people, I have to say that I want them to be attended unceasingly by the tortured sound of 10,000 rubber chickens being squeezed irregularly for ever instant of their life.
Someone at my job keeps changing all of the backgrounds on our work computers to various images from shrek and nobody knows who it is, but also, nobody's really doing anything about it because it's kind of funny
